2016-17 State of Russian Ladies skating

Love your video, and I don't think you need to change it, everyone would understand that it would've been made before the actual participants were known.

Love the graphic too, you are very talented!
You are mistaken quote. :) It's not me, it's Imagine work. And I agree, he/she definitely has talent!

That sounds quite serious not to mention painful! :( So many agile skaters who balance on knife boots are really clumsy just walking on the ground.
Get better soon. :sad21:

This is so true!! I have a friend who was so close to making it to US Nationals but I'll tell ya what...she is the clumsiest person off of the ice. Like next level clumsy with scars and scabs and all that on the daily. It's quite humorous actually

As to Yulia missing Nats..........Call me Rodriguez :furious:

On Dec. 18, while walking back from training, Julia Lipnitskaia fell on a slippery sidewalk. She has damaged her hip axis along with her lower spine. The diagnosis is a post-traumatic cervical arthritis along with a right hip bone bruise.

Sorry Yulia...but I laughed just a little...really?

I'm so totally going to hell for this. :palmf:

Seriously though, wish her the best. She has the worst luck. It's not been her season, but in a glass-half-full sort of way, at least she will now be spared from the incoming bloodbath LOL. And of course, I find out just hours after making the dumb video :rolleye: Thanks to all who watched it anyway, and sorry if I left some skaters out. Russia is so full of talent I would have to make a mini-series to get all of them.

Well with Lipnitskaia missing nationals (and subsequently the 2 remaining big competitions) hopefully she'll keep her programs from this year and be able to spend the off-season perfecting the routines and studying up on good luck rituals so that she can stay healthy.

In honor of someone who can do the craziest contortionist spins on ice but unsuccessfully walked on a sidewalk, below is a link of the 50 weirdest sports injuries http://bleacherreport.com/articles/1134989-the-50-weirdest-injuries-in-sports-history

Disclaimer: In no way am I trying to make fun of Lipnitskaia, she's my fave skater and I have a super clumsy gene that has landed me in the hospital several times with broken bones - I feel her pain.

Ugh what a stupid injury from Yulia, how could she fall on a slippery sidewalk? What was she doing?

A colleague of mine fell on an icy slippery pavement in Moscow and got multiple fractures of her ankle. Another fell and broke her arm. Unexpected falls are very dangerous.

Living in Moscow at the moment, let me tell you, one doesn't even have to do anything to fall. It's crazy slippery everywhere, I assume situation is similar in Sochi. :confused2:
Sad about Yulia, this is very unfortunate for her, wish her a speedy recovery.

Some people just have rotten luck with doing things billions of people do and not walk away from it un-injured. I wonder if some of the other injuries she has been dealing with over the last few years contributed to this injury being as severe as it is?

hi! im a real big fan of anna pogorilaya and i was just wondering, what do russian fans think of her? i know they really loved julia during the olympics and that liza was a huge hero cuz of her family upbringing (her dad passed away when she was young or something) and now apparently medvedeva is the new idol star (although i dont know what her upbringing was like)

what are russian fans' thoughts on anna? is she really loved there?

i honestly think she should have won this gpf, or at least gotten 2nd. i think her artistry is way superior than medvedeva's and she just has this sensual air about her skating... yet there is also this silent intensity and i really love that it's such a deep quality she has to her performances and i cant wait to see her slay at nationals

I just keep wanting Yulia to do well and be happy. I don't think she's got much of a chance until the Olympics, but I do hope she comes back strong next quad, she's still so young and talented. Her relationship with her new coach is also quite good so I can only hope for the best during this very frustrating period.

There have been cases of people slipping in the bathtub, falling, and breaking their skull, causing death. C'est la vie. Life is more ranndom than we think.

Whatever happens, Yulia will be OK. :)

yuzushenko, do you mean: will Anna win against Evgenia. In Russia there are fans of Evgenia, and fans of Anna. Fans of Evgenia think that Evgenia will will, fans of Anna think the same about Anna. Of course fans of Anna (as I am) agree with you, that she is gorgeous.
But almost everybody agree that it is unlikely for Anna to win this season (may be the next one), because of Evgenia difficulty and consistency. Now russian Fed. supports Eugenia. But if Anna will continue her consistent performances and if next year her programs will be such impressive like this year, she could win next (Olympic) season.
In russian figure skating forum poll "which Russian girl could be the next olympic champion", Anna is leading.

I have not read russian FS boards recently. They are sometimes quite nasty about skaters. Adelina vs. Yulia has died down. Now the hate is more towards Zhenya. So I cannot say that Medvedeva is 100% idol star among Russian fans.

As for me, I love both. I think that starting last season as Anna managed to overcome the horror of NHK they are the best 2 female skaters in the world among those competing. And our luck as spectators is that they are as different as skaters can be. Rough vamp beauty, speed, power of Anna vs. soft delicacy with big attention to detail of Evgenya. And interesting is that last season I prefered Anna's SP (I thought she should have won it fair and square but the worlds were in Boston) and Zhenya's FP. This season is vice versa. Zhenya's SP is pure joy, light and warm-hearted. Anna's FP is heavy but is freakingly emotional. I had goosebumps watching it.

.

Do you have any idea why that is? I mean, you couldn't have asked for a better competitor - girl just always delivers. I understand why Evgenia isn't the most loved skater on this forum but if I were a Russian and a skating fan, all that 'tano is stupid and backloading sucks' talk wouldn't bother me. I'd be like 'suck it you foreign haters, y'all just jealous cause that's how Russia rolls'

It's kind of like when the US had Sasha and Michelle. A lot of fans had a strong preference for one or the other. Russia has at least five women whom I could see as a fan's favorite.

There is no simple answer to why Medvedeva has never become an idol in Russia.
Some Russian fans have been blaming her for becoming Tutberidze's favorite child in place of Julia.
There has been also a nationalistic sentiment in Russian forums because of the fact that Evgenia is not 100% ethnically Russian. She is half Armenian and has been subjected to a lot of bullying on social media sites because of that.
Medvedeva is not very outgoing (compared to let's say Radionova) and I think she may have been not very successful in promoting her own popularity among Russians. (That being said, she is extremely popular in Japan because of her love for anime)
I also think that Medvedeva's image on ice is not as sensual as Radionova's, Pogorilaya's, or even Tuktamysheva's. As we all know, it is much easier for a female skater (as well as any other female performer) to sell a more sexualized image of herself. So Medvedeva may be losing some votes in that area too.

That is most definitely not a reason for her lack of popularity. Yulia Lip is the absolute darling of Russia and she anything but sexual during her peak in 2013-14. Also, Anna P is an extremely beautiful and mature women yet her popularity in Russia is really lacking compared to her teammates.

Some skaters just resonate with people and regardless of future results, I think Yulia will always be the star amongst Russians.

The girl with opening mouse. She is like a girl from Twilight. And she always has the same emotions... She is just boring to watch.

Really medvedeva is not that popular in Russia?and to think she's the it girl now..

Oftentimes people's favorites have nothing to do with who is the "it" girl or whatever. It seems like Evgenia is probably still somewhat in the position of an "upstart" like Tara Lipinski or Sasha Cohen and people are upset that their faves like Yulia or Michelle Kwan have been "replaced" at the top. Meanwhile Anna P. is like a Nicole Bobek who is actually making the most of her potential and talent (unlike the actual Nicole Bobek did).
