Yuzuru Hanyu: 2016-17 Season

Ok, so one thing I've noticed at Skate America that I didn't pay attention at previous competitions was that Shoma was using a colar similar to Yuzuru's one with those magnetic stones that seems to be his lucky charm of some sort. I looked up to check and he also used it at Lombardia Trophy and Japan Open; but he wasn't using it last season. I think it's curious that it's actually very similar to Yuzuru's shape wise. And he was using these Phiten necklaces this summer too but that model that Sota also has. :luv17:

Oh yes! I noticed that too and I immediately thought of Yuzu

Kind of interesting today... on the cbc skate america broadcast they were talking about the evolution of the quad jumps and both Carol lane and Kurt Browning said they believed that of the jumpers right now, Yuzu would be the one most able to do the 4 axel. Kurt said because of height and rotation needed, it would be Yuzu. Nice vote of confidence there for him.

Edit to add:watched it in west time zone and kurt said you have to look at air time and air time before and after rotation, the quality of the triple, therefore Hanyu.

He won't try 4A for the Olympic. You don't have to worry about that. He knows it's dangerous. Maybe he will try it after Olympic just for ice shows.

I hope he continues competing - after winning the 2018 Olympics - at least another year, through Japan Worlds, just to please himself & his fans & maybe to get some more records, including 1st 4A. I agree with Kurt that Yuzuru is the one who would be able to land it, considering the quality & ease of his 3A.

Can't wait until Thursday!:yahoo:

I was trying to fill in the predictions for the SC and then wanted to fill in Yuzuru as first, because I truly do believe he can win this. And then went, but what if I jinx him? Better not. But I believe it, and I'm a fan ... but what if I jinx him for more than just this one ... what if I don't, and he wins, and that's bad luck ... ah darn it, I'm a big fan and proud of it, first it is ...

I swear I'm otherwise a rational adult  :palmf:

Hopefully his stamina improved enough for Skate Canada.
I am not worried about jumps. It seems he is not struggling with them at all judging by AC practices ( well, maybe 3lz sometimes :laugh2:)
But if he is stronger already than AC I think he will deliver well

It's the same dilema I'm having right now with SC's prediction games. And though I passed my list with Yuzuru winning, I'm still considering placing him behind Chan. Scared to jinx too... :dev2:

Well I keep my predictions low because he has never won his first Gp of the season lol

I don't believe in jinxing. If he is in shape he will deliver. If not then not ;)

Me sad, am going through my Eurosport 2 HD TV recordings of Shoma, admiring everything in awesome high quality, but okay, especially him and his incredibly gorgeous blingy-bling costumes... and then I realized there won't be any live TV on Eurosport Holland of the Skate Canada men's events (because, like ice dance, they're in the dead of night). So unless they air a recap program with both SP and FS on Monday, no admiring Yuzu's pretty costumes from way up close on telly.... :sad21: :sad4: On-line vids are good and all, but nothing beats big screen live television in HD. ;-)

for sure they will show mens programs between live coverage

He was in ok shape at last season SC and still messed up.

I honestly have no idea what he's going to do for the FS because it does require a lot from him but even at the AC I had the feeling that the SP was not an issue. The new quad is not exactly new, apart from the competitions, so I think that helps a lot, and with improved stamina I do believe that we might see a very decent SP in Canada. The rest, up in the air. But then it's so difficult that with a good SP he might pull it off because it's season's start for everyone.

I am now having a mixed feeling towards SC. Excited to see how Yuzu will perform, and quite calm for the competition itself. I mean, I was there at last year's SC to see he bombed the sp and fought back on the lp; and I was at this year's worlds to see he perfected the sp, while bombed at lp. After all those "roller coaster" that I have been gone through, I do feel that I am mentally stronger than ever:party2:
