Elena Ilinykh & Ruslan Zhiganshin

I thought athletes need to be students to participate?

Merry Christmas to all Ruslena fans, btw! :)

Yeah I think usually athletes are enrolled as distance learning students or something. Like radionova and Liza are also being sent, and how the artistic gymnasts were sent in 2013 although none of them were enrolled I'm traditional classes. If anybody knows more about this please feel free to clarify 😊

NOOOOOOO!!!!!! And to be beaten by Nikita and his partner by such a small fraction.

I hope they manage the team next year. :sad4:

By the way, can anyone tell me how many spaces the Russians have in Dance for this year's World's?

They have two. Let`s hope they can get the third spot back this year.

I hope they don't go. Why for. To lose a month preparation for the new season so they have equal start with SK again. They better start preparing for the new season. Actually they better start working on country change. It is more than obvious that they will not receive any support. Why should they represent Russia if the Fed does not want them to. This year was worst than last. I blame IZ for the random fall in France and the giving Fed excuse of getting rid of them and Igor for not being enough involved with their preparation before the test skates. I am sure their season preparation was slowed down because of the coach changes. But the redicolous scores at the nationals were the top. It was not competition but a circus. It was obvious last year that they are not wanted and now it is just cemented. I am sure they will not switch. I just now hope they made better song and program choices for the next year. Start the season early so they can change any element like the stupid lift from SA in advance. Also thank you Elena for being brave enough and call the problem with it's real name hypocrisy and politics.

They are the first reserve for Europeans and have to keep training their programs anyway. Maybe it will give them some confidence back.
I know that Bazarova/Deputat weren`t allowed to switch, but Elena has ties to Kazakhstan, maybe that could play a role?

They should stay put. Ice is slippery and they're still young. Just a bit longer.

A point deduction for costume malfunction???

Oh, ffs... just... well....

take the jewelry and decorations off... not the first time this has happened to IZ (or IK)... the chances of getting a deduction because something has fallen on the ice are significantly higher than the benefit you will receive from wowing the judges with accessories.

At first someone had commented it was a lift deduction (I didn't watch live). I wouldn't have been thrilled, but would have felt better about them being 4th than due to a wardrobe malfunction!!

Headache...

I wouldn't bother too much about that. The malfunction barely gave the opportunity to the judges to use it as an excuse, IMO.

Yeah they should have been at least clearly two points ahead of them after the SD. But say what, I really enjoyed all their performances, especially their EX. Ruslan is just such a sweet prince of a man, I hope they play that up going forwards.

I would love to see them work with Rohene and Najarro for the next season on their programs.

I would like Najarro and Vlasova.

Me too. Vlasova's choreo is always fantastic, she's worked with Elena before and I really want to see them doing a ballet inspired program. It will help them really work on refinement and the more subtle partnering style would suit Ruslan. I want Manon or Sylvia.

I'm so sad at the news of their going to this students' competition thing, because it seems to imply that they are not thinking about switching feds. As long as they skate for this one, it doesn't matter how many places it has - if it doesn't want to send them to Euros, it won't send them to OG or Worlds either.

I watched their Ex without sound - the first time ever I did this - because I can't stand hearing the voice of that lying, hypocritical, self-important excuse of a human being, even more than I can stand chatter during performances in general.

.

All this talk of changing Feds is quite silly, as there is no way the Russian Fed is ever going to release an Olympic Champion :(

It is much harder for a federation to hold a skater now than it was previously - I can't find the exact release but the presumption is now if a skater asks for a release they get it, and the federation can't just hold on to them for no reason, and you can't end up in a situation like Zahorski. it hasn't been fully tested yet with a federation refusing to release a skater, but I don't think theyd have much of a case claiming I/Z are essential to the health of ice dance in Russia when they haven't been on a World or European team for 2 years. And with Elena, if they did want to switch to Kazakhstan, it's a much stronger case because it's the country she was born in & can already claim citizenship for.

But I'm in two minds about switching - finance could become a problem, at least in Russia they are getting the state funding, even if it's not enough any more to go abroad for training. And yes, they'll probably be off the Olympic team next year (although, if B/S & S/B can somehow get 3 spots back, they still have a shot at it - without the freak costume deduction they would have been 3rd despite the best efforts of the judges with the PCS & GOE, & they have been showing a much stronger technical base than S/K this year, plus we all know S/K are completely volatile in other areas, so who knows what or where they will be next year...). But after 2018, B/S will in all likelihood retire. And who is really coming up after them to challenge? Z/G don't have the basic quality. L/D are good at their level, but he at least is old for juniors - it's like Mc/C & the Parsons, ok you're winning everything at that level, but there are already teams younger than you doing better in seniors. Shpilevaya/Smirnov are OK, but again, nothing special that makes me think they'd be any more impressive than Y/M or H/B were on their junior debut. Then there's a bunch of younger teams like S/A, S/E, P/V, who are decent, but not blowing the world away, and they have to get through growing, deciding to stick with skating as a career, having a good enough relationship (or just no idiot guys like Mozgov) that they don't end up splitting. There is no one like V/M or I/K or P/C or the Shibs that people point to in juniors and say "they definitely have the potential to win senior championship medals". The transition from junior to seniors is HARD, and a lot of teams fall apart for a variety of reasons on the way. Which is a long winded way of saying that after 2018 I still think there is a lot of opportunity for I/Z to take in Russia. And yes there are positives to being the only team repping one country, but there's also a lot of benefits that come from repping a skating power like Russia.

I loved their ex today. So nice to finally have a proper gala program & they still looked really upbeat performing it after everything :)

Lena, never, ever gives the trolls the satisfaction.

I loved the feel of that EX, I really hope their future choreographers are taking note especially of that first minute. They are so versatile. :luv17:

I love Vlasova too, and I am with Uhh on changing Fed. It can be good or bad, both ways, but maybe better stick with Russia and just train hard and be the best is the answer.

By the way, I'm out of the loop, what happened with Y&M?:scratch2:
