For a tall lady, she should use less arm movement, and more long-held positions to evoke a sense of elegance. Intricate arm movements are not easy to do, and suited her when she was much smaller in her first junior year. Less arm movements for a small skater will likely to be perceived as boring, but elegant for a tall skater.

I agree with this. It's sort of like in ballet how the men don't need to have as intricate arm movements as the ladies. I'm not saying that these tall girls are like men but I think I prefer them with less arms flapping about and longer and more meaningful poses. I think it suits her skating style more. Same with Polina T. They already have a natural elegance.

+ as their arms and legs are longer, kinda takes more time to get everything right without looking like a windmill.

In addition to elegance and lines, tall skaters have different issues in centering and stability that need to be considered. But their deep edges with their long legs look so much more expressive.

The really tall male ice dancers such as Guillaume Cizeron (186 cm or 6'1 1/2) or Andrew Poje (190 cm or 6'3) are good to look at on their own to see what maximizing the positives in height can offer.

When Poje did a half rotation jump in their Spanish SD in 2014-15, it was gorgeous and a real statement, whereas if a small woman did the same it would just look princessy and juniorish.

It would be great if choreographers could look to them and see what opportunities there are for tall women with good extension. For me, Anna's programs seem most to be heading in this direction.

That spiral in Polina Tsurskaya short makes me cringe every time. Costs nothing to hold it for, i dunno, a moment longer =(
 
The Russian Senior Nationals lineup this year is going to be crazy! Was there ever a year where all the likely competitors have competed at either GP or JGP?

This year it is likely to be the case as there would be 8-9 ladies qualifying from GP (depending on whether Artemieva is included) + Sotnikova + 3 more ladies from JGPF = 12-13 spots. The remaining 5-6 spots are likely to be taken up by Natalia Ogoreltseva (JGP 2013/14), Stanislava Konstantinova (JGP 2016/17), Alisa Fedichkina (JGP 2015/16 & JGP 2016/17), Elizaveta Nugumanova (JGP 2016/17), Alisa Lozko (JGP 2016/17), and Valeriya Mikhailova (JGP 2015/16).
 
I'm very happy for all the ladies who made it to GPF, including the ones who happen to be Russian. Honestly, their nationality doesn't impact how much I enjoy their skating; all the celebrating over "Russian ladies" truly undercuts their individual accomplishments and the uniqueness of each lady.

Anna skates like a queen. Evgenia is rock-solid and has excellent expression. Elena is gritting it out through her struggles and her SP suits her extremely well. Maria is a fresh face with some rough edges, but as delicate as her skating is, she has competitive fire and she's lovely to watch (like Anna, I think she will take longer to 'season' and become World medalist quality.)

I'm happy for all of them as individuals! (And personally rooting for Anna in an upset victory!)

Well this is an english speaking forum with most posters having their focus (and bias) towards the North American skaters. I bet the numbers are quite different in russian boards or even europe-oriented sites.
 
So much for Tsurskaya vs Gubanova showdown.

Anastasia will have an easy walk in the park towards gold. The rest will just have to compete for silver and bronze.

I think Rika Kihara is going to challenge for gold, but Anastasia certainly has a good chance.
 
Now I am afraid with Polina's height, she is much more prone to serious injuries than smaller skaters, thinking about with similar kind of all, she falls from a higher place...:sad21:

Anastasia's jumps have not been very consistent, so I don't think she is a gold favor. She might not podium if it were not a good jump day for her.
