Jason Brown

I think Jason's comparison with Maia and Alex is very apt!

NNF, I don't know if you remember, but Alex actually suffered some injuries shortly after they won bronze at 2011 Worlds. I think combined with Maia's growth spurt -- I think people forget, OFTEN, that Maia was just 16 when they won that medal -- not to mention their journey to find their style/programs, really threw a wrench in their plans. It was actually because of their hard work and determination that got them through those dark years. They never gave up on themselves and try to do the best they could. I think you're right the people subject the circa 2012-2014 years when they express surprise at their success.

I think Jason's going through his version of what the Shibs went through in those years right now. The chorus is similar, he'll never win a medal, the sport has passed him, etc. etc. But like the Shibs, he's a hard worker and a gritty competitor. Honestly, if he does better than even I expect at Worlds and next season, I actually won't be that surprised.

hi:ghug:

yes, I fully remember that Maia and Alex had this problematic time after their first senior season and this whole mismatch situation about their programs/material they had going for quite a long time, but what I'd like to point and what hit me the most about this situation is people's reactions, this lack of broader look, consideration over issues going for team/skaters, apart even from actual skating, but having an influence on it. Personally, I try to look at teams/skaters each season separately, yes - acknowledging their background, skill, style presented so far etc., but evaluating their CURRENT state they're in, CURRENT material, CURRENT style/skill represented.

In Shibutanis' case I am genuinely surprised by all those people being so surprised and baffled about their rise, successful strike now - I mean, there is really no big task to look at their execution alone, the level of quality of it and tell that this is a top-notch stuff...And then people are getting frustrated over politicking in FS/judges' games with PCS, GOEs etc., but at the same time they are frustrated with team like Shibutanis getting their scores and being a real deal challenging Tessa and Scott or (their beloved favourites) Gabriella and Guillaume. And regarding French team - same as people have a certain memo of Shibutanis as mediocre, technically solid, but unimpressive team, with no capability of scoring high and placing on top, they seems to have also a stagnated image already projected for Gabriella and Guillaume - always champions, always on top, the best skater, the best dancers.

Wish those ppl would finally realise that as hard teams are working to win and be the best, each of them has the same chance to do so.

sorry for :hijacked:

back to Jason - I'm on this side of 'not being surprised if Jason will finally hit this wall and succeed big time' too, and moreover - I'm on this side for many other skaters too :). For now, if he is happy, hopeful and satisfied with his work and progress, it all that matters for me. I'd rather see him having his FS 'happy (and successful) ever after' later than seeing him being constantly frustrated and agitated now, going for things he's not yet ready.

I beg to differ -- you seem like a very positive person! I think you could have a pretty wild time with that dream squad! Let us know when it's going to happen.

a girl can dream , but it's better to spend energy for this kind of silly thoughts or cherishing the positivity of skaters like Jason himself than wasting it for constant rowing over things we have no influence on or not worthy of arguing as we are too different, with too different tastes, points of view of sentiments to always see eye to eye :)

While scrolling through my timeline today, this came post came up from a group called "Celtic Thunder". (A friend of mine is waaaay into Irish music, which I can't stand. I assume Celtic Thunder is an Irish music group. Facebook tends to show me a lot of this friend's likes):

https://www.facebook.com/celticthunder/?hc_ref=PAGES_TIMELINE&fref=nf

(This just comes up with their home page, the post was 17 hours ago, I've fiddled with it and can't link to the post itself. Is anyone any better at this than me?)

"Riverdance on Ice" Although we've all seen Riverdance a gazillion times, it is fun to read the comments. Needless to say, they all adore Jason.

Getting ready for St. Paddy's Day, I presume.;)

Sure, here we go

Just right click on the time, next to the little globe, and you'll get the direct link to the post. Ah so good to see it linked there. (yes, they're an Irish group, pretty popular too in the genre).

Top of page 500! Well not a bad way to celebrate Jason

Can't help but chuckle as I read your post. I have a friend who is a Celtic Thunder addict. Seriously, she has seen them multiple times in the Chicago area. They also had Celtic Thunder Caribbean cruises, and she went on both of them...These would be cruises you and I both would not want to be on!!!! :noshake: Sorry :otopic:

Brilliant! Thank you el henry :) The comments are a sight for sore eyes!

500 pages!!!! :dance3:

I have to say, getting close to worlds I get super paranoid and whenever I see in the "new posts" list that a fan page has been updated, I get worried that it's bad news

Thank you!

And yes, we need to up those Jason fan fest views:laugh:

No problem!

And we do. I am excellent at angsting over layouts, a true pro, so that's a sure way to get it up. I've been holding myself back though, I keep thinking there's still time
But we can totally talk about the quad, the state of the quad, just the long or both short and the long, which is smarter etc. Just saying.

A celtic music cruise? I looove cruising, and I'd throw myself overboard.:dbana:

I thought it was funny that this post did show up in my timeline, not because of skating (I don't post that much on skating actually), but because of my friend's Irish music fandom.

What we need is a skating cruise with Jason there. Back on topic:agree:

A Jason cruise?! I'm in! :party2: :hb: My friends who just got back from a cruise said one of the things they enjoyed the most was the ice skating shows that were on board!

Sure....but you can also up views by talking about much more fluffy things like costumes and hairdos. LOL.

Or in my case, let's talk about this: I've noticed five-o-clock shadows all season long....is that a trend now? Part of the mature packaging he's trying to show to judges? Something else?

I LOVE Jason's look this year!! Wonder how much Rohene has to do with it... bet it's more than we think...

Ah, I LOVE Irish music and I've seen Celtic Thunder! :) Thanks for the link! Ironically, a FB friend just posted Jason's Riverdance on her page a couple of days ago. She'd never seen it before! It was fun seeing other non-skating friends comment on it.

Can you elaborate on the look? The hair? Costuming? I do like the new SP costume. I think the collar looks good on him.

You mean, my 200 check-ins a day aren't enough? :scratch2:

Well that's what I'm wondering. I've noticed that Jason's had a slightly unshaven look all season long, which makes me wonder if that's intentional rather than "Oh, I forgot to shave this morning!"

I do think the man bun in the FS is part of a more sleek look.

hi all .ithink its great. ive noticed that on a lot of celebs and actors lately a sort of rugged handsome look. and Jason is a young man now and looking better each year .I mean he is 22yrs old and a mutuire male and all that goes with that. ive noticed he has filled out more the past 2 yrs or so. he probably working out with weights too built his strength and muscle but not too much. he sort of has the body of a dancer.strong toned, but not like aweight lifter. I think he looks great. the only thin I'm worried about is premutire baldness. or even a receding hair line. it happens too a lot of men. jasons grandfathers and his father steve brown have balding. Jason has beautiful hair. wich we can see when he does ware it down. which I wish he would do more often. there different styles he could use long and it would still be stylish and not get in the way of his skating. but theres still time. I have too say his ponytail is his and his alone. idont really like the man bun so much. but like I said its a fad. Jason looks really good in black. and also blue and even red. I aso think his best traits are besides his hair is his smile, he has a great smile, and he has beautiful dark brown eyes amoned shaped eyes.

ROSA74... sorry, I messed this up, meant to quote you but got it wrong :palmf:
I agree with you about his new SP jacket but I thought the fit was a bit too tight, constricting when I first saw it; the fit was better, more flexible (for lack of a better word) the second time I saw it (? at 4 CC). I also liked the original white shirt/black slacks very much, subtle.. elegant, very like a young, modern James Bond. Jason's total package this year is very appealing to me and a natural progression as he matures. The black monochromatic FS black is stunning with the hair pulled back, perfectly representing the character he portrays. Also, one commentator early this season said that Jason makes the most beautiful pictures with his body on the ice and black makes his exquisite positions pop... something Rohene would capitalize to full advantage. The face shadow is most attractive and seems to be a trend showing in men's fashion ads currently...casual, off-hand, masculine, it definitely moves Jason from young junior to mature young man in my eyes at least. Jason's earlier costumes, Riverdance, ? Of U, T & I, we're appropriate for his age, time, place and portrayal and believe Rohene, for the most part, got it right (tho who can forget the "mustard" pants!?) But I think Rohene's hand is visible too in this season's look - sleek spare, clean, enhancing his toned, fit physique..I for one am very comfortable with the look. If Rohene is, indeed, behind it, he seems to be taking the upcoming Olympic season in stride, focusing more on luxurious but understated fabrics to portray character, leaving the glue-gun and bling on the back burner... Fingers crossed it stays this way!!

Thanks for the comments, elbkup! I agree with a lot of that. I also liked the white and black.

Since Rohene's influence is mentioned a lot, are there any videos out there of Jason's comps before Rohene started choreographing him?

I lovingly refer to that as the Game of Thrones costume and I liked it quite a bit. ;) Actually, the Nationals T & I may be my favorite JB skate ever. And as long as we're talking about styling, I adore the T & I hair and would very much like to see it again.

Whether intentional or not, I think it's a nice look, and makes him look more mature.

I do like the bun, but to me it looks too sleek at times. I'd love to see it fuller, showing more of the curls, but I'm sure the slickness (product) is necessary to keep it under control while skating. I like the way his hair looks in practice videos. A little wild, but not too wild.

Ok, these posts are great. The level of detail worthy of Yuzu's fan fest:biggrin:

I agree that the T&I hair was great, down, but not really down, with the braids on the side. That said, I can't imagine that the Hamilton program won't have a ponytail. I mean, from the photos I saw, the men in the Hamilton cast have ponytails. (and yes, I am assuming there will be a Hamilton program. Never heard one single song and never saw it ... true confession, I was invited last year, sis and her family went, for that amount of $$$ and the trip to NYC ... God forbid I travel 70 miles to see Broadway's hottest show, sorry not sorry. I admire what was done there, but not my style)

And very interesting about the five o'clock shadow, I hadn't thought about that, but definitely you can see his beard. I just thought it was the maturing of our little Jason:laugh: If that is Rohene's doing, I agree:agree: He has a more mature presentation overall, and I think it works. Along with the muting of the bedazzler....;)

Regarding the stubble/five o'clock shadow look, it may not be Rohene; it may just be a little masculine pride: "Look, I can shave now!". Josh did it too. 13-14 season, baby-smooth skin, 14 SOI, scraggly little beardy thing. It's adorable.

Whether Rohene has had the costuming taken away from him or whether he's finally had some sense shaken into him I don't especially care, just as long as we don't see any backwards steps in the Olympic year. It is imperative that this season, Jason is packaged like the true champion he is. The ingredients are all there for packaging the mature Jason, they just have to put it together.

I am immensely curious to know what Jason's Olympic year programs will be. The Hamilton one seems set, but what about the FS?

FB is more diffucult to navigate than GS by far, I find, but it keeps me in touch with family and friends who are far away so I swim the moat :curse: tho it is a trial to someone like me who tends to find these sites challenging.... ha!
I did pull up the Celtics Thunder post, watched Riverdance there for the billionth time, and was struck by the comments: seemed to me most commenters were seeing Jason's Riverdance for the first time?!! How could that be?!! :drama:
:thank: for posting!
