PB: After such a performance he has to come onto the ice- Yuzuru Hanyu, the world record holder. Last year at the NHK Trophy he set a new world record- over 322 points in the total score. At the Grand Prix Final, as well, he was quite convincing in Barcelona. At the World Championships then he was left standing by his team collegue, Fernandez. But here he is, leading by a huge margin. And we know him already- he is pretty cool, this japanese man.

HS: Triple loop- quad loop, I mean- he is the only one who jumps this one securely.

HS: That was the next quad, this time a salchow.

PB: Ahh... We have wished dearly that he gets through this program without errors, as well, and he started so well, Hendryk, the quad loop was better than the ones we have seen so far from him in bigger competitions- until now he always was off axis. And after that, the quad salchow also looked really good, the fall on the next salchow did not hurt much and the following solo quad was there again but then- the slip-ups thereafter- were quite uncharacteristic for him.
HS: Oh well..

Whatever the case, it is really enormously exciting that the ones who were miles ahead of the rest of the field, like Javier Fernandez, are being put under pressure now. And because they have to risk more they end up making more mistakes. It is more difficult for the likes of Hanyu, Fernandez or Patrick Chan to escape that. Nathan Chen has nothing to defend- he can just skate and if his four quads end up going awry it's not too bad. He has nothing to loose. For the others it is a clearly more difficult situation. That's why, I think, we are experiencing considerably more mistakes.
PB: He was 20 points ahead of Nathan Chen so I think when it comes to the total score it will be enough for him to win but in the free skate he won't be able to get ahead of Nathan Chen's score.
(about the jump on-screen) This was of course the highlight of his program, this quad loop.
HS: Yes that would also be my bet- he will loose the free to Nathan Chen by a small margin but overall he will clearly, without problems, be at the top.
PB: But what concerns the Grand Prix Final, he has been stronger in the past two years, more secure in the free. Especially last year, that was really his best season and we actually thought that he would get his first world champion title but somehow it should not happen that way.
HS: Yes but there the pressure was not as high.
PB: Or let me say his second worlds title, he did win it once during the olympic season.
HS: There just weren't as many skaters who could have put him under pressure. That's why the starting point today, or this year, is considerably more difficult. He isn't very secure. The title he lost to Fernandez, as well. There he was already deemed the clear winner and he had a huge advantage in the short program and he still didn't manage to overcome the pressure. I'm curious what will happen from now on. We still have two world champions left, the reigning- and the three time ex-world champion.
PB: Yes, five quads are yet to come if we sum them all up. Just now we said, hopefully all of them will have a clean skate so that eventually the best may win.
We don't want to discredit his performance. He has already given us so much joy, Yuzuru Hanyu, and it is just not always possible to make no mistakes at this level and this niveau. That would be inhuman. 187.37, he had 219 before. Even compared to Uno he is 8 points short.

Would you guys agree with Hendryk Schamberger that there was less pressure on Yuzu last season?
I mean, he always had rivals, just that he kept on outgrowing them. And Boyang and Shoma were pressuring him even before Nathan and during the GPF itself Nathan had not yet skated his 5 quad program. And above all Yuzu has expressed before that he felt more pressured about having to defend his two-time GPF win last season compared to having to defend it this time.

I am constantly amazed and flattered that every time a kid sees a guy in my phone they think I'm dating them.

On topic:
So long as Yuzu looks well-rested, well-fed and generally healthy I will be happy, whether he is giggly and smiley or super serious and focused. So long as he hasn't overtrained and got even a minor injury I am okay.
I am keeping my positive vibes that he's going to do well at worlds. I keep dreaming of the SP and him setting a new WR and waking up mid-dream because I got too excited

It's a combonation of things attracting people to Yuzu I think...The anime, the upcoming Olympics esp with people who will remember him from Sochi, everyone using social media more and maybe getting exposed through that as a bunch of people start getting into FS even if they didn't watch the anime... He's a recognisable name, theres a fair chance people have heard of him before even if they don't follow figure skating and he's super likable I think a lot of people in Korea could get behind him even though he's Japanese because he's most likely to do something super noteworthy at Pyeongchang. And he's handsome, young and hardworking.

I think he can handle the pressure, esspecially if he can feel more like 'these people support and believe in me' and less 'these people will be disappointed if I don't do well' It comes down to mentality and how he can balance the feeling of pressure, and the feeling of support.

Last season maybe there were more pressure around Worlds, I mean everyone expected him to win. This time the atmosphere is different and the expectiations are more realistic.
But the pressure he puts on himself maybe stronger this time, he still hasn't had a perfect perfomance this season.

Yes, I was thinking the same, don't want to miss it! But there is always someone from japanese tv filming him all the time. At NHK the OPs were closed to public, nevertheless we got some footage. If there is 4Lz, we will see it, I am sure!

I refuse to believe Worlds just around the corner

about Javi/Yuzu, one is The skater who left his Russian coach coz the coach favor another student and the other is outlier from team Japan, it's bitter sweet honestly

I watched some video early this year but I lost the link, it was after an ice show I think(maybe when Yuzu still 17 Yo), and the big boys from team Japan(Dai, Taka and idk who was the other one) posing in front of the crowd and suddenly Yuzu joined them, I don't want to make such drama but to be honest I don't like the kind of look those three gave to Yuzu back than. Thats why I came to conclution that Yuzu never close to TJ. So, I can understand why Yuzu he prefer being alone than felt leftout among the other.

I think that you may be right about Yuzu and Team Japan. "Old" boys in TJ back then were good friends if I remeber correctly, so it's not weird that they weren't so eager to befriend someone who was a new threat to them. It may also be one of the reasons why he is so invested in playing big bro for younger skaters, like Satoko (poor baby, I like her so much :sad21: ) and Shoma.

The Marin hype is so... :shocked: She's a beautiful skater and my favorite junior, maybe even currently skating lady but...wowzers.

Has any other skater had this hype because I don't recall the hyper over Yuzu/Yuna being like this...maybe Mao when she won the senior GPF as a junior skater...

I also really like her, but I don't get the hype . Sure she is pretty and talented, but I don't see why some thinks she should be crown as Japan's #1 right now. Japan have a lot of talented girls, and I think that competition between them without overhyping one of them (especially with Olympics so soon) would be the best way of developing their talents. As for now, Satoko is No. 1 Japan lady without the doubt.

In one week we will have plenty of new images of Yuzuru.
Interviews of Yuzuru. Yuzuru at the airport. Yuzuru at the rink. Yuzuru in ua outfit for us to gush on.
If he's smiling and cheerful we'll get worried he isn't focused enough.
If he's serious we'll get worried something might be wrong.
If he lands the jumps we'll be worried it'll jinx his programs.
If he doesn't we'll be worried he doesn't either in his programs.

In any case it's going to be INTENSE. And glorious. Like him <3

I think this season's and last season's pressure are completely different- in Boston everyone thought that gold was done deal, especially after short, this year everything has changed. I'm very curious how both Yuzu and Javi will handle it. Not to mention the rest of the men...

What a shame, I love watching vids from gala practices. I still hope for quad battle, but who knows, there weren't many this season. I remember only the one from CoC.

Заходим в отель: полукругом стоят - мама Юдзуру, папа, представители федерации, судьи – кланяются нам и долго так стоят. У девушек на ресепшене глаза на лоб полезли! Незабываемые ощущения.
