My feeble attempt at View of Silence for piano solo. https://www.dropbox.com/s/jzfx07tcggvu959/viewofsilence_sept2016.m4a?dl=0

It's not without mistakes, especially the latter half, which is ridiculously difficult in the right hand, but I'm hoping I can maybe perfect it over the course of this figure skating season. Oh, and I need to get me an automatic sheet music page-turning device, lol.

transcription by pseudo. I'm not aware of any official piano-solo version, it's not in any of the eight Hisaishi piano albums I own. I used to "know" pseudo on-line (been a video game music and anime music fan for about twenty years, and in those circles he was/is famous for piano transcriptions of that kind of music), so it's kind of a thrill for me to finally have reached a level of piano playing where I can actually sort of play this, and combine it with my other hobby, figure skating watching.

And yes, I'm also working on Asian Dream Song (the complete version).

edit: oh, what the heck. Posting this here, too. Don't expect a concert performance, lol! But for those who like that sort of thing:

This is only the third time I played it (well, this version, I used to have a much easier transcription, but I threw it away when I got the official piano sheet music album), and there's some parts in there which I'm not gonna be able to play just like that without a fair bit of decent practice, but I'm sharing it here, anyway, not in the least so that I'll have a point of reference for myself, so that I can look back at September 2016 when Yuzuru Hanyu wins that Gold medal in Helsinki, and I'll be able to notice that I have actual progress with both piano pieces by then.

wow you are so good! It would take me maybe a whole month to play it this good

Thanks, and hey, that doesn't sound too bad, either! :agree:

I've been playing for over 28 years (and have always had private lessons), so technically, there's nothing in there I cannot play. But sight-reading only goes so far. At some point I do need to sit down and actually practice the few parts that I cannot immediately play. There's a part in Asian Dream Song where the right hand just goes veeeery fast, and I completely futzed through that bit in the recording.

I lied, in View of Silence, in that transcription, there is actually a small part in the right hand I cannot ever play. One or two chords are too big for my hands, and they're never gonna grow any bigger anymore, so I'd need to break the chords.

that's really cool! I've been playing for about 5-6 years but I'm really bad at reading the sheet while playing at the same time haha that's why I would need way more time :)

Now that really does just come with the territory. It's probably the same with figure skating (and most anything else); just reading sheet music and more sheet music and more sheet music makes it go easier.

So there's my goal for this year; as Yuzuru becomes better and better with his two programs, I can hopefully make progress with these pieces and do at least his wonderful free skate program (yes, I know they'll both be amazing and incredibly wonderful) honor.

That's really nice, I'll try to learn the piece for this season too

Only 10 more days until AC! :yahoo: Juniors will surely go first, but we should be able to watch his practice by then (if SC is nice to us all and streams the whole thing on DM again). Does anyone know when the senior men are scheduled to compete?

Here is the schedule. Senior men SP is 7.30 - 9.40 PM ET on Friday, September 30. FS runs 7.40 - 10.30 PM ET on Saturday, October 1.

Apparently Skate Canada will be live streaming online, but Fuji TV will be live streaming in Japan. So perhaps the Dailymotion live stream may be blocked in Japan. Japanese fans on Twitter were disappointed.

So at least the competition will be live-streamed right? :)
(Praying that the practice will be live-streamed too)

Is fuji tv only a regional channel? If not, wouldn't it be great for the Japanese Fans to have it streamed on tv instead

It's a national broadcaster. Actually, Daisuke Takahashi is working for them this season and he'll be doing interviews according to IFS. The issue the fans were having though is that Fuji TV will likely not stream practices. Skate Canada should be streaming practices. They've done that for most of their events last season.

Ah, I see. Thanks Mango! Maybe SC will only block the live-stream during competition and not practice? I don't know, hopefully so

Last year AC livestream was great, even better for me than SC livestream. Hopefully both will be as good as last year's AC :cheer:. Hope the livestream won't crash due to overloading as this is the first time we will see the full programs, music cut and costumes :hap93:

By the way, I often wonder whether Yuzu test out skating in his costumes . As I never see he does this during practices while other skaters sometime practices in their costumes.

Of course he does. It's just that competition practice is a bit too late to try a costume because there's barely any time to fix anything before the actual competition except small mulfanction like broken zipper or something like that. And I love when he does practices in his sports gear, don't we all love that?;)

From personal experience, I think this is just personal preferences. Some needs to do rehearsal with their costume to feel more confident, comfortable and secure (could be a superstitious thing too), some just doesn't really like having sweaty costumes when they have to perform and prefer to wear their costume fresh (because if they wear it during practice, there will be no time to do the laundry lol).

GP series is aired by Asahi TV not Fuji TV and they haven't announced the broadcast schedule.

Fuji TV is not national broadcaster. It is NHK that the japan national broadcaster.
Fuji only broadcast JPN,4CC and worlds.
NHK is broadcasted by NHK TV
Skate Canada and GPF are aired by Asahi TV.
Therefore, you may not see Takahashi interview any skater before JPN (maybe except Shoma Uno)
Japan tv broadcast normally will not air the whole practice session but they will have clips for JP skaters in their news.

I think she is talking about Skate Canada Autumn Classic, the challenger series, not Skate Canada the GP series :)

oh sorry, but same logical.
Fuji will not broadcast SCAC.
According to the last year's experience, none of JP TV station will live broadcast SCAC but they will send the tv crew team to film some clips and air in their news.
IIRC, there are at least 4 TV broadcast the clips in the morning and evening news.
