Many many congrats to Shoma for his winning very first National title, which is well deserved! :hap93::hap93::hap93:
Shoma is such a fighter on ice, and a sweeeeet boy off ice!

:yahoo::ghug: And VERY MERRY CHRISTMAS to YOU ALL :ghug::yahoo:

Hearing Daisuke's comments during the broadcast is a priceless Xmas gift to me. :luv17:

Impressive comments

About the reason of his tears.
He failed the combo at SP which he’d practiced until then and couldn’t change his mind at FS and again failed the combo.
But he could get 3 combo from 3 ax and 3S3T combo. he could prove that what he’d done was not waste. The thing made him so happy and it’s the reason of his tears

(At another interview after the performance), he said the reason of tears is that he felt relieved that he didn’t have the way of ending as Worlds (Boston). Anyway, he felt a strong sense of achievement fors getting the result of his practice. (My thought: He says again and again what’s most regrettable at competition is that he can’t do what he’s done at practices. It’s the feeling which he felt strongly at Worlds. ))

About last 3S3T, when adding 3T, he heard Higuchi’s voice “Go!”?

He was trying 3S alone at that time. He had no confidence and didn’t have speed. But his eyes caught Higuchi sensei right before the jump and heard her voice in landing. He felt he should try, and actually he got it. He’s satisfied with that.

----------------------
Further, he says he felt the difficulty of the adjustments for each competition. At some competition, his performance doesn’t go well although his condition is good. At some competition, his performance goes well although his condition is bad. He keeps his effort to increase the number of success as much as possible.

Agree! His comments were warm and to the point! He also works at ladies! Further, the job as an interviewer must be difficult, but he’s doing well. He has the eyes as a skater also unlike an announcer, which makes his interview more considerate and interesting. Anyway, he seemed so impressed with shoma today!

Further, about pressure, he says he didn’t feel it at the both SP and FP. But he laughs to say that it couldn’t be believed since he’d failed the jumps!

You are right… Today, I was so angry with the critisism and argued back and in vain… it’s very useless. I got a precious lesson. Talking about figure skating in GS is fun, but I don’t know anyone comes here and each personality. I must be careful in the future! :drama:

I'm sure all skaters wish they could just wave a magic wand and their flaws would disappear! But reading the same criticisms gets boring after awhile. I have enough people to argue with in my daily life. I guess I figure I don't need to come here and do it too!... But echoing kornkorn's thought, thank you to everyone for all the interesting stuff that you post and for everyone's kindness. I know if I didn't come to this thread, I wouldn't be able to find out even half of the interesting stuff I've read about Shoma. Translations in many languages, photos, newsclips, etc.

And one of my favorites is STILL that one you posted about Japanese bathrooms, Hamaguri! :) :scard7:

You have a sensitive spirit nothing wrong with that. :ghug:

I don't know how long you have been a skating fan but when you have been a fan as long as I have (I have had a lot of favorites over the years) believe me
I have heard just about every kind of criticisms there is. Back in the day I would get into flame wars with the best of them. I have learned from those experiences
that it is not worth my time and energy. Skating is a sport that I enjoy and I realize that criticism is part of that sport but I let it roll off because it really has
nothing to do with me personally. I like who I like and that is the bottom line for me.

I second this one, some of it with skating, and some of it with other fandoms in the past. It's just not worth the energy because what will be will be regardless of what we argue about. It's just annoying for me because the top 2 from Japan are my top 2 favorites of skating period right now so I can't really escape the saltiness. All we can know for sure is both will keep working hard and it will depend on who brings their best that day.

I'm just so very happy for Shoma. Congrats on being National Champion! :yahoo::hap10::yahoo::hap10::yahoo::hap10: I've just had a feeling about him all season long that he was in for some major success and that included Nats. I haven't watched his skate yet but after I go out and do some last minute christmas eve grocery shopping I will!

Congrats to the new Japanese champion!

He is a very self-aware and hard working young man who deserves this. And that stsq... :luv17: Good for him! :yahoo:

Tomorrow, right after Ladies FP, the announcement about Worlds and 4CC members (now it’s my biggest concern… if JSF will send him to Asian games? Oh, nooooo!) will be done. After that, the members will appear on TV at live! Im looking forward to seeing him!

At least we know we'll see him at Worlds (barring any unforeseen circumstances). It should be very exciting...Merry Christmas. You are a brave person to go to the grocery store! :)

I know Shoma has many flaws. I know that they are still present. I know that the judges trend to overscore him at times. Many times I agree with those pointing at his flaws. But despite all of that, I find Shoma to be a brilliant and complete skater that truly has a big presence on ice and he manages to land his jumps and not to injure himself and to get more difficult choreo, he'll be unstoppable. Wish you lots of luck Shoma! :thank:

I think Shoma is showing at this point in his career that: 1) He has a lot of great skills, 2) He can compete well, and 3) He has some weak areas but certainly the potential to improve over the next couple of seasons. I just hope that Shoma stays healthy - I'm already nervous about Hanyu and what his body can handle.

Congrats to Shoma - not only for winning Nationals, but for proving that he will do well at Worlds and 4CCs (if he wants to go - I can see him skipping for more training time).

Shoma ilu!! He did so great! Seeing him cry always makes me want to stab myself but since it was tears of joy it was ok. It was not perfect but it was completely well enough and it was a performance of character and strong will!

merry christmas to all here :ghug:

YES Daphenaxa! Merry Christmas to you and to everyone on Golden Skate!

Well done, Shoma! Today you were indeed, numero UNO!!! I think he felt enormous pressure this week. People can be critical of his technique etc., but I just enjoy watching him skate his wonderful long program... I love the intensity of his performance, how he really wants to hit every note... I think he is a great performer with a great future, who will only improve with time (I just worry about those poor knees of his!!!).

In the press con, Shoma revealed that he didn't intend to add 3t to his 3s but he heard coach Higuchi yelled and urged him to attack, so he felt that he should do more then added a 3t. Very nice to see the bond between them!

That's the spirit hamaguri. I have a hard time with this, and I know I should let it go. *sigh*

I feel you. Some comments out there are not kind criticisms. They are harsh and mean and obviously from people who detest the skater as a person. I've seen some go to the extreme to attack the skater's character and ethic. When comments get personal, I would just ignore them. I know our skater is going to grow and improve and will always make us proud of him.

By the way, does anyone have the ceremony video link?

The great thing is that he is improving. Just compare last years GPF free with this years GPF free. He got so much better in one short year, it's amazing. If he continues to improve at this rate...wow.

Shoma and Mura were chosen from the men. Phew, no Yuzuru.

I came to here, mikaboo!
Tell me. Shoma must go to Asian game as well as 4cC? why JSF did such a stupid? Satoko is OK, since ladies technical level is much low compared with men. But shoma must continue the competitions? How about his schedule? I didnt want him to win at Nationals!:hopelessness:

I think JSF announced recently (the same day as Yuzuru's WD from Nats was announced?) that the winners of Nats must compete at AWG. So Satoko, Shoma, Kana/Chris must compete there. I think Sumire/Francis are replaced by Narumi/Ryo because Francis isn't Japanese. The schedule will be tough for them, but at least 4CC is before AWG so they don't have to take it too seriously (I hope there is no pressure on them). I don't know why but I've been seeing people say that it's because Sapporo is Seiko Hashimoto's home town so she wants the top skaters there or something like that :frown:

Oh...
I must be positive. Japanese people like the event like that as we seen in Olympics. It's the chance for him to get popular in Japan other than skating fans!
