Yuzuru Hanyu: 2016-17 Season

There is a rumor saying that because of his injury, Yuzuru might not jump quad in the second half for now. So, if I count it right, then a layout like: 4lo, 4t, 4s // 3f, 3lz3t, 3a3t, 3alo3s, 3lo is just half a point less in BV than 4lo 4t 3f // 4s3t, 3a3t 3alo3s 3lo 3lz
(and still 4 points more than his Boston layout)

In full version of Shirota's interview for Memorial magazine, she said that due to injury Yuzuru moved all hard jumps in the first half and choose to do safer and comfortable jumps in the second half. Moving quads in the first half is fan speculation, as we know in Yuzuru's case aka "comfortable and safe jump" can be quad sal or quad loop xDD Yuzu things you know :))) replacing 3lutz with quad sal was pretty safe and comfortable so who knows...:rofl2:

Haha, his definition of comfortable and safer may be a bit different than ours. Thanks for clarifying! Either way I'm anxious to find out about the layout and music!

well, my guess is if he will be doing quads in 2nd half it's never going to be 4T again, I guess it will be 4S

Doing too many 4S in the second half is not much better than doing 4t in the 2nd half. It may lead to to another type of injury, on another part of his body. But since he is already injured in the foot, then it's better to not re-injure the same foot by doing 4t in the 2nd half again. I don't think he needs to try quad in the 2nd half in every competition. He only needs to do quads in the 2nd half at major championships. It takes him two competitions before he lands a quad in the 2nd half (based on the season that just passed). So if he is aiming to land 4s in the 2nd half at WC, he can start moving 4s to the 2nd half at national next season (two competitions before WC, just switch the order of 3F and 4S). If he is aminig to land 4s in the 2nd half at the olympics, then he can start moving 4s to the 2nd half at GPF in the Olympic season (two competitions before the Olympics). He can just do all of his quads in the first half in smaller competitions like senior B, GPs (and GPF).

You do realize it's exhausting to do three quads at the beginning of a very long program without having the possibility to rest in between those? This strategy never seem to work for other skaters who does not srtuggle with astma and are basically a bit stronger than Yuzu, no offence intended.

He can't water down his tech when he is considered the leader of the sport. The most he can do is keep the tech level the same, but never water down his tech. If he was already doing 3 quads in the previous season, he can't do only 2 quads in the following season. That's the expectation people have of a champion.

But it does not mean he has to do what weaker athletes do- place all difficult elements in the first half of the program. The layout should be easy to conquer but harmonious too. How on earth he is going to build his stamina if he will have to move jumps from one part of the program to another in couple of months or even less time? I don't trust this strategy. Plus it makes it obvious that he has gaps others would use to their benefit. I don't care how his layout would look but it has to be harmonious throughout the season otherwise he will not build stamina so that competitions would not suck life out of him.

The difference is only the placement of one quad, i.e. whether the 3rd quad is in the 1st half or the 2nd half. It's only swapping the order of 3rd jump and 4th jump. He would still do 5 jumps in the 2nd half. It's still a 3-5 layout through out the season, not a 5-3 layout in the 1st half of the season and 3-5 layout in the 2nd half of the season.

Lea Johanna Dastich of Germany who won 3rd at junior ladies' skate detroit and trains at TCC with Yuzuru shared something about him
She said : "He is really friendly and nice." and "He is working on 4S, 4T ,4Lo and 4Lz in a harness." also "He is inspiring because he never gives up."
source : this (the 6th picture in the slideshow)

p.s : I am quite surprised he is still working on the 4Lz  Granted, not sure about whether this information from her refers to something more recent or not. Also, from the way she said it, I am not sure if he is doing 4S,T,Lo and Lz in a harness or only the 4Lz in a harness

It's probably just 4lz in a harness.

Anyway from what she has said in that few sentences, it seems he's allowed to do 4t again, so hopefully it means foot is 100% healed now :yahoo:

I kind of wondered if he would try quad Lutz after his foot was injured. If what she says is current then I am speechless. This bunny...
And... ehhh... how about *cough* quad Axel? *cough* I know I am greedy but can I dream?:coffee:
