Yuzuru Hanyu: 2016-17 Season

I was listening to "The Blade Boys" men's preview for worlds. It seems thant nobody likes Hanyu's programs this season no one likes his music selections. They are all still stuck on last year's performances. Plus Hanyu hasn't been clean this season. I'm praying it all comes together for Hanyu at Worlds next week. I'd hate to see what another lost would do to him
Forging new paths always means there will be resistance and dissenters. Evolution is all about not resting on laurels, he's forging his own path towards his own ideal of skating which does not confirm to many's preconceived notions of what he should be doing and what he should be skating. If others are stuck on last season, too bad, because he's moving on past them to higher heights. Bravo to him.

Sadly, it seems that somehow it's acceptable for others to make mistakes, but Yuzuru is held up to the standard of NHK/GPF 2015. The recent GoldenSkate Worlds preview for instance also holds him and his programs to a higher standard than anyone in the top 6. Again, even if you don't like his programs(/music/costumes), it does not mean they're not full of interpretative details, performance quality, and technical wonder.

I honestly think that LGC is his strongest SP ever and H&L is only behind maybe R&J, at least tied with SEIMEI . His GPF 2016 SP is my top performance of the season across all disciplines, maybe I should do a long 1000 word ramble like I did with H&L  on all the little things that make this program so difficult, intricate, demanding of attention to detail, but also fun, exuberant, and paradoxically spontaneous in a way that figure skating typically is not. When he hits this SP, it's transcends the often "over-rehearsed" quality many skates suffer from, and it's just passion and love for skating and performing. I can't wait for Helsinki :)

I'm curious how many times would others skate a clean Chopin+Seimei or LGC+H&L with the same layout as Yuzuru. The answer is probably close to zero.

I wonder. He's just expected to break WR every other day. :) And since he hasn't this season, he's so... last season. :)
I just wonder at Javi - one perfect skate in his career, and that makes him a man 'always peaking for the worlds'. I wonder if he's feeling the pressure now.

I'm wonder about Javi too. It's so weird that 2x World Champion is still seen as underdog, even if his season wasn't stellar so far. I'm curious how the quad madness is affecting him (or not). And if we will finally see a clean Malaguena? What about his 4Lo (possibility for next season of course)?
And the same with Yuzu. If he will finally have a good, or even better clean free at WC (I'd love to see both programs clean, but I think that free is more important for his mental state and reputation. And I'm trying to keep my expectations in check)? 4Lz?
So many questions and I'm not sure if I want to know the answers :slink:

Right, I'm getting lots of grey hair next week. :)

Elevator music. I remember this vividly, after AC, Hisaishi's music got called elevator music

That was the point I know there's just no pleasing some people  Or they have really melodious elevators where they live

Honestly I just thumbs upped all the posts on this page because the double standards are amazing to behold.

Please, I would just want some others to try his crazy entries (hi back counter 3A) for "comparison purposes" :noshake:

Yes please? So I can read it 100 times and sigh with happiness.

er... if you did ramble about Chopin, I'd be just over the moon to read it. Your piece about H&L was brilliant...

Their "clean" and his "clean" would be different anyway :handw: Their clean is meeting the minimal standard of somewhat staying on their feet.

Yeah, and his clean is outdoing NHK Seimei and GPF Chopin... Nothing less is clean enough.

I think at this point he'd have to have +3s on all jumps in H&L and even then it'd be ~debatable~. He looks at the ice too much, you see.

Don't you forget his posture! It's not "balletic" enough! (and I lol'ed so hard when I read in old competitions thread he "doesn't have any transitions")

I think I remember that post, it was great :points: so feel free to post 1000 word ramble about any Yuzu program you like :agree:

And I won't comment about so called elevator music, because I would probably write something rude about someone's else music choice :scard7:

Okay, I had a weird dream last night , I guess pre worlds hysteria hit me. So I was somewhere in dark street searching for Yuzuru :palmf: then I found a dark house and suddenly I got he should be there, I went to the direction of back yard and I found him in total darkness sitting in the big hole or a well, I wanted to pull him out from there and told I will bring the rope , in this darkness I was seeing only sparkle of gold medal on his neck, it was shinning so brightly.. tho he refused to go out from there he was telling me that he wants to sit alone because this medal is shinning so bright there. So I have left him in that dark well alone... ( I know I can't be saved ) :slink:

Yep, somehow Yuzuru not being clean stands out much more than other top contenders not being clean. It's a weird mental thing that people have... And "inconsistent" is much more sticky with Yuzuru than with anyone else too.

I don't think anyone could be consistent with the amount of difficult entries and transitions Yuzu packs into his programs. I see people harping that Plushenko was a much better competitor and could be counted to land his jumps. Well Plushenko had no transitions and no difficult entries into his big elements. If Yuzu wanted consistency he could get it by watering down his choreography until all he had was crossovers and simple turns into jumps. That would get him up to the 90% success rate on his 4S and I'm assuming his 4T would have an even higher success rate. His programs are all high risk, high reward - i.e. when he skates the way he can skate, nobody can beat him. This is the first time he's been to Worlds healthy and he's itching to win so chances are high IMO for an "Olympic" statement lol - "get my title from me if you can".

Ah yes, how could I forget he's not 'balletic' enough. Darn. Poor Yuzuru. I guess he's not Nureyev, what can a bloke do (apart from watching some YT videos of course). It is what it is
That was really hilarious and still is hilarious, as that nonsense still crops up!

Yeah, like once or twice. Way too much. :(
He's a complete failure, yeah, a total write-off. :) he hasn't managed to top his own WR this season.
But OK, maybe, the pressure can be off and he can be free to skate as an underdog? Or he'll never get to be an underdog now?

Please do! We all appreciated your last one!
