2017 Worlds Helsinki Info and Chat

You'll have to smuggle it inside though. otherwise you get to either throw it away or eat it in front of the door

They checked my bag but not the pockets so I should be able to smuggle some breakfast bars or chocolate. I'll try next time. The water bottle is still okay tho right?

Yes, an empty bottle is ok.

Any further plan for meet ups? Didn't plan ahead with food and drink and was forced to buy expensive sad food in the arena. Bring your own food people. It's worth the effort

Lyverbird1 will post about the next meet up.

Oh yes, I was thrown out for having a cider at Finlandia Trophy, it was embarrassing! I get it that they have rules, but there were no signs or anything anywhere...

Oh no. Part of my train journey will be replaced by bus.

The alcohol law in Finland is very strict. If a custom of the restaurants brings alcohol outside the defined serving area, you may get a warning and if that happens regularly, you may loose you license to sell alcohol. And drinking in public places is forbidden. Hard to believe, but so it is. And do not try to buy beer early in the morning or late in the evening in the shops or markets. You will not get it. Only between 9 am. and 9 pm. Food laws we do not have, so far. Or do we?

Will they let in very small backpacks--like a daypack? It's about the size of a woman's handbag, only it has shoulder straps.

Thank you everybody on the ground there! --especially for the food warnings. It's really helpful. I'm excited to finally arrive later today!

The bag I'm bringing is definitely a good bit larger than my handbag and so far I had no trouble with it

Idea for another meet up - there's a bar area behind the lower seating area around number 118. How about meeting there for a drink between ladies short and opening ceremony? LS due to finish around 4.20 and we'd have an hour to meet for a drink and a chat and perhaps plan a lunch or breakfast later in the werk. Easier to do in person!

By the way, I'm enjoying the hilarity at practice of the skater immediately after Ashley skating to Hip Hip Chin Chin and now someone else is skating to Moulin Rouge. She must feel like she's in a time warp..

Good idea.

Ashley is very determined and fit.

Quick info for anyone who wanted to hang a banner and it hasn't been put up yet: apparently they've run out of ISU approved banner space (after like 25 banners :rolleye:) check with them tomorrow morning, they will know by then if they get more space approved, otherwise you can get it back before the competition

Actually, without the right ticket you can't enter the sitting area on the short sides of the arena. Free seating during practice sessions is only on judges' side and opposite.

I tried and got kindly turned away.

I was going to ask for my banner back if it wasn't up by tomorrow. I hope they can get approved for more space :sad21:

I already wondered why there were so few - and they're right behind the judges... cameras are usually trained on the opposite side. I hope they show some of them on TV anyway.

Are there any printed programs? I don't think I will be able to print out the skating order at my airbnb. Also, how and when do I get hold of planned layouts? Thanks for the help; never done this live viewing thing before!

BTW, what's the temperature inside the arena? Just to know what I should wear. I'm coming from Barcelona...so not really used to cold weathers at all XD

Thank you!
Inside the arena it's OK - not really warm but not cold either. Near the ice it tends to be colder.

Outside it's colder, especially when the sun is down and very windy - I recommend scarf and cloves.

There are hangouts but don't try to take them - just take a photo.

One guy actually tried to take them and they were not amused.

Try the Worlds app. It has the skating order in the "judge" thingy
