2017 Worlds Helsinki Info and Chat

Hi, I will be in Helsinki from Sunday and would love to meet someone to make small talk, discussions, lunch together. I am available for your initiatives.

We're meeting at Salve, 7.30, Monday for dinner. Let us know if you want to join.

Hello
I will be in Helsinki for words and a little bit sightseeing this week, from friday march 24th. I can't make it to your meeting on Monday at 7:30 am. I stay at a hotel near the arena. Hoping to see you all at the arena.

Envious of all of you planning to attend this year. Looking forward to live reports, skater sightings and general fun and frivolity!

Boston was a highlight for me last year, so I hope Helsinki is the same for all of you!

Thank you. I misunderstood the time of your meet up on Monday 7:30 pm in the evening for diner, not 7:30 am in the morning. Can you give me the address of this restaurant Salve please. I may go there for dinner if I can. See you then.

Salve, Hietalahdenranta, 5c (I think!!! Completely unfamiliar with Finnish), 00180, but you can always google Salve Helsinki.

I am travelling the next few days, so I won't be checking this site much. I will be at Salve though, and look forward to meeting those who can make it.

If you can afford it, I highly recommend taking the high speed train to St Petersburg. Even if it's just for the day. Go to a street side café, have some good coffee and people watch. I swear you'll love it. Even the train ride is fun....

That's correct!

You can take tram number 6 from the city centre, it stops right next to the restaurant. And 9 stops pretty close. But it's not a long walk, either.

Salve is known as a "seafarers' restaurant", and if you're wondering what to order, their herrings are legendary. So much so that at least in my head Salve = herrings, so when somebody says "Salve" I immediately think about herrings, LOL

I am green . But I cannot skip the meeting where they decide about renovation in the house and we are going to sell that apartment...so I am just satisfied to be green and let you enjoy.

Is there a dedicated topic for TV and livestreams? I cannot find it. :scratch2:

Anywhere, here's what I found so far for Eurosport Netherlands, one hour behind Helsinki.

Note: if you have a print TV guide, *double check* the times with the Eurosport website. My print Dutch TV guide is an hour off for *all* events compared with the listings on the website, and frankly, the ones on the website make a lot more sense, taking into account timezones / summertime / etc. I can only assume they messed up with figuring in the timezone difference or summertime adjustment when they made the print TV guide.

I've adjusted the listings below accordingly.

Wednesday March 29
E1 17.00 - 18.20 Ladies SP recap
E1 18.20 - 20.55 Pairs SP LIVE (missing first and last hour?)
E2 21.20 - 23.00 Pairs SP recap
Oddly enough, Pairs SP actually runs from 17.10 to 21.48 Holland time. So not entirely sure what to make of this weird schedule...

Thursday March 30
E1 0.15 - 1.30 Pairs SP recap
E2 1.30 - 3.00 ?? recap
E1 7.00 - 8.30 Ladies SP recap
E1 12.00 - 13.15 Pairs SP recap
E1 17.00 - 18.30 Men SP recap
E1 18.30 - 21.10 Pairs FS LIVE (pretty much covers the whole of the FS)
E2 21.30 - 23.00 ?? recap

Friday March 31
E2 1.30 - 3.00 ?? recap
E1 5.00 - 6.00 Pairs FS recap
E2 8.30 - 9.30 ?? recap
E2 12.00 - 15.30 probably last three hours of the SD LIVE
E1 17.00 - 18.30 Ice Dance SD recap
E2 21.45 - 23.00 ?? probably Ladies FS recap

Saturday April 1
E2 1.30 - 3.00 ?? recap
E2 4.00 - ?? ?? recap

Doesn't look like there will be much live coverage, with a focus on pairs. :disapp:

The announced ISU stream at the eurovision page also disappeared into a black hole some days ago. It was there, and then it wasn't anymore. But I'll give them the benefit of the doubt; they weren't exactly forthcoming with news about the Junior WC stream, either, until virtually the last minute before it started.

Have you noticed Free dance is on April's fool day? They say to winner you won and later no you did not, you got couple of points too much.

For you who are coming to Finland and are not able to see every competition live. Local TV company YLE is broadcasting almost every competition live, or at least very much of them, on TV. If there is something they do not broadcast in TV or you do not have TV in your location, every competition is broadcasted in YLE Areena, their internet channel. This is available only in Finland.

That would require a visa for St Petersburg, too late to apply!

I did not need a visa when I went to St Petersburg. However, that was in 1999. All I had to do was show my Passport. Have things changed since then? I thought you only needed a visa if you were planning to be in the country for an extended amount of time.

Did you maybe have a group visa and therefore didn't need an individual one? You also wouldn't need a visa if you travel by ferry from Helsinki or Tallinn, or on a cruise ship, but I think that's only if you stay for less than 2 days or so. There are certain countries whose nationals do not require visas, but most do. I know they've talked for ages about allowing visa-free train travel from Helsinki, and I hope they manage it soon somehow. We're planning a trip to St Petersburg later this year (I learned that my husband has never been to Russia and that must be remedied!) so not having to deal with the visa hassle would be great :)

You know what....I was on tour when we went so it's possible that our managers set it up. By the way, we were not there more than 3 days. We traveled by train and went to a ballet the same evening. We stayed over night and took the train back the next evening after spending the day sight seeing. It was exhausting but VERY fun.
