Max Aaron

Thx for the replies re the costume violation. And apologies to karne -- somehow I overlooked yours when I previously was replying to Stitch.

I know that tights can be either footless or footed.
To me, Max's pants look as if they have more weight/heft/thickness than what I would call tights. YMMV.
(And I know karne is a competitive skater, whereas I definitely am not.)

Anyway, a general question: Is Rule 501 the only rule governing costumes?
(I know it says no tights for men. But most of the language there seems quite vague and open to interpretation. Wondering whether more specific language about other costume stuff is elsewhere in an ISU document.)

Even before I noticed the Lombardia violation (from one judge), it had struck me that Misha's and Max's FS pants at the Autumn Classic looked virtually identical. (I just re-watched the bromance Instagram video of them with Yuzuru right before the medal ceremony. Max and Misha look cute as they walk together in their matching pants.)
And surely other men compete in very similar pants??

And I (randomly) seem to recall that the top of Han Yan's costume has been known to fly up a lot in competition.

So I hope Max never has points deducted, but he doesn't seem to be alone.

Unrelated thought:
Never got around to commenting on a favorite moment from the Autumn Classic victory ceremony. The ceremony has just ended, and all three men step off the podium. Max notices that the signage on the silver medalist's side is falling down, so he bends down to put it back in place (as much as possible). And then Misha bends down too. I found it very sweet :luv17: that they wanted to fix it, even though the ceremony was over. (And their ceremony was the last one of the competition.) Such nice young men.

I think where Max - and the others - get away with it is that what they're really wearing is leggings. Not tights, but not strictly pants, either. So it depends on how strictly the judge wants to adhere to the rule. I think unless something obscene was showing, they would probably let it slide. Max's Gladiator pants were probably the tightest he'd worn and I thought he was really lucky to get away with those, because they did somewhat emphasise what the rule was put in place to de-emphasise. Not that I was looking! :o:

However, I am inclined to think the judge who pressed the button at Lombardia was thinking about Max's visible underwear rather than the tightness of his pants. It was a little distracting. In the case of Han Yan's shirts flying up, you don't normally see his underwear, but with Max's penchant for his brightly-coloured underarmour and his low-slung leggings, it does leave him vulnerable to that sort of deduction if he forgets to attach his shirt. (If you look at the waistband of Max's pants in the Lombardia video, you can actually see the hooks for attaching his shirt.)

Max's latest quad axel attempt (with harness):

It has more good Max images from the photo shoot as well.

Love that our fearless SnuggleLion is still leaping ahead.

Hate that when I posted the thread out there, the immediate replies were majority negative. I hate the double-standard that is applied to him. If it had been a video of Hanyu...

Awaken, SnuggleLionBat fans! For this weekend the Lion King will defend his pride in Russia!

Rostelcom is going to be an awesome competition. Can't wait. Wonder if Max made the decision to come home or to stay overseas and prepare for Cup of China.

Thanks for starting off our discussion of :bmrk: 2016 ROSTELECOM CUP :bmrk:.

Go, SnuggleLionBat :yay:.

Before we're swept completely into GP mode, adding/catching up on other stuff (for posterity):

- Max showed his support for collegiate figure skating this weekend -- as a spectator  at a competition at Colorado College.
Along with Angela :). (Or so I think? Looks as if she is sitting next to him in the mini-vid?)

- BTW, not new, but another mention of the scholarships won by Max and Angela (and other ladies) at U.S. Collegiates:

- One of the best (IMO) #ShowMeHealthy pics of Max is in this gallery posted at the end of SMH week. (The photo previously was seen in one of the SMH videos.)

- Stuff from the "We Get Up" site, cross-posted from the U.S men thread:

~ What do you want non-skaters to know about figure skating? (Max video)

~ Do you ever use your skating moves on the dance floor? (Max video)

~ U.S. men's intermediate and juvenile champion TJ Nyman is the skater/actor who is cast in the fictional storyline video on the home page of the site.
An excerpt from the behind-the-scenes Q and A with him:
Is there a skater you admire?
TJ: Yeah, my friend Max Aaron, who is a national champion and a world competitor. He’s really good. I look up to him. He’s one of my buddies. He’s manly. He’s tough. He boxes. He works out a lot. People don’t see that side of it. They just look at the skating and go, ‘oh, he’s skating in a tight uniform.’ Figure skating is known as a girl’s sport because mostly girls do it. But they don’t understand that the sport is also very mentally tough and physically tough too, for both male and female athletes.

:hap10: Good luck to Max at his first GP in Moscow this weekend! :hap10:

message from my husuband ;): "Go Max! Like your name, just go out and kill it at maximum of your ability, never to skate at minimum ability. :hap85: Skating fans in Russia gonna love your huge jumps. No doubt."

Does anyone know what Snuggle Lion's plans are between his 2 GP events? Just curious.

Thx to you and your husband, deedee :ghug:. As I have said before, Mr. deedee has good taste :agree:.

Unrelated to Rostelecom:

Has Snuggle Lion grown a new mane? His hair(s) look different! Curly-ish? I like it, whatever it is.

Thx to Sorrento for all the great photos of Max and other men :thank:.
The shots of SnuggleLion certainly are whetting my appetite for the competition .
Go, Max :yay:.

In response (sort of) to Arriba:
Does not answer your question (and actually raises new ones), but I see that Becky Calvin is at Rostelecom with Max. (Not a bad thing.) She happens to be next to Marcotte at the boards as he works with Elladj.
Leads me to believe that Tom Z did not travel to Russia. Presumably he is back home prepping skaters for Sectionals (which overlap with Cup of China) and working with Mirai for NHK.
Only my meaningless speculation, but I wonder who will be with Max in China. Becky?? Tom?? Phillip??
In any case, does seem possible (although I would not say probable) that Max will stay overseas after Rostelecom?? And IMO, one of several possible scenarios would be that Becky would too???

As an aside:
Interesting that the photos show that Rohene apparently attended men's practice.
I know he is working with Chock/Bates in Russia. Maybe Courtney too (at least to some extent)?
But guessing that Rohene just wanted to observe the men in general . Smart.

I appreciate your response. I figured I had just missed Max's game plan. But then they don't have to tell all of their strategy. For his sake, I hope he is going somewhere that is close by and that he can maximize his time for getting in a little training...Very interesting that Rohene would be "scoping out" the other competitors. Sounds like a great idea to me!

I believe that in the Ice Talk podcast, Lynn R said he was going with C&B. I'm sure that won't preclude him from scoping out the men's comp!

And since this is Max's thread - go Max!

I like the longer curls in the pictures I saw.

Somehow, I find myself doubting that Z would send Max off to a GP without him. We know he rushed home after TEB last year and left Max in Phillip's capable hands for Tallinn, but that was a B event. While I'm sure all of Z's team are quite capable of looking after Max, I would be more inclined to think that if CoR clashed with an event Z would send Becky to the event and go himself to Russia with Max.

Perhaps Z will arrive late?

Max looks great in those pictures - he must have done the FS run through in practice, I recognise the Lion King from the pictures. I think his hair is a little longer on top, let's just hope it doesn't get out of control.
