2016-2017 State of Canadian Figure Skating

You obviously didn't read my comments on Gabby from 2016 Worlds.....

You paid her a few compliments but one of your posts was simply congratulating her on her placement, not her actual performance. Let's not pretend that your involvement in posting about Canadian figure skating is not plagued with negativity.

You dislike Canadian fans, your veiled compliments to Gabby were really just you criticizing Skate Canada for assigning Katelyn Osmond to both SP and FS at the Olympic team event, repeated posts on how you don't think Alaine can break top 6 at Worlds ever (with score analysis, her edge issues, laughing at another member predicting if she can do a clean program with a 3A she could world champion one day), how Polina is better etc. Your comments about Canadian fans went beyond figure skating as well.

The list could go on. Even if you paid more compliments to Gabby doesn't mean your repeated replies to Canadian members who were optimistic about their ladies field were fueled by a passion for figure skating, in fact it does make us feel targeted and unwelcome to express our opinions.

ohhh... look there, someone beat me to it !!!:agree:

This is a discussion board. It is for OPINIONS. You often don't like my opinions, and sometimes I don't like yours. That's normal. Of Gabby and Alaine, I think Gabby has improved the most over the past two years and has the most upside. Alaine still has the same issues she always has had: sloppy skating with edge calls and double-footing. Every once and awhile she has a great skate, but because she doesn't work on her problem areas, she will continue to get dinged by the tech panels and held down in PCS by ISU judges. It is probably best that she is not continuing with the 3a because that was a performance killer last season.

I criticized Skate Canada for assigning Kaetlyn to both SP and FS in the Team event because she was still recovering from injury. That was not a criticism of Kaetlyn herself.

No Chuckie...you were actually being critical of Kaetlyn for a lack of LP results and referenced the Olympics and Gracie and Ashley. It was I who commented that unlike the American girls, Kaetlyn's individual performances at Sochi, may have been different if not for the 2 skates prior, in the Team event. Your criticisms then moved to not only include Kaetlyn, but then Skate Canada.

I appreciate that it must be hard keeping up with your stories, as they do change on a dime.

My point still stands. There will be lots of opinions on this board but your opinions are coming from a place of a negativity that is targeting these sorts of topics about Canadians. I have disagreed with a lot of people on this board, don't pretend that we are oblivious to the fact there will be opinions posted. I have even disagreed with 4everchan on his support for Patrick Chan (heavens forbid, a Canadian disagreed with a Canadian?!) yet I've never seen a user so consistently continue to track the progress for the purpose of repeatedly talking about the negative aspects.

I will reiterate, your consistent posts on Canadian skaters is not coming from a place of passion for figure skating, it is coming from a place to criticize and belittle the opinions of others and that sort of discussion is not welcome.

With much grousing from the Canadian fans..................

If you are so concerned with the integrity of allowing opinions on a discussion board, how does this add value to a conversation?

All I get from this post is:

1. Canadian fans complain a lot
2. Canadian fans are shady
3. You don't think the result are legitimate because of Canadian fans

Chuckm, what's your beef with Canada? Is it Canada itself, or just the skaters? I'm perplexed. Maybe it's because I always want people to be happy but, having been to Canada for several non-skating events and then attending Skate Canada and Worlds in Canada, I have never been around such nice people. Maybe Russia, but that's it.

Your opinions are always negative towards Canadians. I have refrained from interacting with you, but you never offer any constructive criticism. You are here to bash. I have even read comments from you against Canadians on the ISU official forums. Don't pretend you are being nice.

No one in the rink at Skate Canada saw sloppy skating from Alaine Chartrand. Technical issues, yes, just like every female skater that took the ice. If you'd like to talk about questionable skating, go watch Gracie Gold at Skate America or Mirai Nagasu at Skate Canada.

Seeing the fantastic Canadian results this weekend I guess you've had to double up on the negativity. Really pitiable.

After reading reports that Canadian crowds routinely start leaving before a competition is over, while skaters are still competing on the ice, just to get a head start on traffic, I will never attend a competition in Canada.

You clearly cannot read then. No one left before anyone had finished skating. Do yourself a favour and stay away from Canada.

Again, if you are so concerned with allowing people to have discussions, why are you avoiding everyone pointing to evidence that you irrationally dislike Canadians?

Yet you just have to continuously add 1 sentence posts about how bad Canadians are. That is definitely not discussion.

Don't let the actions of a small number of people define the greater population. Generalizations can lead to racism and discrimination. It is not like everyone defines the conduct of Americans with the actions of Donald Trump.

4everchan wasn't even in the rink :palmf:

This is going majorly off topic. chuckm start a post in The Edge to criticize all the Canadians, their fans, their venues, etc. We don't need this garbage here.

The new CEO of Skate Canada appears to have a great background in banking. They could really use that. Thanks for sharing the info TGee. We'll have to find out next year how she brings the books in order. The Skate Ontario unification is also happening next year. So much change coming about. Hope the skaters all benefit from everything.

And lots of fans left during Kevin Reynolds' SP on the first day including many of the Japanese fans, some stayed for the performance and left before the score was even announced and he's Canadian. It's unfortunate that some people will do that but they don't represent everyone else. I stayed until the very last announcement for all the skaters on all three days and I'm Canadian.

Glad we've finally found a solution everyone can endorse. :agree:
