What do you think about this; https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=X8ITW72y_6s, The Red Violin. It would give Lena an opportunity to wear a red tutu? It is so powerful and passionate and mysterious at the same time. It could be a break out year!!!

John Corigliano's Red Violin would be a fabulous choice for them too. The music is beautiful and haunting and hasn't been used much in skating.

If Elena gets to wear a red tutu in your Red Violin, then she gets to wear this Outlander red dress in my Dangerous Liaisons FD for them.

I like it when she commented that everyone is skating to the same P/C style and it's boring

:thumbsup::laugh:

I don't want to be disrespectful because all these dancers are working very, very hard, but with the exception of Chock/Bates the FD competition at the GPF was unbearable to watch. As much as I disliked Ruslena's Bollywood program, the judges gave them good PCS, so maybe they are also getting bored with the trend of using bland, tingly piano music.

Glad I wasn't alone in this. The only programs I enjoyed and find it interesting were C&B.
The only criticism I have about them is that FD choice of music version.

p.s About the new programs. I would say La La Land would be great for them.

I agree with you alba! I saw la la land three weeks ago and i thought the same.
Another good option for the fd would be "let's go out tonight" by Craig Amstrong

I think we'll be pleasantly surprised by their choices. IMHO, Lets Go Out Tonight is just too monotone though and reminiscent of everything P/C and a number of others have been doing for the last 2 -3 seasons. Re-thinking the Red Violin it may also be a bit too sad. Lala land has its moments but sometimes it feels a little cheesy. It has promise depending on how the music is edited. I think some Frank Sinatra could also work, something unusual, dynamic but very compelling to the ear. Waiting for it.

Someone previously mentioned the film score "Once Upon a Time in America" for a FD for Elena and Ruslan. It has good music and an interesting story.

They could try the music from the Sherlock movies and tv show and portray the characters of Sherlock and Irene. They could could have a lot of fun with it, and playing such distinct characters would be really good for Ruslan.

I wish you were right. And I agree with your description of what their music should be, but I'd add, for myself, not *too* unusual. The last unusual choices didn't go down all that well, and I still think they'd do well to return to a dynamic, easy-to-remember warhorse like Carmen was, and make it their own. And above all I think they should leave their coaches, since the lack of appreciation for their programs started when they skated under K/A. I wonder if it's too late or too expensive to try someone like Platov, as someone suggested. Because to be honest, I found his choreo work for Coomes/Buckland's Muse much more memorable and big-looking than the last two FDs IZ have been given. IZ deserve better and bigger. :7

Next season is going to be very hard for I/Z and IMO they will need all the support of their coaching team they can get. There are many things K/A can be critisized on, but they are always there for them, when I/Z need them. With that being said, I do think they need better choreo, especially with their Free Dance. I like the idea of Once Upon a Time in America or they could try one of the warhorses. While I think they should stay with K/A, I hope they will get outside choreo, maybe working with Vlasova or, if they have the funding, with Camerlengo. Maybe something like "Je suis malade" would also work for them. Above all I wish them to be healthy and injury-free this off season and that they will be super-prepared in September. If they want to have a shot at one of the Olympic spots, they need to be clearly above S/K and S/B during the GP season,it won`t be enough to score close to them. It`s unfair, but IMO it`s the situation they are in, right now.

I honestly don't think Igor did all that much for them last year. They might have progressed further if they'd stayed home. I think they'll have assistance with the choreo we just have to be patient. The most important thing this season is to be injury free and ready to fight. They've shown us that they know how to do that. They never give up on a program and always go for it :)

That's true... but I'd still like them to try at least split coaching, as the programs and elements they've had under A/K haven't been much rewarded since their first season.

Seconded! I hope they can break out next season.

I don't think the upcoming season will be hard on them. They tried Igor it didn't work, we move on. They have a head start on the off season- I don't consider that a bad thing. While the results of Russian Nationals were laughable, Euros was certainly vindicating in my eyes. It certainly showed that the Russian field isn't closed shut. KA works for them so I am glad they are staying there. They are a priority in the rink and that is never a bad thing.

Going into the Olympic season, it does seem like K/A are the right fit for them. It’s not only the support they provide but they seemed to have motivated Elena and Ruslan quite a bit upon their return to Russia. As they move forward as a team, they really need to consider their strengths and weakness to know what to work on, to find the right programs and choreographers, etc. I figure they will collaborate with Najarro on a SD which is always a good thing. With FDs, they really haven’t found something that works for them, gets the praise and accolades from the judges, and makes their fans happy. Frida hit on two of those which was that it worked for them and made us fans happy while their Bollywood this year seemed to only get the judges (not the one’s at Russian Nationals) on board. My hope for them this upcoming season is to make big improvements as a team, have fabulous programs that really set them apart that the judges and fans will appreciate and love, stay healthy, and skate superbly and clean programs in all their competitions. If I could dole out any advice for them in regards to programs is get better styling and costumes, work on their connection and characterizations for their new programs so that they are more balanced and come off as more genuine and natural, and once they have their musical selections really research the music, themes, and characters.

Another FD idea:
Thomas Crown Affair Trailer 1999: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=B3AlaszZSJU
Thomas Crown Affair Trailer 1968: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=jbcfsoPcK7w

This scene from the 1968 movie really captures the chemistry, fiery passion, playfulness, and the sensuality of the characters in the movie. It’s very a cat-and-mouse plot with two very strong characters which to me mirrors Elena and Ruslan. The character of Catherine/Vicki would be a great role for Elena…a strong woman, sensual/sexy, no-nonsense, intelligent, etc. The Thomas Crown character has this Bond vibe that Ruslan could pull off. Crown is this billionaire who’s bored with his life that he arranges a bank/art heist. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=yV0i1KEjUOE

If they chose a program like this it would really set them apart from the current FD trend (i.e. soft, flowy, ethereal, SYTYCD contemporary knock-offs, etc.). Both soundtracks have a jazz vibe which isn’t something we see much of in FDs lately. They could use some of the tracks from the 1999 version like Nina Simone’s “Sinnerman” (https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=V_mtGD0zJ54) and Sting’s version of
“Windmills of Your Mind” ( https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=7VydfUohuaM). This is Michel Legrand 1968 sound track for the “The Thomas Crown Affair.” https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=y8De60rjRR0&t=258s

I really like Sinner Man for them, but I found this on Match TV. Could some kind, available soul translate what Lena is saying, please? Her small segment starts at around 5:30. http://matchtv.ru/programms/reporter/matchtvvideo_NI722243_clip_Sportivnyj_reporter_O_sport_ty_lajk_i_Podolskije_kursanty_v_Kubke_Gagarina

Costume fitting with Ruslena :) https://www.instagram.com/p/BRMAdcnA4Rg/ I wonder if those costumes were supposed to be used in the second half of the season? The top of Elena`s dress looks pretty.

I miss them so much :sad21: Sigh, 6 months until the next test skates and hopefully a better season.

Funnily enough I envisioned Lena in a red tutu this year. I love this ballerina. She has probably my favourite Nikiya variation from the Bayadere ballet https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=SU3ncJx4t-8.

EDIT: A Medley from the Thomas Crown Affair would suit them to a T. Sting and Nina Simone.

I also really like this mash up used recently by a Junior pair. They didn't quite pull it off but I could see I/Z really selling this;https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=HF5yJ_gSrrI

What happened to them? I need to look many pages, to find this thread.
As much as I like Ruslan, I think Elena needs another partner, a strong man who suits her personality better.
I think Ruslan has a girlfriend and maybe he is not focused enough.

I saw that her ex coach Morozov got married. I didn't know his wife, but I follow her now on instagram, a gorgeous young lady who look very much like Elena! They could be twins. :luv17:

You did not accidentally confuse the daughter of Morozov (Annabel Morozov) and Vasilisa Davankova (his wife)?
