Will it be in the Olympic venue?
It would be a good strategy for any skater planning to aim for Pyeongchang Olympics. However, Ashley has said that 4CC takes away for her training because it drains her a lot more at her age. She be thinking of worlds rather than thr Olympics.
It will. It's a good way to try out the venue before the games and make adjustments. I think they did the same thing in Vancover in 2009.
I agree that it's risky. I think it's more for Gracie's competition confidence though rather than beating other skaters or getting award money/prestige. If she does well, it resets her momentum for Nationals and beyond.

Absolutely what I was thinking, placement is always important when competing at this level, but this particular competition for Gracie may actually be about having a good, clean skate only to help her get that 1 last run in before Nationals. It will almost be a like a competition for herself and against herself, lol.

Ashley won four continents in 2012 so may not feel the need to return. Although perhaps this year she'll reconsider, since she failed to make the GPF, but that's speculation on my part. I heard a while back that Frank told Gracie "Win four continents and you never have to go back." Can't recall if Gracie said it in an interview or someone else.

Ashley should definitely consider attending 4CC THIS season. It's the event that lines up most closes to the Olympics. It would help her gauge how she can prepare herself for next season. (ie. combatting jetlag, venue proximities, and easing into the competition)

Ehhhhh, not saying that Ashley shouldn't attend 4CCs, but it's got to be sooooo different from the Olympics experience-wise. You're spending way more time there during the Olympics, probably living in the village, and the training/practice situation is probably rather different as well. I don't really think attending 4CCs has much to do with gauging anything regarding the Olympics.
If Ashley feels like 4CCs will benefit her, go for it. If not, don't. For singles, success at 4CCs doesn't seem to predict success at Worlds (and bombing at 4CCs doesn't predict bad things to come at Worlds, either.) I think the competition COULD potentially distract her from focusing 100% on Worlds.

I think the timing of 4CC is always problematic. Euros and US Nationals occur at roughly the same time, so the European skaters have already competed in a nearby event and can fully focus on peaking for Worlds. With 4CC, half the participants need to take a ~15 hour flight to get there, compete, then return to training while the European skaters are putting the finishing touches on their Worlds prep.

After watching Gracie and Karen today, I think it may be presumptuous to believe that the US women will have 3 spots at the Olympics.
Yeah looking at it right now there is no one dependable to help Ashley keep 3 spots at Worlds.
Even Ashley is not dependable at this point. She could be 7-12 range herself. Even worst. She was 6th in a random GP.

It's going to be tough, even if Ashley skates well. Russia and Japan will each send 3 strong women, Canada 2, plus Caro. That's 9 women who could post 200+ total scores (Mihara and Daleman have surpassed 190).

Sadly, this is true. I was concerned about it when Gracie started off poorly, but with Polina practically MIA, this is a very real possibility
I agree with the sentiment of this post, but I think it remains to be seen what sort of shape Carolina is in. The free skate is more revealing in terms of stamina and what sorts of triples are in her repertoire.

Anything can happen though. Making predictions this early is difficult. Let's see what happens in the ladies free skate tomorrow. Let's see what the girls do at nationals. By worlds the field could be completely different, Gracie could pull something like Anna did last year. You never know.
