So cool. I have been watching the juniors but somehow missed the presentations... cool for javi. did not know he paid attention to hockey, but i guess while in toronto...
 
:roll5: Hopefully he at least now starts concentrating on his training for the Europeans, would be such a pity to lose that title after 4 consecutive wins.... It was wonderful that his show was such a great success!!! Next season (if he wishes to have at least a chance for a medal at the Olympics) no time for any distractions, maybe though for some very little ones that are necessary for his mind and don´t interrupt his training.

I'm not worried about Javi's outlook for Europeans for three reasons: he must have gotten a tremendous rush of energy from the success of his show; he is bound to be hungry to prove himself after the disappointment of the GPF; and his total score from the GPF after his worst performances in living memory are still higher than what anyone else from Europe has ever received. ;) Kolyada would need to skate foot perfect (including nailing the 4Lz) and still have to hope for a number of crucial mistakes from Javi to overtake him.

Also, I expect both Brian and Javi realize that he really needs to produce a clean 2 quad SP, which he still hasn't done, and will now be training the hell out of Malaguena. His SP has looked undertrained to me all season. My biggest hope for Europeans is that he finally pulls it off, so the pressure of that elusive clean SP will be off by Worlds.

He doesn't need to be in top condition for Europeans, though perhaps better than a couple of years ago now that Mikhail has put himself back on the map with Russian Nationals. I also think their focus now should be working in the SP, he's delivered close to clean FS this season, but the SP is proving to be difficult. And it would be a confidence booster to at least get one clean SP in competition before Worlds.

Love this YES/NO. Certainly sounds like he won't be jumping out of an airplane anytime soon. At least not by the look in his eyes when they ask him. :eeking:

Didn't have time to listen to the whole Spanish interview but will come back to it. Love that he has more titles than the Duquesa de Alba! :rofl: ... He is such a charmer and has the nicest personality!
 
Malaguena is a masterpiece, but I've been disappointed in its lack of sparkle this year. I wish Javi had gotten a new SP this season and brought it back next year for the Olympics.
 
Let's see if after Christmas he is more relaxed and bring it back with more sparkle in Europeans :biggrin:

He knew that he will have a busy 1st half of the 2016/2017 season and this may be a reason why he didn't want to have a new SP. Malaguena has remained but it looks as if he didn't put enough emphasis on practise that enough so far. The program itself is indeed a masterpiece but it isn't well pracised (yet) and it doesn't have that sparkle that had the last season. I also miss the costume + his beard from last season! :biggrin: For me, itt added a bit of extra to this special program. The black costume of this season is a bit simplistic for me to this kind of music...

I agree, last season's costume definitely helped put the finishing touches to the Malagueña program and brought it to life almost. Although this season's costume is simple yet effective it does lack that "something" and it doesn't really contribute that much to the program. This was especially obvious in the GPF when Patrick Chan skated straight after Javier wearing a similar costume (to The Beatles music) and for me this costume style was more suited to Chan's music, a huge contrast to Malagueña.

But who knows, maybe like many other skaters he'll undergo a costume change in this second part of the season; or he may like to stay in what he's comfortable in.
 
I actually prefer the black costume, but I liked last year's too. Maybe he was thinking that if they were keeping the SP, then they had to go totally different for the costume... and maybe the idea was to let the skating speak for itself, ie. less is more. However, the skating is not speaking for itself so far so I guess we'll see what happens at Euros.

This is just amazing what he has achieved so far. 10 ice rink in a country with 45 millions inhabitants - is like nothing! :eeking:

I remember watching him the first time some time around 2008 or 2009 and I thought, woooaa, a Spanish male skater, what a surprise!

I am really happy for his success and wish him all the best at the European Championships.

Well, Poland is a 38 mln people and much colder country than Spain and we have only 15 Ice rinks that are available all year... And we had World and European medalists in the past in FS and we still have some succes in Short Track and Speed Skating. So the number of ice rinks in Spain that is super warm country makes no impression on me :p At least Spain have excuse for being like that! And rather than lack of Ice rinks, it's more about winter sport being so little popular in Spain, there weren't high level coaches probably too. He's just true exception of Spain which is great in many summer sports, but not winter ones :)
