Yuzuru Hanyu: 2016-17 Season

I just thought of something: this season Yuzuru is going to take part in: AC, SC, NHK, GPF (assuming), Japanese Nationals, 4CC, WC, WTT... Holy crap. Knowing his track record, I don't know how he's planning to peak at WC. Just hoping he and Orser are treating this as a training to learn how to get him peak at the right time. :hopelessness:

Well, he can take it easy for the challenger and GP series (this is if he decides to go to AC eventually)? Actually Javier has the same amount of competitions as Yuzuru last year, but he managed to peak at Worlds. I don't think having a lot of competition necessarily meant you are going to peak early. Not sure how they want to change things, but it seems their team is extra careful this season.

JSF requires the gold medalist from nationals next year to attend Asian Winter Games instead of 4CC. Yuzu clearly wants to go to 4CC, the test event for 2018 Olympics, I wonder if there's any way out of this~~maybe skip nationals?

That's a conundrum... Could he end up doing both? :hopelessness: Skipping Nationals would be a good way out but I wonder if Yuzuru would be willing to sacrifice his possible fifth national champion title. The unbroken chain of national victories certainly has its charm. However, it would be a good way to have a rest between the GPF and 4CC and gain a second wind for the later part of the season.

4CC is Feb 15-19, 2017. Asian Winter Games is Feb 19-26, 2017. They are way too close to each other.

I'm still waiting for the Bathclin/Lotte combi commercial where they make him bathe in chocolate milk Cleopatra style but the risk of him drinking the tub empty before they can finish the shooting is probably too high

I remembered that we've had this discussion before, so I dug up these posts:

This article says that Ms. Kobayashi said the skaters' intentions will also be considered. Hopefully the top finishers at Nationals will be able to choose which competition they'd like to skate at. According to another article, they're sending 2 men and 2 ladies to Asian Winter Games.

kobayashi confirmed the assignment will be based on skaters' willingness as well. I think there is nothing to worry about.

That was the last I've heard about it has that changed and they will now be forced to go?

Not allowing their best hopes for more Olympic medals to go to the test event sounds like a really good strategy to shoot themselves in the foot. How about forcing their best skaters to take up pole vaulting, just to make sure at least one of them breaks their neck before the Olympics
