Adelina Sotnikova

You'd have to be spectacularly stupid to believe that people won't hate on a skater for the results of a competition.
I really want to disagree but it's true. People will hate people for no reason or with ridiculous ones. Not to say that Adelina has it better because it is terrible that's she's still getting harped on even after 3 freaking years but still... the point stands.

(Ah the darker side of kpop. So much sasaengs and anti-fancafes....😵. If you want an example, search 'Tablo and Stanford degree' on Google. People went on a manhunt and vilified him for years.)

I think there are also some people genuinely loving her skating, who are pissed off by her avoiding the competition.
I'm not saying it's right attitude, but some fans just feel their Adelina should kick butts on Grand Prix ice period.

I agree. Also I don't think she's serious enough to come back strong this season.

It's good she's having fun. But here's the big ?. Is her Sochi gold safe? With the rage WADA and the IOC are going after Russia for the statewide doping scandal do you think they will go back and just take Adelina's great home gold medal and disqulaify all Russian medalists from Sochi? I hope not but I have a funny feeling about this after they banned the entire Russian track team from the Rio olympics. It's not fair to ban athletes like the great Yelena Isinbayaeva who nver failed a drug test and for the best part of her career 7 years she lived and trained in Monaco away from the so called Russian statewide doping system. I know there are problems probably deep problems with doping in Russia but banning clean Russian athletes who don't train or live is Russia and aren't a part of the system seem very unfair to me. I just hope Sotnikova enjoys the rest of her career and lives a great life and gets to keep her gold medal.

Russia is doing okay at the Rio games even with all the unsportmanlike booing of Russian athletes going on. I wonder what Ade thinks of that. I bet it pisses her off.

On a side note I am glad Ade deleted her instgram account. Maybe she got tired of the negative comments from some.

I think Adelina’s OGM is safe, as are other Russian figure skaters’ medals from Sochi, because to strip somebody of a medal it’s necessary to produce proof that would actually stand in court.

That kind of behavior would annoy any civilized person, but I hope it only spurs the athletes on. But do you mean that some people actually go to the social media accounts of the 2014 OG medalists with the express purpose of writing something rude?

well Adelina is just enjoying now, but I don't think she's coming back competitively imo.

Honestly, I'm quite disappointed by her not taking the next season seriously. Girl, it's your chance to strike back and show what you got. But....:ohwell:....that's life. It's her decision.
I do wish for her to train in another environment. I don't really care if she stays Buyanova. I mean they do have a good relationship, although I wish Elena pushes her more. But I digress. Maybe do like an out-of-country/club training season just by herself? Kind of like what Jason has done. The main problem would be where would she train.

Yea it's a little disappointing specially since after sochi when everyone was doubting the results I remember her saying something along the lines of, I want all the gold now, or something along those line. Meaning she had all the intentions to prove people wrong but then I feel like now she's giving up.

Will Ade take part in test skates? I sooo wish to see her new programs - the way she talked about them got me all pumped! :yahoo:

I think it is a requirement that she does. We already seen her SP just waiting to see what it looks like with the flip and a few more months of practice under her belt.

But who knows where her motivations are and when we will see her compete again :(

Adelina will skip the ISU Grand Prix of Figure Skating for two years in a row and I wonder if she's still recovering from her leg injury. Probably she'll only participate in minor competitions in Russia and Eastern Europe in this season but I expect her to compete at the Russian Figure Skating Championships.

It didn't help when all last season people are like, "she really wants to compete, really." And then she gives interviews that make you believe she wants to compete. So for her to choose show skating over the GP :palmf: I'm so disappointed but its her decision.

Yea I agree but honestly I think she knows her skating career is close to over so she's just starting to move on. It's a little sad because I feel like she had so much potential but ohh well.

I hope you are right that Adelina's gold medal is safe. But I have my doubts. In fact on a Russian sports paper headline today in english it said Russia's 2008 4 x 100 olympic women's gold medal relay team was having their medals stripped. Seeing that shocked me. That was 8 years ago are the urine samples still good?

The IOC has a major desire to strip and taint Russian sports as much as possible. I also hope Yelena Isinbayaeva's 2 olympic pole vaulting gold medals are safe. But I have my doubts even though she lived and trained outside of Russia for the best years of her career. The Russian's need to have their lawyers ready because so much more is coming at Russian sports to discredit it's great history and take as many medals as possible. It's crazy.

Russia is having a good Rio olympics to this point with 38 medals. Not bad for a crippled team and mind set. I have no dount there was some cheating going on but how do you prove it to the point of stripping medals and changing record books years after?

Yes Spira; was on Yulia Efimova's instagram and some people wrote vile things about her. Not exaxctly in the olympic spirit is it? But when some of Yulia's competitors treated her badly and spoke badly of her some people listened and attacked her to like Adelina has had to put up with. It's awful.

I don't mean to start an argument about this statement, especially not here, in a fan fest threat but this sentence is just as ridiculous as saying that all russian athletes dope.

I do hope she considers going for the 2022 Olympics. She is still quite young so she could see that as a possibility.

LOL I need her to watch Mao and Ashley's perseverance and confidence in their selves.

Whatever you wrote you would like to see that!!:ohwell:

Could you take this elsewhere. I came here to read news about Adelina, not the Rio Olympics, Efimova, the IOC or Russian athletics. You want to talk about these issues, go post in the relevant threads, not here.
