Tangentially related to Yuzu and his damned combo: Do you guys think rotated falls should be worth more than under-rotated jumps landed?

I personally think they should, just because under-rotated jumps that get rewarded heavily don't really incentivize the skater to fix their UR issues, whereas obviously you want to work on not falling...also for some reason I don't mind falls (because it's an obvious mistake) but when skaters try to "hide" a UR it bother me (lol).

I agree with this! However, with falls, there's always a greater chance to get injured:(

Add me to the list of those going to Helsinki. I'm taking 12 days off from work (don't tell my grad students ), since my non-skating fan husband is going with me, I owe him at least some time to do some touristy things. Has it been decided if the attendees from this fan group is going to have a meeting or photo?

Have been too busy to read this thread lately, so I'm working backwards to the last post I've read. Sorry not to contribute more posts and the goal of 4000 posts this year---will try harder.

well, he finally landed the 4S of doom during worlds so there is hope this season yet :p I live in eternal optimism regarding this boy.

Current UR deductions would have worked had it been applied consistently and strictly, I imagine. Satoko, for example, ended up really working on the issue. And honestly that's the best scenario. When your protocols show you what you should improve upon. Other skaters might have been let off the hook more easily... and it's honestly to their detriment :confused2:

A fall, though, is more disruptive of the entire performance. So in addition to the GOE deductions, if you fall more than once, PCS is likely to take a hit as well. Yet at the same time it's weird for me to see the likes of Patrick take a hit in something like Skating Skills and Transitions due to falls. I'd understand if it came from Performance or Interpretation.

You go girl, but just you wait until a week before Worlds. I'll hold you to your eternal optimism when we all descend into the pit of dispair.

Hmmm, a little bit - the way Yuzuru is crossing his arms looks a little like a unconscious self-comforting gesture (his hand grabbing his elbow), and crossing your arms is normally a bit of a defensive/protective body language-pose. That doesn't mean that he feels very upset or anything, just that Brian, possibly very calmly (I think so going by his open pose) might be correcting/or scolding Yuzuru for something. Unconsciously it can always feel like a type of attack to be told that you are doing something wrong, no matter how much you genuinely appreciate the honesty/help - so the feelings do not have to be very strong but one can still exhibit defensive body-language.

Maybe I'm a bit bored... I'm no expert, used to love "learning" about body-language - possibly not the best sources though - so plz do not take me seriously ;)

Maybe he was saying "What did we say about quad axels Yuzu. I don't want you getting hurt!" And Yuzu just thinking "But i want to jump"

Haha, I can so imagine it

"No Yuzu, no one tries to jump a quad axel by accident, we talked about this..."
"That is exactly what happened"

"Just warming up :) Like, triple axel to warm up?"
"A triple axel doesn't become a quad axel by accident. Try again."
