Elena Ilinykh & Ruslan Zhiganshin

Me too. I`m a little bit meh about them choosing Sing,Sing,Sing. It`s very overused and Bobrova/Soloviev are also using it, but Elena and Ruslan showed with Carmen that they can take an overused piece and give it a fresh look. Besides, I`m excited that they took Swing, I think it`s going to be a great style for them. :)

I don't mind using popular pieces but I don't like the idea of hearing one and the same song one after another. But IZ can really own a popular piece and I am happy it is not a slow one and we dont know the cuts so I will just patiently wait and see what will they will show us. But the blues part is killing so far. Go Ruslena.

I agree and I hope that both songs are without lyrics. "Sing, Sing, Sing" can be a great choice (not for Yan Han). I think they can pull it off.

They have withdrawn from the open skates, according to the fsrussia site.

This is devastating for me. I really hope they are well.
Is this the reason why they showed part of their short dance last night , because they knew they wont be able to skate?
Why they have to travel and withdraw if someone have news on their health please share.

I was so happy in the morning now... :(

3 couples, including I/Z, who attended the closed skates will not take part in the open skates for the public. The official line given for all three is due to "health". But at this point I would not worry too much. The most important part of the test skates, the closed sessions, are over. All the assessments by the Federation specialists have been done.

They didn't do the open skate in 2014 either, just the closed ones. It could be a little niggle, or they have changes to make and don't want to show the programs just yet. Disappointing, but it's only 2 weeks to Nebelhorn.

If they show up at Nebelhorn ;)
I'm betting we don't see them until Skate America

I think it would be good for them to do Nebelhorn. It gives them world ranking points and they haven`t competed since December. Besides, Igor will be with other 4 teams at Nebelhorn anyway. I hope this was just a strategic decision to get back earlier to the States.

Why? Igor has clearly picked Nebelhorn as the kick off for his senior teams. They'll have been working to that schedule for months. I only expect to not see ruslena there if they have a serious injury.

They have no serious injury and there is no info about Nebelhorn yet, but we need to take into consideration that the fed insisting they should do the test skates, forcing them basically to go there, messes up a 3 week preparataion period for any event that Novi follows. So it's whether you want to be at top shape and impress or just want to compete and get over with it. I still remember how people thought some others are this wow team just because they showed up prepared in SA last season.Impressions are important. But I guess we wait and see. I'm glad Kustarova was with them, she's a master in pattern and basic technical stuff.
Of course a full week they lost cause of the test skates in Novi doesn't equal two 45 minute sessions in Sochi. I find it funny that the russian fed does the test skates when competitions are already on.

I completely agree. Tarasova was at Novi weeks ago. That should be enough. I never support a loss of training time mixed in with unnecessary travel. Such is life though.

I agree, alithia. The US and Canada have their test skates earlier, before all the Challengers start. I remember that the Russian test skates in 2014 were also end of August, why they decided to hold them this late these last 2 years, I don`t understand. I guess, the good part is that they can spend now some time with family and friends and work a little bit with Kustarova, as long as she doesn`t touch the choreo.

I am worried. Neighter reason sounds good to me. Either they have injury or something for correction which sounds ridiculous. The best is to have flu. Because not showing us their dances for no good reason is disrespectful to their fans and they are not such people. it will be nice to know the real reason and stop worring. I am really gloomy right now

I disagree. It's not disrespectful to their fans, this is their career not ours. They are doing what's best for them as a team, which will translate into their season. As much as people want to see them- think of the travel involved and loss of ice time because of this. I'm not going to cry over a test skate. I'd rather them continue to prepare.

But they have already traveled and skated so if they are in shape I don't see a reason they don't show it to their fans how this will influence their skating time. Anyway I am worried and wonna know if they are ok.

Disrespectful is to call people we like disrespectful just because they have a cold or sth.
And I didn't talk about skating time, I talked about preparation for Nebelhorn and skating time, and I think I was very clear.

I'm not gonna go on in a thread that is a fan thread but still calls people that did nothing wrong disrespectful.

Maybe Igor doesn't want them to skate because he can't be there with them? And I guess they must be tired at least.

Like others, I don't see how this is disrespectful. I am confident that Ruslena do appreciate their fans support but at the end of the day they don't skate for us, and they shouldn't. The most important thing is their health, both physical and mental, and that they themselves are comfortable with what they are doing. I'm as disappointed as the next person that they won't be there (in fact I'd bet I'm considerably more disappointed than most people) but it's not really any of my business at the end of the day whether they participate here and why they do or don't.

The first two season Elena and Ruslan have been very generous with the info they shared with us fans. They released a lot of vids and pics while working with Najarro or Arapov. I saw a change this off-season, they haven`t revealed anything about their programs, Elena even stated out right that they didn`t want to give anything away about their programs. I think they have to do what is best for them and their career and if that means to be more closed off to what they share, I`m fine with it.

Maybe they just need to be a little "selfish" right now and not go to the open test skates in order to be prepared for Nebelhorn. The vid they released was from Novi, so maybe they never intended to participate at the open test skate.
