Takahito Mura

Some interesting comments made by Taka after the AWG SP. Sounds like he felt rather "down" after Nationals. Don't worry Taka! You have many more days ahead of you. I'd like to see him tame down the jumps a bit and work on his spins for next year. Really enjoy his skating though!

Thanks for the link to interview :thank: I'm not suprised he felt down after Nationals. Last year he was Japanese no. 3, but then Japanese Men had only two spots at Worlds, and this season he's no.4 meaning it's another year when he misses the WC. And it's pre-Olympic season, so pretty important. But I strongly believe, that he can medal at AWG and next season be the one that gets Olympic spot :)

^^^Yes, let's hope for the best! I wish he would work on improving his spins. When I heard not too long ago that he was asking a teammate if he wanted to work on the 4A with him, all I could think of was "Forget the 4A for now! Concentrate on your spins!" Sometimes I think they do stuff like that out of boredom, but his time could be better spent. Also if he could tame his jumps down just a bit, hopefully he wouldn't hurt his ankle(s) so often! I give him a lot of credit though -- his perseverance in the shadow of teammates who get much more attention is very admirable. Also he seems like a genuinely nice guy!

Of course the burning question is (as always) -- what will his costumes be for next year?! :scratch2: :drama: :luv17:

Let's hope whatever it is, by the time of Japanese Nationals it will look at least proper :drama: I also hope he will keep his Sexy hair for next season :o:

The sexiest Japanese man has delivered today! :cheer: Too bad it wasn't enough to medal :sad21: But I think he has made a case for himself that he still got what it takes ot compete at Olympics :)

Congrats on two great skates Taka! He had my favourite set of performances at the AWGs! Shame it wasn't enough for a podium finish.

Really love this SP of Taka's. The steps are just so wonderful! This will be a tough act to follow next year. Wonder if there is any chance he will keep this program for next year. It is definitely a winner, as is he!

Agreed. Spanish style suits Takahito's very 'manly' skating with powerdul jumps. Nornally I don't like top skaters to repeat/keep the program for next season tbh, but would be a good choice for him to prepare FULLY for next season and more importantly J-Nats to sneak into the National team for Oly Games.

I second this. The program works so well for him and it didn't have enough opportunity to shine. It just fully came together on Friday for the first time. As we won't be seeing him again this season*, it would be really nice, if he keeps it. Going into next season with a program he already feels pretty comfortable with can work in his favour as he mostly got the hang of it now and can focus on fine-tuning the details.

I want to see him at the Olympics so badly, because it's more than unlikely he'll go for another Olympic Cycle. (Keiji could give it another shot in 2022, even though the competitive landscape is most certainly going to look vastly different again by then. :drama:)

* Edit: Oh, will he be at Coupe du Printemps? With Shoma also there, I'm seriously considering going now... :yay:

At least he's not the one being chased and the public pressure isn't on as much for him as for his teammates. In that respect it's most likely a mental advantage. The big question is - will he be assessed fairly next season? (especially his SS) :ohwell::dev2:

^^^I saw him at Sk Canada this past Oct., and he did a stellar job with the SP. It was very exciting live. As a matter of fact, in the SP he was second only to Patrick. The FS, :bang: now that was another story. He totally crashed and burned and came in 9th, ending up 8th overall. And it seemed that was the pattern for all year -- great in the SP, not so much in the FS. Anyway, loved both his programs this year and wouldn't mind if he kept either or both for next year.

Totally agree on the pressure aspect. There is definitely something to be said for "flying under the radar."

ETA Yes, you should go to C. du Printemps!!! Is that far for you?

Arghs, forgive me! The competition marathon and my resulting zombie-state mangled my brain. :palmf: It was the FS that finally came together then. My apologies to Daddy Mura!!! The rest of my sentiment still stands though. :)

Wow, I just checked train connections: it's 5 hours from Duisburg HBF to Kockelscheuer! Would have to change trains twice and then take the bus, because this comp is apparently held far from civilization! Approx. 3 hours by car. Don't wanna stay overnight. What to do? Seems like an excessive effort to get there...damn. :disapp:

The hair is good. The fringe on the SP costume -- not so much! I was always kind of hoping he would get rid of the fringe, but it made it through to the end of the season. Who knows what next year will bring! :luv17: You gotta love him though!

Coupe du Printemps has a few nice videos of Taka on their FB page. One of them shows him doing his step sequence from the SP, and I think his full long program is on there. Go Taka!...Rika and Shoma are on there too.
