State of U.S. Ladies' skating 2016-17

Is this the US Classic or US International Classic, because I don't see Kaitlyn's name for the ladder. Maybe she is not old enough.

US International Classic was only Seniors. US Challenge Skate is what apgold was really referring to, where Novice and Junior US Skaters could compete. It took place at the same place/time as the International Classic.

I see, thanks. I hope someone posts videos of the novice and junior US skaters :)

Girls this age are perfectionist and avoid posting anything that shows them making major errors like falls even if they win. Kaitlyn's mom did post Kaitlyn's sectional competition where she fell. But sometimes a loss that close can sting, so she might not let her. Keep your fingers crossed that a fan post videos of the podium ladies.

Polina was clean(ish). It was Ashley who popped.

Polina underrotated a 3Lo.

I did not like her GWTW program either and wish it was more like Alain Chartrand's GWTW program. So I will say that Polina lost that competition, Gracie did not win it.

But Gracie did win it, she needed to come out and do her long program better than she has ever done any program before to win and she did that. I was completely convinced I was getting ready to watch a meltdown, it was quite amazing that she not only kept a clean performance but she hit every piece of it. She definitely out skated everyone on that day.

Is she really that slow? I mean come on, the girl's got long legs and is noticeably taller than everyone else. I've only seen her on tv. She cannot be slower than Evgenia M. coz she looks really slow on tv, you want to help push her out there.

She is the same height as Gracie, she just had longer limbs.

She is slower, that was one thing people in the crowd were saying at nationals, that Polina is noticably slower in person as well as on tv.

I see, thanks. Crossing my fingers. I looked at the results and Kaitlyn placed 2nd overall and STarr Andrews got 1st place. Good for Kaitlyn. Starr Andrews is 15 already, I think they should give her a jgp assignment. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=dcH6LaZ8JuY

Ok, I will agree with you she skated her best lp that night :)

alright then...maybe if she picks up her speed, change her hairstyle and costumes, have better choreography, then she'll move a notch up.

Even hairstyle and costumes would make a big difference. I mean, that GwtW white dress =/ Compare that with Gracie and Ashley, for example.

Does anyone have videos of the junior ladies from the US Classic? I think all of the entries were from the US, but Starr Andrews, Kaitlyn Nguyen and Alexia Paganini were on the podium in that order. I saw a video of Starr at the Glacier Falls competition skating to the Pink Panther and she looked great. She’s now 15 (remember when she did “Whip my Hair” a few years ago?). I wonder when Starr will go senior, she’s sure to make a splash.

For those who subscribe to Ice network, the U.S. Challenge Skate is available there. For others, a skater or proud parent may post videos on YT in the future.

It kinda bugs me, because american ladies are in general pretty well dressed and have highest rate of amazing dressed / skater. Like, dunno, go to the same place where Ashley got her Moulin Rouge dresses and get one =(

I think Jan Longmire designs for Ashley. Polina needs to go to a professional designer instead of whoever she's using now. Expensive but clothes help you make a good impression.

Edit: autocorrect error

Yay. It's awesome to see her growth since the Whip My Hair days.

It's also an awesome reminder that sometimes it is ok to let kids be themselves and not make them skate to classical music.

She has personality on ice, she can perform and she looks like she loves every second of it... i wonder how much that had been true if she had been having serious programs handed to her for years. I love seeing that she was able to be a kid and be herself, but still progress like as normal skater and still get rewarded for it. I like seeing it be more about working hard and sticking with it, then having the right strategy and packaging.

Oh yeah definitely. I meant more growth as in skating skills, difficult jumps, etc. Doing fun programs definitely fostered her personality.

What is happening with Tessa Hong. She looked really great at Broadmoor earlier this year. I have heard nothing since. Why doesn't she have a JGP assignment? Her performance at Broadmoor was in my opinion far superior to those of the skaters we have sent.

Does she really not have a JGP assignment? That's a huge disappointment. She's young and talented enough that she deserves all the competitive experience she can get, as long as she's healthy.

Tessa has osgood Schlatter disease. She also broke her ankle last year. Ii haven't heard anything about her competing since mid summer. I wish she was on social media so I could confirm if something is wrong or not.

Tessa Hong now is assigned to JGP Estonia :).
