Not sure if this was shared yet, but ran across this gem from Nobu - Yuzu, Nobu, Satoko, and Keiji doing koi dance:

Hahaha, this is hilarious! I think he's been dying to perform this to an audience. Thanks Team Japan! He's such an all-or-nothing person in everything he does. I think he's more committed to the choreography than even the actors on the show from what I see.
I think I read somewhere that the gala practice was the first time he's practicing 4Lo in combination? I don't see it fitting anywhere in the 2 programs this year since that would involve changing the choreography in the SP and moving the combo to the first half of FS or replacing the 4S3T with this, which is likely more stable, so it's probably in the same long-term territory as the 4Lz. I wonder if it helps him stabilize the landing (or getting that 'pah!' according to him) by mentally preparing for the incoming combo.

Haven't watched anything but big congrats to Yuzu for doing so well in NHK!! :yes2:

And thank you in advance for all the links/news/translations everyone! :luv17:

Translation of Yuzuru's talk with Akiko before the NHK gala:

There is this part which is the most interesting:
Hanyu: Yes, it’s quite uncommon to put all the edge jumps in SP.
Akiko :You mean loop, salchow and axel…
Hanyu: As my belief or my pride, I am trying to jump all salchows along the short side of the rink, because edge jumps are usually executed along the long side of the rink, I mean through a curve. But in my case, I have decided to jump salchows along the similar path as toeloops."

HAHA.HA. He's purple! Lmao, Nooo all I wanted was some colored bling on your pants Yuzu!!! :eeking:

And when did he take face giving lessons from Elena/Madison?? He's giving some +5GOE expressions during his SP.

I need time to adjust loll so much to take in.

Is Johnny Weir still designing Yuzu's costumes? If so, I have an angry letter to write :dev2:

No, he's not doing this year's costumes.

Translation of Yuzuru's talk with Akiko before the NHK gala:

Hanyu: The white version made my movements hard to see, and lots of people told me that, including Jeffery Buttle (Yuzuru’s choreographer). Also, the white one you can see through the lining, and that’s another problem. So after some discussion, we made it purple. We might change it further, because we want to give more of the live feeling.

I should send Buttle some of those purple chocolates, considering the issues of movement. I am not surprised he says they might change it further though, I expect probably making it more dark/deep purple and maybe more bling? but though he looked majestic in the white, I do love the purple too. He seemed very happy with the reaction so that's important.

Hanyu: When I do this (the “mou chotto” sign), I actually mean the length of equator.(laugh)

Of course you do. He is exasperatingly wonderful.
I was also happy to hear the 4S combo issues are more of a mental barrier, connected to the second half of the program because it should be easier to work on that then. Great interview, thanks!

Eurosport recap (Sunday), Dutch commentary (two commentators).

This is the showdown of the NHK Trophy, although will it really be a showdown, because Yuzuru Hanyu’s lead over the rest was bonkers. He was so good. It’s always a waiting game to see how good he is during the regular GPs. We saw that in Skate Canada, where he in spite of a not-brilliant performance got a decent second place behind Chan. But now his performance in the SP really very good, over 100 points, and we hope to see that in the FS as well. The overall win should a done deal, but we’re mostly hoping for 4.5 minutes of grandiosity on the ice.
Yes, he was really very good (Dutch: steengoed “stone good” meaning superb), but not happy yet. A little mistake in the quad loop, which he overrotated. He’d hoped for more points. He’s hoping to get closer to a clean loop, and that’s here! Now it’s completely perfect! At long last, or actually, not yet at Skate Canada, yesterday almost, and now completely. Quad salchow, piece of cake (Dutch: een eitje “an egg”). Here comes a quad salchow, aw shame. Quad toeloop. Triple axel, triple toeloop. And another axel. And the triple lutz, that one was still missing.
Wow, (Dutch: tsjonge jonge, it doesn’t translate well). Four quads in the FS, okay, one fall, hehehe, he says, “I was almost there”. Yes, an almost perfect FS, one mistake, a fall on the second salchow, but four quads, three different ones, and two gorgeous triple axels, and a triple lutz and a triple flip. And lovely, that quad loop succesful. It’s a work in progress, every year Yuzuru Hanyu begin the season and you think, Oh, he’s making it so difficult for himself! Again more difficult programs with more technical content without making any compromise on the difficulty of the choreography and transitions, and competition after competition you see him grow and get closer and now it wasn’t perfect yet with one fall, but often with the GP Final, he is there and skates another record. And he is not satisfied with less than perfection, again that hand going up, saying, I was close, but it wasn’t perfect yet. Yesterday, of course everybody was crazy with excitement because over 100 points, but he said, I’d hoped for more. “I wanted more”, he said (she quote him in English here), and his coach Brian Orser said, “Yes, I know you want more.” So I guess he often tempers Hanyu’s enthusiasm, his willpower, take it one step by step. Here again that quad loop, same take-off leg as the landing, four rotations, clean landing, quad salchow, that was the first one, it was very good, and he’s good at all those jumps, loop, salchow, those are not toe-pick (?) jumps, where you do not “prik” (stab?) into the ice with your second leg, but you do do that with the toeloop, flip and lutz, and he’s capable of doing them all. He chooses to go for the toeloop, which we see here as quad, and the loop. I have confidence that he will also learn the flip and the lutz. And a gift to the Japanese audience, here in the arena, to see their Olympic champion skate like this, and to see him skate better than at those Olympic games.
I guess we can now talk about the big four in the figure skating, Fernandez, Patrick Chan, Uno, who has joined them, and Hanyu, and fortunately we’ll see all of them in the GPF. That is going to be a crazy competition. Yes, all four of them are in shape. And they perform consistently well, otherwise you do not make it to the Final. [some blabla about Brown and Rippon]
Now, is it going to be another 200+ so early in the season? No, not quite yet, but 197.58 is, of course an incredible score, and you thought Tanaka did pretty well, but we’ll throw another thirty points on top of that, and you get Hanyu’s score. It is almost too bizarre to put into words, but it has happened and you could see that it was no more than justified, and it must go very strange indeed if he doesn’t win the NHK Trophy now. And that is, I say ‘only’ his fourth win in a normal GP out of fourteen appearances. Over 300 points total. And it was until about 1.5 years ago unimagineable that that barrier would be broken, but both Hanyu and Fernandez have managed it. So Hanyu has set the bar high indeed for the next skater.

I will check and see if the Monday highlights program had different commentary, I suspect it did (in which case the British commentary is also different, btw)

:laugh::laugh:Team Japan Trio doing Pen Pineapple Apple Pen. Keiji has the " uh" down. Ryuju has the pen hold down.
Yuzuru's expression seems to say "Yes, I know I look like ルマンド."

Saw the photo, and noticed that his tie is purple. Wanted to check if it was the same shade as his SP costume (it is not, the tie is darker, but how cool would have been if it was ) and stumbled upon this:
Cute Yuzuru facts
Don't know if anything is new here, but well it is... cute :p
