Ashley Wagner

So how high ar her chances not to reach the finals?

She's practically out but the ice is slippery. The battle for the last 3 spots are between Pogo, Satoko, Wakaba and Sotskova. She needs 2 of these skaters to under perform (i.e. Satoko/Wakaba finishing below 3rd, Sotskova below 4th, Pogo below 5th).

Well, not realistic that they all lose their nerves. Pogo was known to run amok 1-2 years ago, but she seems to have worked on that issue. She was pretty impressive at the Russian cup, btw.

Yes, I love Ashley but honestly, I think her chances of making the final this year are close to nothing. There is no realistic situation where she could do it. Best to just prepare for Nationals and be happy she doesn't have to try to have a peak for the GPF as well as for Nationals.

Ashley will go to Nationals with fire in her belly now. Would have loved to see her make the GPF.
I am sure she and Raph are going to hunker down and work on her landing technique so she doesn't have to eat so many carrots. This is why these GP events are so important, they give a skater a chance to have a rough skate and then learn from it and work to improve.
I am still not a fan of the SP, but I love the energy and personality that Ashley brings to skating. She is a real gem.

Agreed, I wish she had kept "Hip Hip, Chin Chin" for another season, maybe freshening up the choreo. While I like the song "Sweet Dreams" (a favorite from my childhood), I don't like the remix nor the choreo for it.

Looking for her come out blazing at Nationals!

Wow, that is really surprising, but kinda thrilling too. This is showing Ashley's well-known drive and resilience. Get up, keep pushing forward.

It's a welcome chance to be sure we get to see Ashley compete at her usual number of competitions! More importantly, for her to demonstrate to herself and the international judges that she's a determined and happy skater!

Well, I missed seeing Ashley skate over this past week-end. :tantrum:

But I'm so proud of her for the way she keeps her options open and takes the time and trouble to figure out if her course of action is the best solution for her, or if she'd be better off taking another route. She isn't afraid :bow:to take a good look, know her own mind, and then change it if it's called for. I feel certain that this decision was the right one for her, because I trust her judgment.

I hope her not making the GPF won't affect her standing with the judges. I think -- and hope -- they're aware that anyone can have a bad day, and also that drawing Shin Amaro as tech caller at CoC disadvantaged her in relationship to some of her competitors who drew a caller who wasn't as strict. I also hope and believe that she'll have her confidence built up again by nationals and worlds; by that time CoC will be a blip on the radar in the rearview mirror.

I can't wait for nationals. Go, Diva Wagner! :cheer:

Ashley will come back stronger after this. She'll leave nothing to chance come Nationals and Worlds. She has the heart of a lion and I admire her so much for that. A true fighter our Diva is!

Fundraiser for Ashley Wagner & Adam Rippon

I am so proud of Ashley and Adam for having the courage to speak out against homophobia, xenophobia and misogyny. This can not be an easy thing to do in a judged sport such as figure skating. Although I usually limit my charitable giving to the Human Rights Campaign Fund and Polk County Democrats, this year I also want to recognize Adam and Ashley for their excellence and integrity.

I will be making a tax deductible donation of $2,000 to the "New England Amateur Skating Foundation, Inc." for the benefit of Ashley and Adam. I hope to present this check to them when I attend Nationals In Kansas City next month.

If any other board members would like to join me in this endeavor, please PM me prior to nationals. Hopefully, we could present our checks as a group.

Please note, the attached sponsor form needs to be completed as well to ensure that Ashley and Adam will get this training money. This is Adam's form; the name just needs to be changed to use it for Ashley. http://www.figureskatersonline.com/a...neasf-adam.doc

Surprised to realise how low in number the pages are for Ashley's thread.

....unless there's been more than one thread page like I've seen for some skaters....

Well, Gracie's fan fest is no difference. As the U.S. ladies threads are very active and new information on U.S. ladies are updated with new threads, fan fests for such skaters can be inactive regardless of their popularity and attention from the media and their devoted fans.

She is looking fairly strong in practice though I'm concerned about the missing triple-triples in the run through from yesterday. I also haven't heard that she is practicing the loop-1/2 loop-salchow combination. I'm hoping she pulls off a win here but I also have a gut feeling that someone unexpected is going to win this one.

Reposting my post in US ladies' thread. I'm so proud of Ashley. I'm elated!

She came out into an arena reverberating with echoes of Karen's magnificent skate.

And Ashley Wagner did her job. She kept her mind on her mission: to compete, to secure a spot on the Worlds team, and to captivate the crowd with her mesmerizing skating. She called on all her skating skills, painstakingly trained and tweaked and corrected over months and years. She gathered power within her, her own power, and did she draw on the electricity in the crowd? Only she can tell us. Ashley's skate was filled with all the emotions: love, pain, disappointment, and joy, to name a few. Her skating was glorious, lyrical, womanly, and transcendent.

We in the USA are so lucky to have Ashley representing our country. For ten years, she's had to endure the flack and nattering of critics who go on and on about URs, not being competitive with other countries or with [insert newest teen-age phenomenon's name]. She rises above it. She's like a phoenix every year, because every year she has to contend with yet another source of grumbling. She gets up and she gives us a show. Again and again and again.

Man, I hope this isn't an indicator that Ashley plans on wearing her hair half down again. She has lovely hair but it's so distracting.

I love this program with her hair down.

She looked pretty amazing last night and I hope she really brings it at worlds.

^^ So do I. That first costume, with its dark grey melding into light grey into silver, reminded me of sparkling rain on a day when bits of sunshine come through. Was it suggestive of a silver medal, do you think? Could Gracie changing hers to a gold dress have caused Ashley to re-think? Well, anyway, I like the new dress too; it's a great color of deep cranberry. Maybe someone on her team thought it looked better with her hair, which is darker now than when she wore the silver dress.
