Im really amused at how Patrick and Yuzuru are always such polar opposites, even their costumes are contrasting with each other. Yuzuru didn't have much steam in the first half but picked up in the second half, Patrick had so much steam in first half and lost it in the second half.

Overall they were close but edge goes to Patrick because his SP was so much better. I was really impressed by how Yuzuru and Patrick will do like two crossovers and then just fly to the other side of the rink. I am not worthy, drowned in good skating skills today haha

Also Patrick's 4S technique is a bit strange, he digs in his left toepick and it dragged across the ice in a squiggly line before he took off (and fell). I actually took a picture of the squiggle before it was erased. Yuzuru doesn't dig in on his salchow and its much airier

I was not impressed by Patrick, his half program was full of mistakes and the program itself is boring. Yusuru had better program, falling only on the 4L, a jump Chan have never tried in competition. The other mistake was popping a jump in a combination, but came back immediately and did the quad..These were the only flaws in Yuzuru's program. His 3 Axel is a beauty. He also had 4T and 4S with good landings P. C did not get the same final ovations from the public too. Reynolds was very well received having standing ovations.
But what I loved most was Misha Ge's program. OMG! What a beauty. he had the longest standing ovation among all skaters.

He should go back to China. Maybe he'll fall 5 times and win a silver medal there again.

Let's not pretend that only one skater gets the benefit of the doubt.

That's not a really neccesary or valid dig, imo. Which medal you get depends on how others did, and the field was really weak there. His tech was still very high if you look at the protocols and he would still have gotten silver even if his PCS was 10 points lower.

I'm not contesting the results here, but that's not a really good argument.

People want to complain about Patrick and Yuzuru but I want to lament about Misha. I found him better than Michal and Daniel Samohin, it sucked to go first in the SP but he got a standing ovation for the LP, he did any amazing job and I was on my feet. His speed needs work but he's such a wonderful performer, I'm so glad I got to see him live

When I watched Yuzuru's SP for the first time at practice, I LOLed because I had known and watched Patrick's new SP and found it so joyful and light hearted and here was Yuzuru wanting to get crazy! Contrast, yes. And each is a new styles for each of them.

Well Hanyu didn't deserve to be that close for pcs for his empty performance. It is all relative. And skate america wasn't much better for scoring or over scoring.

Hanyu won the lp and that was fair. He just was too far behind in the sp and that's why he lost. Quite frankly he was too generously marked tes and pc wise in the sp. Chan won it sadly with errors but Hanyu had more. I have to say this push for quads really has affected skating in a negative way. Honestly, I cannot see how Hanyu's sp suits him at all and he doesn't seem to understand it or interpret it but rather skates through it. It is not connected unlike his past performances. The costume does nothing at all and to be honest the more quads he does the more lack of choreo he seems to have especially the lp. But I agree with the current scoring system he will win even with falls. Iknow they tried balancing things but the quads are worth so much if they are rotated even with a fall - you can use them to score more than a double axel or triple toe or salcow or maybe even a loop and score equal or more with a fall. Hanyu will improve as per usual later on but really I hate this quad push. And I hate this hate on Hanyu or Chan or anyone. Bring back just good basic skating

Why this be about Patrick and Hanyu and people lining up trying to make it an academic exercise when clearly we have our own biases. Both imho are wonderful and talented skaters. Hanyu is the better technician and while has wonderful artistry there is something so pure, organic and intrinsically from within form Chan. i hate how this becomes almost a personal attack on the skater (and in some cases poster). WE clearly have our biases - some of the more well known posters here are true to their colors. I admit am more sad to see the push for quads because of their value makes me not like Chan's programs so much and for that matter Hanyu. It is safe to say each competition will have national bias. Whether it be blatant due to judging or because of location with more supportive fans that is a fact of life. If you could read our posts from a non skating fan you would see how crazy we are lol. people will disagree as is the nature of these thread but probably Chan and Hanyu are the best overall skaters. yes there are fans of Fernandez, Chen, Boyang, Brown,Uno, Yan, Ge, Brezina, Abbott et al. I wish they both could get an OGM. It appears the "hate" for the jumping beans or quads for me is much more tempered than in the past when for example Bonaly was on the scene and everyone trashed her push for more triple jumps.We can thank these young guys for pushing the quad quotient - good or bad I think the jury is still out.

0.43 goe for Hanyu's 4t...0. for his 3F. 1.29 for 3a1lo3s...weird!!!

I can't imagine SA ever refusing Hanyu. Per Orser, it was Hanyu's fans who filled up half the seats at SC. If he had been at SA, I don't think two-thirds of the seats would have been empty. Even though both Mao and Shoma were there, their combined presence was not enough to make a real difference in turnout.
Which makes me wonder: Is it Japanese fans who are "holding up skating" or is it the fans of Hanyu? If it's the latter, FS is really going to be in trouble when that kid retires from competitive skating.

Most of Chinese fans say they won't watch figure skating anymore once Yuzuru retires. I know many fans in Asia will do the same though, sadly.

I usually don't come and post here. but this logic is belong to everyone who have favourite skaters.not only yuzu fan but also other skaters fan. this sports will be kept on by young and veteran stars and various fans. I have been fs fan and yuzu fan shortly, time will go on and new star will birth and record breaking will continue. so as a fan of competitive skaters, don't worry about fs popularity or seat sold out. just enjoy this time and no regrets when retire.
And personally I think SC pick was replected yuzu's strong will to no jet-lag.

Anyway, congratulate to medalists and expect to develpments each skaters until next gp.

and... we thought that nobody would care about figure skating in Korea when Yuna would retire... and look what is happening over there? Chinese fans will have Jin to cheer for and who knows who else will be there... I remember thinking I wouldn't like figure skating anymore when Kurt would retire... yet, then there were other guys I started to like and to this day, I am still watching... and if you see when I signed up for this forum, it was during Chan's retirement...

if you are a yuzu fan, maybe your interest will diminish... if you love figure skating, you will find other people to love...

On a side note, i see some of you guys are going around with GOEs etc.. I have looked again, when Patrick nailed his jumps, even the 3 T they were textbook. You cannot deny him +++ GOE... Yuzu tonight wasn't himself. His jumps were not as gorgeous as usual. Look at the low landings, hanging on on the quads... so after the rough start and the fight on some jumps, it's quite normal IMHO that judges are less willing to come up with the +++... I have seen Yuzu struggle with jumps at ACI, and when he is not on, they aren't worth +3. Was he on tonight? I don't think so. YMMV

H!aaaaa My prediction came true ))))) I knew that basing on home advantage was the right thing )) I'm away from seeing any skating for the next 2 weeks but hopefully I can manage to watch Misha's & Michal's perfs!!
