Jason Brown

I may be miss-remembering, but I think he has had issue with the 3Lo before. Maybe not pops to double, but I think it has often been his weak link/weakest element. I know it was the only element to get negative GOE at WTT in 2015 for instance.

Oh. Maybe you're right. I never noticed. Here. Look at these cute pictures!

@ice coverage, I haven't seenwhat the plaque says, but in the award ceremony she simply states it's awarded for the best performance:

Where the truth lies I don't know, but that's what I was going by.

What my ears heard -- and still hear -- the announcer saying: " ... The prize is awarded for the best components ..." (emphasis added).
I had watched the presentation live, and then right afterward, re-wound to make sure I heard correctly.
Just now, I went back to re-listen yet again.

The word "Components" is clearly visible on Mirai's plaque. I had posted the link in the Lombardia thread and will re-post here:
Excerpt of what Tom Z wrote: "So proud that Mirai won the award for premio components in honor of the late Anna Grandolfi ..."

Not trying to be belligerent about this lovely prize that Jason won .
But while some of you enjoy the minutiae of projecting future scores for Jason (and I have absolutely no problem with that), my brain gravitates toward establishing an accurate understanding of what the prize is for.
If/if/if next year, Skater X's PCS is 0.01 higher than Jason's and Skater X receives the Grandolfi prize, would not surprise me if some people in this thread will be wondering whether Jason in fact deserved the prize more than X. (Based on what I have heard/seen this year, my opinion [only an opinion] would be that the prize automatically goes to the skater with higher PCS.)

I see. Well I went back and listened and you are in fact correct that she she uses the word components, and not performance; not sure how I misheard it. However, leaving aside the question of whether it refers to FS components only, they're pretty clearly seeking to recognize something other than technical difficulty. I would suggest that it's artistry / performance quality, and I don't really see that it makes a difference whether or not they use components as a proxy for that.

Agree that the big dichotomy is technical elements/proficiency vs. components/performance.

And again, I am not complaining that Jason got a lovely prize that perhaps is based only on PCS.
That said, I tend to like precision, and to me, there could be a difference btwn a prize for PCS vs. a prize for performance. Not necessarily a big difference, but a difference.
In the hypothetical future scenario I gave above, I daresay that some of us might believe that Jason gave a better performance even if his PCS were not quite as high as someone else's.

Will leave it there. Not worth belaboring this topic further.

Wow, an entire Radiohead primer! Thx for the info, @MrsP and Stitch, I even listened to some of the tunes. Not necessarily my thing, but I will defer to those who know better about their quality. And I'm not saying it's *good* that I don't know modern pop stuff, it just is.

One last :otopic: point: Giorgio Moroder is cool, but he is to EW&F like Nathan Chen is to Jason: not doing the same thing at all.

OK, Jason is going to cross more time zones than I just did *and* skate in another comp:hap10: oh to be young and athletic!

Jason updated the blog! His final post (I presume) is about how his family got lost getting to Lake Como.

I always tell myself that life is about the journey and not the destination, but in that day, I really understood it. I could have complained that I made a mistake for sitting in a car for almost three hours when I had practice that night and was competing my long program the next day...I could have let myself get more and more frustrated when the GPS would add another 25 miles every time we missed an exit and we had to drive another 12.5 miles before we could make a U-turn...I could have focused on all the things that went wrong on our way to the lake...but I forced myself to let go of those fears and allowed myself to enjoy and love every moment that I spent with my family.

Well, it turn out pretty well for him in the end! Mindset makes a difference. :)

Saw this tweet earlier, which IceCoverage posted in the Lombardia thread, but I think deserves repeating here:

Now that I've seen Jason try his Japanese with the fan club, I can just see him yelling Uno-kun to get Shoma's attention to return his costume jacket  I will not share whether I think Shoma is best served by that jacket.;)

So I'm curious. Why would Jason say Uno-kun instead of Shoma-kun? I'm not super familiar with Japanese honorifics, but is there a formality in using the last name instead of the first?

So I read Damien Dodge's blog on ice-dance.com and I howled at this mention of Jason:
http://www.ice-dance.com/site/2016-lombardia-trophy-blog-3/

I got to sleep in, aside from being woken up by Jason straightening his hair. He had an early practice and I woke up thinking there was a fire because of the smell, and sound, of his hair burning.

Wow. That must've been some high-temp styling, not surprising given his curly hair.

Tarah Kayne's makeup YouTube channel has a vid of Jason prepping his hair, and yes, he used the straightening iron and you can see the steam rising. He also talked about burning himself on the iron once. Too much pain not any gain for this curly gal, but I'm not skating:laugh: On my iPad, can't link.

I also would like to know why Uno kun rather than Shoma kun?

:hijacked: Speaking of which, I'm so excited that Tarah is coming to Finlandia Trophy! As I'm such a huge fan of her makeup tutorial videos, I'm thinking about giving her some Finnish makeup as a present. I won't toss it on the ice because I'm too lazy to get up from my seat/I'm usually holding a pint of beer and it's just not convenient, but I might send it to her hotel room :)

I don't know about you but I find the story of this particular makeup brand's international marketing history fascinating. The brand wanted to break into the UK market in the late 90s/early 2000s (when I lived in the UK), but even though it's a quality brand and they used fancy ingredients and the prices were very reasonable, people just wouldn't buy it. They looked into the matter and it turned out that the prices were too low - nobody wanted mid-price cosmetics at Harrods or Selfridges. They bumped up the price by something like 70% and the brand became quite successful (I don't know if it still is).

You're not stacking up on some Fazer to give to the skaters? I'm disappointed... ;)

I always imagine them being on a strict diet, that's why I never even thought of it

I am sure they are, but they all seem to respond very well to food as well. Gracie's excitement over the Reece's Pieces is a great example.

Jason refused to even pick a single favorite food with his interview with Grant... he mentioned Banana Bread...not sure the type of food Fazer has, but maybe that is a place to start. He also I think liked pizza... but not sure how practical that is.

It's extremely delicious Finnish chocolate http://www.sinikankauppa.com/wp-content/uploads/2012/04/slider-12-.jpg
