Elena Ilinykh & Ruslan Zhiganshin

Yaaaay! I'm already going to TEB but maybe I'll fit in a Nebelhorn trip too, I love Obersdorf anyway...

Man, I can't believe I will be in Canada the one time Ruslena are in Germany! Grr, I have rotten luck!

Lol. Nearly half of the ice dance entries are coached by Shpilband. It's a really tough line up, but the monitoring must be gone well, if the Russian Fed has given them a Challenger that is only 2 weeks after test skates.

That's quite a good field in Germany!

And Nebelhorn is always a good place to get some serious feedback. And I'm happy they are doing a Challenger, especially this one. Ranking points, important feedback, and experience before the GP season start. And it's not based in Russia which makes the feedback even more important.

Good start of the season everyone!:yahoo:

I'm a bit nervous about the super competitive line-up at the Nebelhorn Trophy - I thought they'd be taking their competitors on one at a time - but can't wait to see them on the ice again.

I don't think any upcoming pair has that luxury. They have to jump in the deep end with everyone else; it'll only work to their benefit I believe.

Well, I think they got lucky with their GP line-ups this season, and with B competitions also some have more competitive line-ups than others.

I am excited that they are going to Nebelhorn! I am glad that they will get some solid international feedback. And ya know- ranking points:)

I think they should at least be competitive with Gilles/Poirier and I'm curious to see if they can get close to Cappellini/Lanotte. The scoring at the Challengers is usually more generous, but in the past Nebelhorn and Finlandia had stricter judges, so Elena and Ruslan should get realistic feedback where they stand.

And they will be doing the Challenger right after the test skates, well 12 days later. They are probably going to stay in Moscow for a while, maybe with their second coaches ( Kustarova I mean), or Bourzat when he finishes with Carreira/Ponomarenko who will be in Saransk for the JGP.
The season is really on.
But I have to confess that I find these test skates useless, the open test skates. It's more or less a way for the federation to sell tickets but it messes up everybody's preparation. The way the U.S. is doing Champs Camp is far better, and programs are not exposed so early on.

I think it`s not such a big issue for Elena and Ruslan since they had so much time to prepare. For us fans it`s great to see the programs so early on, but it disturbs the skater`s training schedule, that`s for sure.

I dont think it is that disturbing, as skaters already know the test skates will happen and can ajust their schedule well.

Yes , more or less it's a necessary evil:laugh:

I disagree, politely of course. Not necessarily with the test skates themselves, but the fact that they are open. Champs camp would never allow their skates to be open to the public. The skaters have enough pressure to perform for their respective federations, let alone the public. Especially if adjustments have to be made. Besides after last season, I want credible international feedback, not the pissing popularity contest in Russia. I think I/Z are Russia's dance team with the most talent and potential. They aren't limited the way that other teams are. Besides Tarasova just visited Novi, I mean what other opinion do they need. I wish they would let them get on with the season. Igor likes his skaters to peak at a certain time. Why bother with all this extra travel.

There was speculation that since Tarasova had already seen both teams, they would skip test skates. I guess, the open test skates are again mandatory like it was last year. I remember that in the 2014/15 it was up to the skaters if they wanted to participate at the open test skate. Anyway, it`s good that they are going to Nebelhorn, Chock/Bates are already going for the third year in the row. The competition will give Elena and Ruslan the right feel where they stand compared to teams like Chock/Bates and Gilles/Poirier. Watching the first JGP of the season in France, it`s apparent that Shpilband teams are ready with level 3/4 rather early in the season. In that regard, I`m not worried, now I`m just curious how the choreo will look like.
