This is the scoop from a major TV channel in Thailand covering about Yuzuru and the recent popularity of Figure skating.

Summary: Yuzuru is a lovely young male skater who despite being the best in the world, enjoys Pooh's company. (Sentiment: very positive)

Music, movement as if dancing, and sparkling costumes are the clearest representation of Figure Skating. Today, however, Figure Skating is no longer just pretty girls in frills but also young male skater with a great smile. Yuzuru Hanyu, 22 years-old from Sendai, is the 2014 Winter Olympic Gold Medalist and the best [No.1] in this sport.

An example of **Hanyu-kun's beautiful strength is the quadruple jumps which snatch the hearts of fans worldwide; especially in his home nation where Figure Skating is among the most popular sports and he is celebrated as a major public figure.

**The reporter kept saying Hanyu-kun very casually as if they were close haha. My explanation would be that Thai people are well-exposed to Japanese culture to the point that they add -kun, -san, out of habit. Maybe it sounds appropriate to the journalist because it's Yuzuru? Well, he's cute?**

Hanyu-kun has participated in several commercials where he can be seen working with top teen celebrities. He has been on the cover of the magazines and once in a period movie where he played the young master.

And the reason for the latest ‘Figure Skating Fever’ is none other than the animation ‘Yuri on Ice’ which is very popular at the moment.

Aside from that, a lovely young man like him also takes a liking to Pooh, his good companion who travels alongside him everywhere. One time, fans showed their appreciation by throwing an “army” of Pooh all over the rink. What an adorable young man!

The most praiseworthy quality about him is his fighting spirit in a competition in China. During the warmups, he was about to jump but unfortunately crashed with the Chinese skater, resulted in injured jaw and skull. The concussion left him knocked down on the ice. He nevertheless returned to the rink with stitches and fought till the end. He then returned home like a hero.

P.S. I know that Yuri On Ice is a sensitive topic in this group but please ignore. The media only covers what's obvious to them. It's no denying that YOI has made a large impact to the popularity of Figure Skating especially in Thailand since there is a Thai character in the animation.

In all honestly so am i, the only weird fixation i have is men's hair and only if it's long and well kept
Is just that... Is so in your face sometimes this kid knows exactly what he's doing, i can't be convinced otherwise!

I guess so. He knows he has to be sexy for the part. Though I like his kind of sexiness - not a male stripper type, but more of a dominant and powerful 'you-can't-really'resist-me' type.
Gosh, and I'm old enough to be his mother... yet I'm carried away. No, I'm not gross!

Maybe is not that he is sexy (seriously, how can you consider a 22yo man who carries Winnie Pooh around sexy ) as i find him more adorable when he is off the ice, but as soon as he steps on it, he gets that "dominant and powerful" vibe you said, it feels to me more like he knows he is near-unbeatable, and that many skaters would want to have his off days

I found Yuzu's segment, but I distinctly remember seeing one where he kept looking over (?) during Hino + Tanaka's segment and then was invited back. Couldn't for my life find it anymore and it's driving me crazy!

I didn't see it live so it must have been a video clip somewhere :think:

You nailed it. He is pure light to me. Of course light casts shadows but for the most part, he is light.

I mean, all of those incredibly seductive looks that were impromptu/caught on camera/mentioned by people who were onsite? I think you must know you're sexy in order to pull that off. And all of those screaming female fans following him everywhere probably helps, too I'm just amazed he can stay so modest...

One of the things I love most about him is that he doesn't try to take advantage of or take for granted his popularity/sex appeal even knowing that as a figure skater, fame tends to be more fleeting (compared to other types of artists). He's so modest, it's sometimes easy to forget how many fans and how much power he has.

Isn’t it a scene from Akiko’s room part one aired live on NHK BS1 right before the beginning of the EX? At the end of Ryuju & Keiji segment, you can find the scene where Yuzu comes back. If this is not the footage you are looking for, sorry in advance.

I'm just like :gaah: there are NO similarities, and they have diametrically opposite personalities. the only similarity is... having lots of fans and being well-known in their respective fields...but not even for the same reason tbh

There's nothing wrong about being a Hanyu victim, no matter your age. Watch NHK's gala again: When Yuzu threw a kiss at the audience on his LGC encore, it was mostly older women and they all got swept by an invisible wave that made very visible ripples

Probably because the reactions he causes in his fans i mean, Brian did say that they frequently got lots of japanese tourists trying to get into TCC to stalk him
I am a bit crazy about him but i would definitely not go to Canada in hopes of finding him/stalk him at TCC i'd rather go and watch him skate in a competition

Seriously, yeah I think he does know and it's good, I mean it's a good thing being self-aware but on the other hand, as narcissa says he has remained modest in the face of that and all his fame and power he has. Frankly, that's the lethal combination, fruit and a wonderful personality, that frankly I think most people mention way more often actually.

I don't think anyone should apologize about that i guess it means that he's doing his job properly
I have watched that Crazy Swan way too much, and i always laugh at the part of the kiss, the fact that it was probably improvised makes it even better, like he was so caught up in the energy and thought "oh well, i'll give them what they want"
He could be a literal potato on skates and i would still love him as much as i do now because of his personality and hard work.

Edit: i read this again and when i got to the part where i wrote "oh well, i'll give them what they want" i swear i imagined him saying that in english with that adorable high pitched voice he does when he switches languages like that video where they ask him about his favorite jumps

Oh, I'm not really apologetic. In my mind I'm always 20 - and he just makes it more real. I feel the same excitement and zest for life whenever I see him perform.
