OMG. Those Level 2s and even a Level 1 were painful to see on the protocols.

I will confess that I am still unsure what to 100% think at this point. This just makes me feel so sad. :(

He had SBs at Rostelecom for his SP, FS, and total score :cool:, so he is moving in the right direction with everything.

Those shoes are problematic. Why not just have a nice part of black shoes? But I don't think they are as bad as what he did with that shirt. Why didn't he tuck the shirt in and unbutton it a couple of buttons? Especially if he had a nice belt, that look would have made his chest to his waist look more accented. I hope I am making sense with this suggestion.
 
^It's our dear Max. He is adorably fashion-awkward.

I wonder why he keeps going back to Black Betty for the ex? In the last four years, he's actually had a couple of different ones - the Man's World/Git Up Offa That Thing one which we saw a grand total of once, What Makes You Beautiful which we saw for SOI only (and never got a decent video of), Too Close which we got at least twice, Thunderstruck which lasted all last season...but he keeps going back to BB.

Could it be a thing that Mr Mills or Z don't like him spending time on exs? Or he doesn't like spending time on them? He's obviously capable of doing really good exs - I actually loved his Man's World/Git Up Offa That Thing even if the context was completely heartbreaking - but for some reason...

I mean, he obviously enjoys it and it always makes me smile, but I just feel like it's getting really, really old.

In any case, Max seemed to be in good spirits :dance2: at the banquet. I happened to catch some Periscoping by Bobrova, and he was smiling and waving at the camera in a panning shot of the Team USA table. He was enjoying the company of Madi Chock sitting next to him. (I missed who was on his other side.)

My two cents re the opening reception:
The shoes never have bothered me, and I like the buttoned collar. In any case, I think it's cool when Max goes for something of a "look" -- as opposed to (for example) Evan in the same photo, whose (perfectly fine) attire blends into the woodwork. Go big, or go home.​

I have a soft spot for Black Betty, b/c as Max's 2013 Nats exhibition, it was one of the things that helped me take notice of him in the first place.
I was only vaguely aware of him before 2013 Nats ... and his win piqued my curiosity. His showmanship (and terrific smiles :)) in Black Betty gave me a better sense of Max that had not come across in competition.
(I did wonder where his usual jeans were today. I could have used a change from the familiar black pants :laugh:.

I guess I am blind :hopelessness:. In the live streaming, looked to me as if he were wearing the ol' black pants. Thanks to karne's post in the U.S. men's thread, I just checked a video and I see that he was wearing a darker pair of jeans than the faded ones that I remember.)​

It's ok ice coverage, when he first came out onto the ice I thought they were his pants, too. It made me giggle a lot because I envisaged it as some kind of flip to the judges: "Oh, you don't like these, huh?". But then I noticed they were actually just darker jeans. He must have worn out the old pair :laugh:

Max was a very SnuggleFlirt during the exhibition. It was lots of fun.

Just finished watching The Lion King in Russia! So glad he came back in the free skate. Continue to appreciate all the work they are putting in to perfect the program. Great job Max! We know he can perform Nessun Dorma perfectly it was just a rough skate.
 
:dance2: This just in: Max will be performing in an outdoor ice show on Dec 18 in NYC :yay:.


The show is organized by ice dancers Melissa Gregory and Denis Petukhov, who are the resident coaches/instructors at Brookfield Place.

I am hopeful that the show will be free of charge.
(In Feb 2016, Melissa and Denis held a free show at Brookfield Place. The cast for that one included Mirai and Jeremy.)

Scimeca and Knierim also are among the cast of the upcoming Dec show.

[Max, Alexa, and Chris recently were among the faces in Melissa's big group photo at the World Arena.

I am so ready for this weekend! I am so excited to see our Lion King in action again! AND I am so excited that it is at a reasonable karnetime!

He was so good! That second 4S was :love:. And I, ahem, quite like this sleek, tight-fitted, all-black look on him. :o:

Kinda bummed out about his PCS though.

I just don't get it. This is so much better than Black Swan but it's constantly scoring under. And he was only a point ahead of Kovtun! It's disgusting!
 
Thanks to this thread I'm getting some clarity over Max's mysterious costume violation. Personally though I still don't see it.

I mean the only time I thought a violation might be in order was when Boyang Jin's shirt rode up to his bra line in a camel spin, but no one who understands gravity and lives outside of a Nathaniel Hawthorne universe is going to penalize this stuff.

My more cynical side is starting to believe it is being used to punish certain body types for men and women. Unless it's a matter of supportive back braces or spring loaded boots, I think they really need to delete this nonsense.
