Mao Asada

Here is one of my favorite photos of Mao. It is from Madame Butterfly at Worlds. https://i.ytimg.com/vi/zLHt8fsEwG4/maxresdefault.jpg

How much it reminds me of releasing all the emotions pent up inside and being set free of all constraints and systems to fly free if not for real at least in the imagination. This is what I think performance art should do, catapult one into another dimension. To me, Mao is the best at this and it is worth much more to me than any score no matter how astronomical because it transcends the dimensions of space and time.

Just spied on twitter from a certain @QuadAxel3Toe that Mao Asada will be at Bavarian Open 2017 and the 2017 Coupe du Printemps.

Has anyone else heard otherwise or to support this? Apparently it was from a German skating insider.

A part of me hopes this is true- because I've not had enough of Mao's freeskate.

As much as I would love for Mao to compete in a Senior B, I would love to see her just heal and take a breather. Ya know...just start fresh in the autumn. :slink:

I think stopping practices completely for longer time won't help either though :/ CdP is less than month before Worlds, I think it would be good for her to compete once again this season and finally put good skates, it would only help her. We don't know how is her body now, is her injury is gone etc. But I don't think she's going to compete and I'm actually ok with any her decision if she's going to, that means that she's feeling good, she wouldn't push herself for B-level events.

I hope she is enough healthy if she decides to compete, but I can't deny that I am excited about the possibility of see her again soon.

That's funny! I think about over a week ago from Japanese news and JSF the statement was that Mao will NOT participate in any of the international competitions for the rest of the season.

IIRC, the JSF should have sent out questionnaires to skaters to inquire their willingness to participate in B competitions. Possibly Mao didn't opt for any. And even though JSF might have checked again with her after Nationals, she still declined them. (On the other hand, it's quite interesting that JSF is sending competitors to all the singles' categories in BO2017, from senior down to novice, BUT NO senior ladies...there should be enough seniors to send to)

It's the same here that privately I just didn't get enough of Mao's FS this season, and as much as I hope she could compete again this season, but I am still content that if she can take some time off to get in her own pace.

And me too. Not just this season's FS... but the dazzling SP too, with that spectacular costume and that ponytail hair... and her exquisite exhibition too.

They are all at, or near, the top of my all-time favourite programs - by any skater, not just Mao. It's a tragedy that we couldn't see them more, or when Mao was fully fit.

My main hope for next season is that like my friends and family I have showed Mao's performances to that people will look at how Mao's future performances are able to move their emotions and inspire them with a great sense of beauty and filter out an evaluation of her based on scores and that Mao can be satisfied with her performances. She has always been on the cutting edge in her jump selection and her unique balletic execution of them, step sequences with such fluid and captivating dance moves which are such a natural expression of her soul whether they be jazz or ballet, prima ballerina spirals and even the execution of her spins and skating skills which emphasize great rink coverage, plentiful one legged and swaying movements and using her blades to build smooth, elegant and deceptive speed. And whether she has made mistakes or not, these qualities have not been rewarded properly in my eyes and in the opinion of those I have shown her performances to. And I want that to be remembered because she deserves better for her hard effort and rare talent. I trust Mao to choose the right programs because I wouldn't be on this journey I never intended to begin without her and she is leading the way and hopefully it will result in more legendary performances. I am already confident her future programs will be very beautiful and memorable.

I know I have probably posted this video earlier. but I forgot how much I love this performance. It passes through my mind like a fanciful dream drifting away on a summer breeze. I must say Mao is very rare and exceptional in moving my emotions and inspiring such a profound sense of beauty, especially from such a young age as she does here. My mind strays so far away from a mere competition like I am eavesdropping on a genuine expression of the soul that arose at that moment.

One of the most beautiful things I have ever seen. Every movement light, elegant, athletic, ethereal and so incredibly emotional as if an angel had descended to earth and every motion, extension and air-borne revolution was a moving sculpture of perfection. The subtle knee bends at the end of each jump are marvelous. Nostalgic wonder for childhood innocence gone by that made me cry.

Here is a 1080 copy of Mao's outstanding 2007 Worlds LP performance nearing its 10th anniversary which was uploaded recently. This performance is extra special for me because it was the first time I saw Mao's exceptionally beautiful, graceful and emotionally moving skating live on TV.
