Elena Radionova

As Piona posted,

I cannot remember it clearly, but last season, there was a discussion that Lena was never in the limelight. As Vasileva (why is it Vlasova in google translate?) said, "it's more good than bad" ~ And I am glad how Lena fought for what she had achieved :)

It is Vlasova. Lyudmila Vlasova is the choreographer/trainer who works with Lena.

Perhaps one of the Russian speakers could translate what she said about Lena?
Here's the original interview:
http://rsport.ru/figure_skating/20161004/1104587375.html

I don't speak Russian, but reading GoogleTranslate, my impression was not that Lena was being forgotten, but that Lena keeps forgetting to do the arm movements they did in practice. She forgets to train her arms. And then Vlasova says that Lena was struggling with puberty, so they didn't push her to work on these things.

At least that was my impression, but I could be totally wrong. From what Vlasova says, it sounds like Lena only has done about 30% of what they want her to do with her arms at the competitions.

I hope that is right, because that is definitely my #1 complaint about Lena's skating! I'm glad that they're aware of it, even if they haven't been able to force Lena to work on her arms because she's been so busy working on other stuff (probably her jumps and skating skills).

Vlasova also was asked about Carolina Kostner and she said something like, "Radionova is more expressive, Costner is more romantic," which I can agree with. :agree:

She also said something about Lena improvising (?) but I couldn't really understand the GoogleTranslate...

@ Seruleane - Vlasova has worked with a ton of Russian ice dancers in the past and is currently working with Cappellini/Lanotte. She also works with Bazarova/Deputat, but Lena is the only singles skater she is working with.

For me, her life history was also fascinating to read because I'm a huge ballet fan too. Her second husband, Alexander Godunov, was also a ballet dancer and defected to the US in 1979, basically leaving her behind. I didn't realize that he danced here at ABT for awhile was Baryshnikov was the head of the company...whoa!

Going back to the article Tyranid translated (thanks!!!)--I'm glad to hear that Inna is pleased with how Lena is training, BUT it doesn't sound that good. If "some things are working, and some things are not" in practice like she said, I think Lena can kind of fight through her programs like she did last year, but for her to make top 3 at Worlds, I think she really needs to be 100% solid and smooth on her jumps. And in that case, I'd expect her to be nailing EVERYTHING in practice...

But of course, I am totally hoping that Lena will prove me wrong and come out better than ever with amazing programs!

Hmm, Lena's pretty dressed up! If I had to guess, maybe it was Sergei's birthday party??

She also said something about Lena improvising (?) but I couldn't really understand the GoogleTranslate...
Does Elena improvise more or follow the set choreography?

She improvises. Yet, remembering myself, I also was very emotional. If not for my teachers, big thanks to them, I would definitely overimprovise. Lena, besides her intuitive artistry also knows how to listen..

...

Sorry guys for not translating this yesterday; I had the time. Btw the entire article is HUGE and also very well and stylishly formatted. Good job R-Sport!

Thanks for the translation, Tyranid!! :thank:

When you have some more time, could you please translate what else she said about Lena?

New Lena fan vid! :agree:

So Lena posted this photo yesterday, in which she is looking very model-like:

...but I think it's from the same time as this photo, from Monday night:

I wonder if she was there with Ksenia--or maybe they were at the same party? Same location...

Interesting! :)

there's a fitness centre in the hotel - really good one. That might be it?

The picture you are reffering to is not "very model-like" but more like an attention-whoring it-girl, who outclasses Paris Hilton or Kim Kardashian. And if you look at her latest posts, they are more and more about lifestyle, than about her "profession". Maybe the world of glamor infected her, and I am a bit worried, that this won't end well.
(Just count the days between the day when she "missed" her FP cause of "illness" and the day when the 1st pic from Monaco appeared.)
... aaaaaand dont forget when she was asked by some guy on VK if she was drining again, because she commented so many bullsh!t on VK.
I don't really know, but if this is the 2nd strike of her puberty (right after her growing problems) you can say goodbye to her pretty soon. A skating career of a lady in Russia can be over very fast. There is no time for misssteps and mistakes ...

@ piona, you are definitely entitled to express your own opinion, but if you feel so very negatively about Lena (especially the other stuff you wrote, which I'm totally ignoring), perhaps you should write it somewhere else, and NOT in Lena's fan fest... :frown: Thanks!

On to happier topics!!
Max talked a little bit about Lena in his recent interview:

http://fsrussia.ru/intervyu/2457-ma...j-programme-net-politicheskogo-podteksta.html
From GoogleTranslate:
Q: You train in a group with Sergei Voronov, who said a lot of good words about you. What do you think about your work together?

A: The fact that we train together - very cool. When this level of athlete rides with you, it's cool sparring. Sergei does many run-throughs of the program for the most part, and in training we even arrange the competition, to see who is better. As a result, without noticing, we can skate program for training a few times and not die. Although tired, but you do. Even Lena Radionova with us. The three of us competing in training. It is understood that we do different elements, but we try to do our programs. At the same time constantly joking. In general, such a positive atmosphere.

Q: Maybe you will teach Lena a quad?

A: I think that if Lena skates her programs cleanly, everything will be great.

I'm glad to hear they are getting along so well in training. I just hope Lena is able to train well when Inna Goncharenko is away with Max and Sergei at these various competitions.

Looks like Lena hung out with a tennis player today:

Cutie!

Well, I was kinda surprised we didn't get any social media posts from Lena over the weekend, but she gave us three today! :agree:
Looks like she went to the Alena Akhmadullina fashion show:

Tanya was there too!

I guess this means Akhmadullina is still sponsoring Lena...?

I *TOTALLY* loved the dress Lena wore to the TCC banquet that she designed:
https://www.instagram.com/p/BEm7uGvwYZ9/?taken-by=lenok_radionova

...but I really HATED the dress she designed for Lena for Worlds...(the pink and green one). So if they are still collaborating on costumes, I hope it turns out better... :slink:

Has this been announced somewhere? I loved Shoma's Turandot FS from last year, so I am excited about this, though I thought I read somewhere that she didn't want to do warhorse programs?

ETA: Oops, never mind, just saw the post announcing the changes on ISU.

Welcome to GoldenSkate, dear Sports.ru user.

Post often, post long and good luck. :)

Lena fighting!

FINALLY we find out what Lena's LP is!!!! :yahoo:

Yes, I remember reading that too, so I'm definitely surprised by her choice! But I'm pleasantly surprised! I think it would be so cool to see Lena skating to "Nessun Dorma"! :agree: But I am slightly worried that it's going to turn out to be some weird medley/arrangement... :drama:
I *REALLY* hope it's as good as Shoma's FS.

I guess that's why she was in California a few months back. I was thinking that she might be working with Rafael Artunian's team (like Masha did last summer), but she didn't post any pics with anyone (and I didn't see anyone post photos with her), so I wasn't sure...

SUPER EXCITED TO SEE LENA SOON!! :hap93:

Separately, found this old photo from 2016 Worlds:

I got a big kick out of this one because Lena's wearing the Harvard University hoodie I gave to her!!!!!!

Interesting choice.
It seems Turandot has been favored by many Asian skaters. Any other Europeans or Americans skated to it before?
