Elena Ilinykh & Ruslan Zhiganshin

Well the fed is dumping them I think for the obvious reason...They did skate better today than S/K and even S/B. It is unfair that judges prefer a certain body type but it is Russian Nats and it's bound to happen.

I'm so tired of the underhanded body shaming, especially in this fan thread. But, I suppose, all the more reason to consider skating for another country. Other disciplines have had breakthrough stars from non-powerhouse countries (Ten and Tsurnbaeva from Kazakhstan, Javier Fernandez of course!), so why not Elena and Ruslan? If the Russian fed doesn't want them, they should let them go instead of holding them down!

You know, I'm gonna talk about the skate because the rest is just too depressing:

This was their best skate in a LONG time, actually maybe ever (which is fine since they are such a new team) and I think they should be delighted and proud about how they skated. The smile on Elena's face after they hit the twizzles was the most real smile I've ever seen her give in a competition and throughout the dance they seemed really into it and to be genuinely enjoying themselves. They both had lots of energy and came prepared and in good shape, everything was very smooth and precise, and they really set a mood and went with it. I loved watching it, it made me happy.

Madison could you please leave this tread. We are well aware you hate Elena and talk bad things about IZ and belittle their work in every opportunity and in every topic and after every positive comment in the ID tread today. You are so obvious. If I didn't respect the work of all the skaters I would start speaking bulshits about your favourite teams the same way you do about IZ. Get a life. This is a fan place not a place to show how much you dislake IZ

The shape your body is in is a clear sign of how well you are training. It's one thing to be "big" but sporting a six pack and rock hard arms. It's another to look soft and flabby.

I know some of you think fan threads should all be about gushing and blaming other skaters. But the fact is, Elena and Ruslan were given a lot of money to train in the US with the best technical coach. It may not have come from the federation but they still had the money to do it. But before they are again given money, they should first learn to be responsible with it. It's clear the rumors coming from someone close to Novi were true: that Elena simply wasnt training hard. It wasn't just Vaitsekhovskaya talking about weight gain, but other foreign correspondents who were visiting the US.

What should poor madison do? Russian nationals event thread have only 6 pages and general dance threads is empty today too. I don't know why all of ice dance fans in here but I like it.

I presented some facts: that SK scored better than IZ at GPF events and my opinions. This doesn't mean that I hate Elena or someone else. The fact is I really appreciate her star quality and diva kind of being on ice, but I also see the minuses... and indeed one of them is the fact that IZ didn't progress from their first year together, but on the contrary. Also I would like to point out that, at the time when IZ showed good skating (their first year), the Federation supported them. I understand that for the majority of Elena's fans she is a victim of Katsalapov, of bad men, of Russian Federation, of us all who also see the minuses, but the truth is that IZ results depend majorly only on their hard or not so hard work.

They make me happy too :) Even with feeling disappointed about scoring, I don't think I've ever watched a performance of theirs that I haven't truly enjoyed, and that's a special quality they should be very proud of! :hap10:

If this post is OK on fan threads I'm going to Sinitsina/Katsalapov thread now. :) I can be more creative believe me :)

And I think you are hilarious. Your comments speak tons about what person you are. Go and support your fave couple. Everybody will be happy to have you as a fan.

Anyway, I hope that IZ can have another great performance tomorrow, not for the judges or the Russian Fed, but for themselves.

i see that your comments are more about me than about your favorites, IZ. I feel really flattered ;;).

Yes, I pay so much attention to you because the haters and the ill mannered have to be recognized so they can be avoided or bashed. When you grow up you will understand that if you like a team you should support it and not talk bad things about their rivals.

So please avoid my comments!

Me too! And I hope they know how many of us are rooting for them and how beloved they've become in such a short time.

Obviously, audience loved them too! I also hope, that if nothing else, they will skate the best for their fans :) I believe in karma in FS (like last season, when Chinese Fed didn't send Yu/Jin to Worlds, so in exchange, they lost 3rd spot in Pairs). Sooner or later it will get back to you. So if Fed want to dump I/Z, I'm sure they will pay for it in the future.

God, I'd love to be flabby if it meant I looked like Lena. :sarcasm:

She's never going to have long legs like Sinitsina or Stepanova, but at least she knows how to bend her knees.

If having long legs is a prerequisite to success in ice dance, Kaitlyn Weaver would be multiple World and Olympic champion by now. And let`s just look at Davis/White, I certainly wasn`t a fan of them, but they also weren`t long-legged and won everything in ice dance, while Weaver/Poje are still chasing their first World title. I think every ice dance fan has different reasons why he/she preferres one team over the other. For me, I need a team that can make me cry and laugh with their programs, that is emotional and passionate. Elena and Ruslan are the only Russian team capable of doing that.

Some excellent photos from the open practice:

Federations can't hold skaters for long periods any more, they have to give a legitimate reason for not releasing a team, and it can't be "we don't want to". They'd have to sit out a year from their last international competition. So if they switched now, they could compete again from the end of November 2017. But they couldn't go to then Olympics, because you can't have represented another country within 3 years of the games. Plus of course they'd need citizenship for the Olympics.
Oh, so now a situation like with Zahorsky and Massot couldn’t happen? If they could indeed go anywhere, except OG, from November of next year, they should definitely switch feds as soon as possible.

Anyway, I hope that IZ can have another great performance tomorrow, not for the judges or the Russian Fed, but for themselves.
Yes, and for their fans, and to make a laughing stock of Rus Fed if they’re still in 4th overall tomorrow.

Rus Fed already got their karma last year when their chosen teams finished 10th and 11th. They’ll get it again in Helsinki, and in Korea, and so on, but it won’t help IZ. Nor would it make Rus Fed mend their ways anymore than the rout last year did. They’re thoroughly corrupt, and it’s not about the placements for them, it’s all about money and nepotism. The one thing IZ could possibly do is go over the fed’s head to the Minister of Sports, although if Rus Fed can’t hold on to them beyond November of 2017, I wouldn’t bother with it at all, if I were them. They only supported IZ during their first year when Soloviev was out with an injury, and nobody knew if he’d be able to skate competitively again. The only reason IZ get lower scores internationally now than the other Russian ID teams is because Rus Fed actually supports its other teams.
