2016-17 State of Russian Ladies skating

Both Anna and Masha were so on.

Masha in particular was a clean skate: this is so important to stay clean and consistent when you have to build your marks and she deservedly received the PB here, so good for her.

Anna was a little distracted today: the 3t slightly underrotated, the shaky biellmann, but this program is so beautiful, it suits her so much and i'm happy judges increases her second mark.

Anna is fine because as long a she doesnt have a splatfest =)
She got some nice advantage above #3 and below, which gives her some room to relax in FS.

Masha is doing a great job. Its quite important for her to gain some momentum as soon she will be fighting for the euros/worlds team spot. This season, it looks like it will be between Evgenia, Anna, Lena, Masha and Liza - and just 3 spots =(

Getting to GPF ahead of Liza would give Masha some advantage.

I think ladies skating or body type going to change in next couple of year. If you ask anyone last years ''+1.70m ladies skaters can get triple triples under control'?' they probably would say no way. Best example is Kostner which mostly inconsistent with big jumps. Sotskova and Tsurkaya shouldn't jump triple+triples but they can now. Maybe russians found a way for height problems.

And the men have become shorter with Hanyu, Chan around that 1.7m mark compared to the Russian men in the past who were taller.

The GPF for ladies seems to be a teaser trailer of Russian nationals.

Nice, four spots at GPF! :yahoo: This will be the best international event of the season for Russia, as they are capped at 3 entries for the remainder of events (including Euros & Worlds).

Think about it: it's literally impossible for Russia NOT to podium at the GPF.

Its good to have some goals, and now russia definitely has to work on a GPF sweep rather than a podium sweep.
Doable next year i think.

Did any country ever do it in any discipline?

Russian ladies just proved again that they are the best in the world: 7 spots in senior/junior GPF combined vs. 4 for Japan and 1 for Canada but.... we are losing the battle with the US thread miserably: 152 thousand views vs 212 thousand. Even worse is the number of posts - we need to catch up.

I still hope to get to the Nationals. There were nice seats available for a small price but online booking did not work. Now black market dealers in Moscow offer seats for 5000 - 6000 rbls. per day (about $100): and they are not good. I am trying to pull some strings among my acquiantances in Chelyabinsk region. Despite the awkward logistics: there are not that many convenient flights to Moscow like from Ekaterinburg or Sochi - a true fan just cannot miss the Russian nationals this year - in ladies it's the event of the season. The key drama is about who is going to get the third team spot: Elena, Maria or steadily gaining strength Liza. The second drama is who is the leader among the 3 "194 juniors": Tsurskaya, Gubanova, and Zagitova. The third drama is whether Yulia is back or what? The fourth drama is the pecking order among outstanding but already second tier juniors: Nugumanova, Konstantinova, Lozko, Samodurova. The fifth drama is Panenkova (if she is invited): is she a prodigy that was just left behind? Can she prove herself? I could go on. That will be THE EVENT.

It will be the best female event of the season for sure :D

Black Market tickets for Figure Skating event, wow. You would think that this is for some football match, huh.

Hope Maria gets better music for her programs next season. Her SP is a bad version of a lovely piece of music; her LP music is slow, repetitive and seems to approach to the end for the last 3rd of the program, but still not ending...

For a tall lady, she should use less arm movement, and more long-held positions to evoke a sense of elegance. Intricate arm movements are not easy to do, and suited her when she was much smaller in her first junior year. Less arm movements for a small skater will likely to be perceived as boring, but elegant for a tall skater.

I have had the flu so just catching up on NHK viewing now. All I can say is Anna P is the Queen. I am so happy to see how well it has come together for her this year. She is mesmerizing.

Russian Ladies definitely brought it this year.

No i think the short is fine, i like the editing but the LP is a little repetitive.

The one thing bugged me a lot, is that i love "story of an unknown actor", especially the final part and they didn't include it. Why?

I found few months ago this particular version (probably on VK, cause i can't find it on youtube) of that finale and it is soooooo good, the best version of that part and i've listened so many times.

I think if they would try hard enough, they would make it possible. Nothing is impossible for a Russian woman.

It is. If one of them withdraws, Wagner is the first alternate and would most likely contend for podium along with Miyahara and Osmond. Of course, that is like 0.000000000000001% chance of happening.
