The madness has taken control over me, there's no escaping it now. I found a cheap airbnb that's close to the arena so I'll be fine I think!!

And yeahhh thank you I really hope I can get some good LP tickets... those are the ones I am intending on splurging on. If it wasn't my last chance to see H&L live I wouldn't have made the decision.... All these posts today about it made me cave in to the temptation.

And I didn't know you were also from Germany!!!

That's great, options like airbnb are really making these trips a lot easier. I'm sure there will be people reselling quite close to the event, there are always some people who can't go (relatively) last minute. Maybe there will be new tickets available from the ticket site too, wouldn't be the first time.

And yes, I don't really care about hiding it, but I just never really cared about typing my country in there either  but it's good to know not everyone here just cares about socker!

Give in to the temptation!!! :yahoo:

That's also what I would say to everyone

I am surprised too, I thought MaiKatze is the only one here from Germany :) To me, accomodation in Helsinki costs more than the (cheapest) all event + the flight tickets together...Incredibly expensive.

No, there are quite a few more - I just don't want to 'out' anybody else forcefully, some people might want to stay incognito

Oh wow  that really is expensive! From all I know, food and everything like that isn't exactly cheap there either. But I'm sure it will be worth it :)

Ohh I see! this is my first time going to a figure skating competition so I wasn't sure what to expect. Now I feel a little more hopeful :)

airbnb is indeed great! for your usual poor student like me it's usually the best way to travel

and loool I was never!! a fußball fan. :disapp:

Now onto the real questions: How socially acceptable is it to cry at figure skating events? Should I prepare a big pair of sunglasses?

Haha, same problem here - but I think it's also fun to stay at different peoples places, sometimes they can give you super great advice about where to go and what to look for too, stuff you don't find in the regular trip advisor.

I sometimes watch it, but the proportions it takes on here are just way to :palmf: for me

It is super accepted! What's Figure Skating without emotions and drama? Give it all you got! ;)

So if I happen to see a couple of people with tears trickling down their cheeks on TV, I'll know who I'm looking at... :)

I just watched 4CC H&L for the first time since the actual competition (i am suffering from Hanyu withdrawals) and i was holding my breath right before the Sal of Doom.
Now you give me this! I am supposed to be working right now
Oh well...

I know, right? It's well past three in the morning over here - and I'm watching like crazy the same program, because I want to hear what different people say about him!
Though I have to say only one of them was brand new...
And to make things worse for you - 2016-2017 season disk. Thank you Dasa Ni!

According to a Korean news report, they had to bring in a truck to transport Yuzu's gifts :laugh2:

Very possible. If that person then also hugs a little Winnie the Pooh like her life depended on it, chances are even higher that's me

Yeahhh definitely, I don't see airbnb as a compromise at all.. especially since I will be traveling alone it's perfect actually.

Now that is some good news!! I'm all about the drama

This smile is probably a more appropriate representation of what i will look like: :hopelessness:

I'm feasting on Sochi PW now - in different versions! Join the feast if you like!

Thank you :thank: Really cheered me up, so thank you again :agree2:

Listening to the NBC people commentating on Yuzu's sp from the team event was really lovely, who are the people? I really like the guy appreciating Yuzu's triple-triple. They seem quite nice commentators, I'm no hater of Tara or Weir but I do prefer these two (at least based on this). Quite relaxing commentating when compared to the single events generally, perhaps because people don't care as much about the medals here so everyone is just enjoying the skating more

Heh, I think they care (given how often I hear of team medalists being referred to as Olympic ___ Medalists as if they were individual event medalists), although I think some teams (like Japan) know that their medal chances are a long shot. But for someone who loves his country as much as Yuzu does, I'm sure he cares :)

Speaking of which, I'm really curious who will skate what event in the team event. Like, will Patrick skate both events next year? He has a really good chance of becoming the team OGM. I think Canada must be the favorite for the event by now.

Thanks for the news. :thank:
Forgive my ignorance, but what is gravure pages?

Sorry, it may be a Japanese English. Japanese magazines have usually (not all) have some photo - (roto)gravure pages after the cover page, and a sort of gossip magazines feature models or idols for such pages (sexy shots mostly), so there is even a word グラビアアイドル gurabia aidoru (gravure idol). Now, the word "gravure" implies something to Japanese

Bungeishunju is a monthly magazine, a rather conservative one, and as far as I remember they feature actors, actresses, writers, politicians, or other celebrities, or particular landscapes, etc. for its gravure pages.

The title - 50 "beautiful" Japanese in 150 years just interested me. Who would be picked up? And Yuzuru is one of them :yes2:

By the way, Shukan Bunshun (weekly magazine) from the same publisher is nothing but a gossip magazine with such sexy gravure pages. Be careful not to mix them up

I did not intend to watch every video. Lord know I haven't the time, but I actually did. I realized I hadn't heard Scott and Sandra's commentary or the BBC commentary and I've seen this performance countless times. This performance made me a true Yuzuber and there was no turning back.

Thank you :thank: Really cheered me up, so thank you again :agree2:

Olympic Champ Scott Hamilton and famous choreographer Sandra Bezic. Scott had been doing commentary for, what, 20 years or so at that point? I can't remember when Sandra came along but it was a while. Johnny and Tara debuted at Sochi and then ended up replacing them.

Oh thanks SuzyQ! I actually googled it but the first results were that gravure means sexy glamour photography in Japan  and I am pretty sure it was not what it meant in the context of the magazine Yuzuru was supposed to be in hahaha, so I thought there is a different meaning for that. Thank you for explaining.
