Mr. Chartrand, as some of us call him over at the Canadian thread was on the ice... Bennet is a very nice skater.. He has a lot of masculinity and elegance... Alaine certainly has good taste. He is skating to Beethoven.... As you know, I am very picky about music and capacity of skaters to interpret music... Who can skate to Beethoven... very few... Bennet can... I felt badly for him that he didn't land perfectly his 4S but he did the triple axels well... i saw him at ACI in the fall and since them, I am a fan... I do hope he keeps developing but of course, considering he is Canadian, even if he also attempts a 4T and his 3A is his money jump... he will need to be much more consistent to climb the ladder.
Edrian Paul Celestino... I will always have a soft spot for him. He is super smiley in person and our time spent in a line up where he ordered a poutine after winning the junior ACI in the fall was special.. I didn't know who he was...He was about my height 5"11, and joking around and goofing around... and then i saw him on youtube... haha... and understood... a figure skater going for a poutine? bonus points... I have the impression that he is struggling with some of his jumps from his growth spurt.. but i never followed him before so i have no idea if he were more consistent.
Here is what I liked about his skating : BEAUTIFUL opening.. this dude reminds me a bit of Patrick as his movements embrace the musical line... bad fall.. .nice 3-3... what I loved the most was his use of his height in his skating... in the footwork.. some high kicks but not too many... some lunges... it's very cool to see a skater who brings such "texture" on the ice.... some of the previous shorter skaters were so down into the ice... some of the other taller skaters didn't use that kind of advantage... While I was writing this : 4 seasons flashbacks in the music... i wonder if he had anything to do with that, and if it has anything to do with perhaps being a fan of patrick? Again, he is not at patrick's level in skating skills.. nobody is... but i appreciate what he tried to create on the ice.
PLEASE : get your jumps...
Mitchell Gordon... good triple axel.. no quads... no repeat of the 3axel... reminds me of a bunch of skaters like ross miner ... well.... nice all around... nothing really special apart from the eagles into the 3loop.
KEEGAN... i told the ladies next to me about ACI when he had a laces issue... and I said... he is FAST... and he had to lost a minute and he managed to put in all the jumps at the end by skating like he was on amphetamines... well
BANG beautiful 4toe... super fast footwork... super super fast spins.... the crowd goes nuts... we stand up... he redeemed himself... all i want is that he gets rewarded because why should he not be rewarded??? well.. he is.. but the score could be a tad higher.. it's good enough though we hope... the lady who has been scoring the ladies earlier turns to me and says... this one was tough to mark..." thank goodness I didn't have to enter the scores in the computer and just on my paper because counting the number of time he turns those spins is a challenge already... I am sure he met the requirements and surpassed them by far ... "
awww Roman... I so want to love you... so want... badly to love you... but first, please, finish transitioning into your new body... you do look a bit awkward.... good attempt on the 4S... huge lean on the 3A... so much potential... but i think he will come back better in a year or two.... IMHO he is not finished developing physically.... PLease no more tacky music...
warm up : so many close calls with crashes.. .tension... the ladies see patrick fall... and freak out... and I say.. okay... let's look at this warm up... and let's believe... 4t-2t..... 3a-3t..... 4s.. BANG... and i turn around and say... see... now i know... he has the jumps. I have seen them. textbook gorgeous jumps... with super height and straight air position.... and as he doesn't rotate as fast as some of the top quadsters, his jumps are even more impressive as we clearly see the 1234 turns... i love that... maybe some of you prefer the super fast turning that looks like a blur ... fair enough
Part two of report coming now...
