Mao Asada

Like it very much. Detail oriented... others would skate through the music, she skates to it.

I might be stoned for saying this but I love Mao's new Ex program more than her SP. Wish she could've used that for SP and then the ritual firedance for LP.

No stoning allowed! :p The EX is awesome, and for those of us who love Bach, I agree it would be great as the SP. I like the variety of a different SP and FS. Tough call though, cos Manuel de Falla is pretty wonderful too! It will be fun to see how it "grows" on us as the season progresses.

I love them both. And I agree, her Ex can work very well as an SP, and the SP can work as an LP. They're both very expressive and beautiful. I also can't wait to see her new LP.

I had a weird random dream about Mao....I was watching her on TV in Pyeonchang. She was wearing some sort of black/blue outfit and skating to Tchaikovsky's Piano Concerto No. 1.

I have had many daydreams about Mao skating to Tchaikovsky's Piano Concerto No. 1... I had it choreographed all the way until a dramatic triple axel (i.e. first 15 seconds)

I think this dream may well materialise. Mao will probably have one of her programs choreographed by TAT in her last season, and chances are that TAT will choose her favourite composer for Mao again.

Great photos. ICE shows must have been really fun! :yes2:

Definitely. It's a little bit pity for us who lives Eastern Japan.

(plus except my job, I have to stay home most of the time for taking care of our old pet, it's my pleasure though. but I hope I will manage to go someday.)

Sounds like you need to plan a vacation around a show! And the cool thing is you know you would get to see Mao. Also it was great that some of the cast members skated their new programs.

It's a pity for us who live in Hokkaido, too. No Sapporo stop this year. :(
(and cannot go during winter coz it's the busiest season for us at work)

Arriba627, yes The ICE shows are really fun and the collaborations are usually a must see!

These 10th anniversary shows looked extra fun! Jason Brown's showmanship looked like it added a lot of fun. I had 2 questions - Do they change the cities where they perform every year? (I would assume they do Nagoya every year) It's very early, but has Mao given any indication as to whether the shows will continue next year?

I was getting misty eyed reading how her mom encouraged her to continue THE ICE after its first year. I wondered if in Mao's mind this seems like a tribute to her mom.

Some stops seem to be fixed... like Nagoya and maybe Osaka. But other stops depend each year. I think while Mao is competing there will be The ICE shows. Not sure once she retires.

I don't know if I have posted this before, but here are a lot of fairly high quality photos of Mao from past performances 2008-2010. In order to get the best quality, you can click on the images and they will get bigger or you can right click on the smaller images before, click save as, and then open and the quality comes out just as good.

I can't really decide, so I will make a long list: the 2015 Cup of China LP, the one in her 2015 Grand Prix Final SP, the 2013 4CCs LP, 2014 Worlds SP, the one in the 2008 4CC's LP, 2011 4C and two of my other favorites actually received ur calls so I think that are bogus: the one in the 2013 Grand Prix Final SP after which Shin Amano said he would not have made the call and the 2012 4CC's triple axel which I think should have not received a ur or such an unbelievably low -1.2 GOE. I think Shin Amano may have been head of the tech crew in 4CC's 2012 LP, but I am not sure.

two triple axels: Mao's two triple axles in the Grand Prix Final LP 2008 the first time Mao or any women had ever done two and her 2 triple axels in the Olympics and Worlds 2010 LP. I will go along with the eurosport commentators in Worlds 2010 who repeatedly criticized Mao's tech calls in this event because they both looked good to me.

I wonder when a woman with incredibly flexible and beautiful spirals and spins with professional dancing in her step sequences will ever do 2 triple axels in a performance again, especially with such a wonderful flow, expressive arm movements, erect posture and such picturesque symmetrical air position. I am not going to hold my breath.

The triple axel in Mao's Sochi LP has a really special place for me because it came at the beginning of the best performance I have ever seen and I really loved her staging of the jump with her arms rising like curtains at the beginning of a dramatic play:

Here is another beautiful close-up photo of Mao that I found: http://media.gettyimages.com/photos...er-mao-asada-smiles-as-she-picture-id73631418

Oh it always makes me feel bad. I am sure Mao would win gold medal, because her scores for LP might be higher, if not that awful short program :sad21::sad21::sad21:

Maybe this has already been posted, but since there are quite a few posts about triple axles, this is a good place for it. Mao's best triple axels from 2002-2016. There are two beautiful triple axels I listed above that are not shown here: the one in the Grand Prix Final SP 2013 and the one in the Grand Prix Final SP 2015.

And here is one that shows Mao's triple axel attempts (landed and not landed) including practice from 2005-2010 but not quite all
