Yuzuru Hanyu: 2016-17 Season

People tweeting that the deduction was for a 3 second late start, I mean bit harsh

And he honestly should have gotten +3GOE for 4L and 3A (especially since Javi's got +3), 4L had great speed, hight and difficult entrance and exit. It was absolutely beautiful

Yes 5th place, thinking about the FS... Javi is quite good at performing when it counts. Boyang's FS scores hasn't been that great this season. Chan and Uno are both a bit unpredictable. Though I trust Uno better to land his jumps than Chan (though I don't think Uno's high PCS scores are really deserved but whatever). Though Chan does seem to be getting more consistent but his BV is still got a lot lower than Yuzuru's...

 Guys, when I am not panicked and not mad you guys expect Yuzuru to do well in LP. I think Nathan will do well LP too btw.

Yuzuru will win WC. Take my words for that.

Two rules changed in this season and he suffered both of them in the most important comp of the season. Such a joke!

Well, if he does, he will certainly have done it the hard way, LOL!! But, if so, then it would be the most satisfying because it will mean he skated his "butt" off.

Well I'm not shocked at Hanyu's placement. I had him in 7th in my worst case scenario so 5th is a bit better. Sigh that blasted combo. Sadly I doubt he will win. He has a shot at best for bronze. Nathan I wasn't surprised with his placement especially since he'd changed boots since 4CC. It is Nathan's very first worlds 6th isn't that bad. If Javier wins this again I think he'll be setting himself up nicely for next years olympics. If Hanyu finishes heaven forbid off the podium at worlds I think there's no way he'll be able to defend his olympic gold medal. His track record in good season, bad season. Last season was so good I'm not surprised at how this season is going for him. Which means good olympic year right! That combo has become his Achilles heel.

I think it's doubly disappointing for him because his warm up was great and so was his RT earlier (aside from the poped axel). And he got an amazing 4Lo in the SP. So what happened with the 4S after and also losing the combo he fought so hard for (god, that rippon 2T was the most amazing invalid element ever) just sucked. He is in the best physical shape he's ever been in, and he still can't get the performance he feels he is capable of. So I am very sad for him. Fight back in the FS, Yuzu!

welcome to the club #emergency2Trippon

#emergencyquad #yolo3A are welcoming you ;)

and more to come for the club, yeahh I eyeing you two 4A and 4lz :p

I think he still has a good shot at silver, but he needs to really skate clean so he doesn't rely on others mistakes

Ah well, Yuzu, that hurts. But I still love you!

It hurts all the more as we love him so much ^^ But hey I would be too worried if he were first actually (the boy needs the pressure in the FS to do well). Now I need my fighter dragon to wake up and I hope we'll see another hug between him and Javi on the podium ! (it's a tradition :D)

Well. What to say?

I think one thing matters only on Saturday and that is to skate a clean free. It's not just about this Worlds but going into next season too.

Hopefully he will rest, put the disappointment behind him and I am sure, he'll have a good, long talk with both Brian and Tracy and decide what they think is best in this situation. I honestly do not know what is salvageable here and what isn't, but if he skates clean then that alone is a point of pride for him now. Brian and Tracy both can do a lot of good, so I wish them all the best!

Fingers crossed everyone, it is what it is and he can do it!

He was having a lengthy chat with Brian prior to starting and then seemed to rush his usual on-ice routine. Maybe the nerves were a bit too much for him and taking to time to calm himself was unfortunately slightly too long :( it's ok, he'll pull it back

He was nervous. And the deduction for late start...I feel like the judges could have left it unnoticed, but they didn't. Yuzu has to be perfect everytime.

If I have a problem with his current placement it is this: his sad face. Anything else doesn't matter.

All quads gets -4 if they have a majority of -3 GOE by judges

He didn't fall, just landed on a knee.

A deduction for the slow start... well, now he will definitely reduce those rituals he talked about wanting to reduce... wow. How often have we seen deductions for this in skating? Now, if he loses any podium place or anything vital because of 1 point, it will be very, very painful...

Looked at protocols... javi got a +3 for his 3A and Yuzu only 2.71.... i'm a bit surprised at that. Javi's was great, but Yuzu's axel just flies... ????

His loop and axel were gorgeous, though. Really awesome... and he was flying through his footwork and got into the final spin earlier than before even.

His 4loop got higher marks as a single jump than any of the other top guys' singles jumps... so at least his quality on elements helped....

His 3A is effortless, that's the problem. Too easy you know. jk. But I enjoyed his SP, he was playing with the public more than at GPF.

If not for that combo, what could have been. He got all level 4s and max GOE on the step sequence for the third time this season.

WR

just comeback after a little nap and oh boy..it's Ok, there is still FS

I find it's so hilarious, I mean all of this time everyone guessing Yuzu or Nathan but both of them end up in the last placement
yeahh it's bitter sweet, but somehow I'm so calm :)
Yuzu still has a chance tho

I said to my mother before the Worlds started: "If Javi wins I will not be even sad", because of all this talk about Nathan. Well...
I am calm now (and drunk), there is nothing to lose. Yuzu, now you can do any crazy thing you want, I don't mind.

Well, I took a break, I calmed and I reviewed Yuzu's program on Eurosport and I must say that other than that CoD everything else was great. He still has a good chance to medal (I don't know about gold) and tomorow it's another day. Not everything is lost! Group hug guys! :ghug:

well, yeah, I've had nearly enough of it. But he'll stick to it anyway.

His stubbornness in keeping that blasted combo seems to have backfired on him. No chance in getting that world title now. He's blown that. He'll be luck if he can even get on the podium at this rate.

I'm sad that Yuzuru lost but oh well, he can fight back in the free. I'm not too worried about making up points seeing as how Javi caught up last year. IF Yuzuru skates clean and breaks his WR then he should hopefully win. TBH the most upsetting thing out of the whole ordeal is Yuzu's disappointment :(
