Javier Fernandez

Thanks Eppen! It was amusing to picture Brian urging him back to training because Javi said he wanted to stay in Spain until Jan. 4th but Brian said there was no way he was going to do thta and he should be back by Jan. 1st  You'll have lots of time to rest in the off season, Javi. Don't worry.

Poor Brian has had to do that before, also, I think... But I do hope Javi gets a few days of rest after today for the holidays!!

A 2015 news story on minority sports in Spain cropped up (Javi in the first part mostly): https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=TGGWRDOq-1I

Javi features also quite a lot in the ShibSibs Grand Prix Final Vlog: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=mHJG9xG_j_A

Edit: added some Xmas messages from Javi

For the readers of Sportium magazine: https://twitter.com/sportium/status/812221254988087296?lang=fi
And for the people at Jaca where he is toninght performing at the Spanish gala: https://twitter.com/cope_jaca/status/812361824221990912?lang=fi

Btw. I'm glad Brian is urging Javi back to training, does he realizes how many skaters want to suprass him? Work, Javi work! I want you to get that Olympic medal!

Second!!!

And this year he might actually have to make an effort to win the Europeans ;-) Well, at least if Kolyada puts in a similar performance as in the Russian nationals... So, back to work asap after the holidays (and the show)!

Yes, I think so too. Not that Kolyada or Kovtun will be such threat, but because Javi´s own condition is anything but good. Way too many distractions and way too little of training!!! On the other hand sometimes we need to face the consequences to be able to learn something, :disapp:. But maybe Javi already learned something from losing the GPF medal....?

And last night it was back to work, a radio interview: http://www.cope.es/player/El-patina...rtidazo-de-COPE&id=2016122623400001&activo=12 (And Anna Cappellini posted a pic at the beginning of her trip from Italy to Spain: https://www.instagram.com/p/BOeXkvlBifL/?tagged=javierfernandez)

I don't think there's really nothing wrong with Javi's condition as such - the dip in Marseille was more mental than physical IMO. The fact that they decided to repeat the SP means that he has had to learn only one new program = less time needed for just getting the basics ready. The Japan-Madrid tourism thing certainly took a week of his training time, but that could have happend also with a minor injury or some such thing (like new boots not working well).

In the spring, he had the two-week Art on Ice tour between the Euros and the Worlds AND nursed an injury after that (not the heel, but the other one). What he said in the press after SP in Marseille about the SP going well in practice and still not working in competition rings true. IMO, he let that feeling of frustration and disappointment in control and consequently could not handle the pressure in the FS... Skating is a confidence sport almost more than anything else and if you don't have the confidence (for whatever reason), it's more difficult to do well...

I hope that the good SP in the nationals is followed by an ever better one in the Euros and a perfect one comes when he really needs it in the Worlds :)

This year, Kolyada and Kovtun are not a threat to Javi yet. He only need to skate like TDF and he will be ok at European.

The FB live was cancelled AFTER it was supposedly already over... But as a consolation a little video on getting dressed as Santa: https://twitter.com/tve_tve/status/813826291690393600

Sold out!: https://www.marcaentradas.com/eventos/ficha/3124-entradas-revolution-ice-madrid

It will be transmitted not by only Gol in Spain, but apparently also by ESPN and/or Eurosport (can't remember all the details)... And that will increase chances of getting glimpses of the show at least. They have quite a few sponsors and have also sold TV rights, so I hope they are able to generate profit and not just make the cost... There are quite a few musical artists in addition to the skaters as well as all other personnel plus all other cost o take care of. The tic revenue is hard to calculate, but if there were say 8000 seats and the medium pay/viewer is perhaps 40-50 euro (the range of tic prices was from 25 to 95 with most seats going btw 35-55) so MAYBE around 320 000/400 000 eur. Which may sound a lot, but salaries have to get paid, materials, venue rents, etc. etc. etc.

400 000 is definitely not a lot, if you have to pay so many artists & skaters. I hope they got good deal for TV rights and that there was actually more seats than 8,000 available.

I wonder how much does this compare to Miss Kostner's show? I have heard that her shows have been quite successful over the years.

Carolina does quite a lot of shows, but I guess you mean Opera/Intimissimi on Ice? It's organized in Verona with a major commercial sponsor (Intimissimi is a big lingerie brand here in Italy). The format has varied a bit over the years, but it is similar in that it is a one off (though annual for some time now). Seems to have been televised, but only in Italy. The usual timing in early fall is bad for me, otherwise might consider going next year...
