I just re-watched the SP and right at the final spin you can see Daisuke sitting in the background, commenting like the cool dude he is. Japanese media has the best seats reserved it seems. Such a nice gimmick!

Yep. I got close ups on Dai with my camera. TAT for instance is seated up in the stands and to the side. Definitely not in prime time. It's Japan's house no matter where it is in the world, lol. The amount of Japanese flags was insane (yes, I had mine).

Lol...german commentators...Können solche Augen lügen? (Can these eyes lie?...it's an idiom, idk if there is something similar in english....they love his puppy eyes, haha)

And at the end "Den muss man einfach mögen. Das ist so." (You just have to like him, that's a fact) They obviously haven't been on GS before. :laugh2:

German commentators: Er schaut so unschuldig hat es aber faustdick hinter den Ohren! (Sorry, I have no idea how to translate that...they kept mentioning his innocent eyes and youthful demeanor!)

dict cc comes up with "he's a sly old dog". So it translates to "He looks so innocent, but he's a sly old dog really." Hmm, that doesn't sound quite right applied to Shoma somehow. Dang, I'd love to watch the German version, but of course it hasn't been stored in Eurosport's archive. They only have the pairs in there. :ohwell:

I can't write anything because (yes, hard to believe) I am still speechless. It was very cool that the audience was already clapping before he went into his final series of spins. I have amnesia right now from nerves. What an amazing grandson I have. I even forgive him that he didn't wear the purple pants. No belly button or boxer briefs showing tonight. Thrilled that he and Fluffy were so happy...Between the men and the pairs. What a day!

Arriba, so good to know you're only speechless and didn't pass out! I'm so jealous of everyone, who was there in person for both the men's SP and pair's FS. Such incredible events with all of my favs bringing their A-game! Please skating gods, let this trend continue - these Worlds have the potential to go down in history as one of the most well skated competitions ever.

Video of Yuzu, Shoma and Javi SP with Dai and his co-worker commenting at the end.

Dai looked and sounded heartwarmingly happy and proud! Keeping my fingers crossed for translations of his commentary to pop up soon.

It was! That sea of flags looked very impressive on TV! And yup, Japanese TV always get their seat reservations in before everyone else. There have been complaints in Yuzu's fan-fest about Fuji TV sabotaging the skaters with their huge spotlights though. Did you perceive it that way?

Close ups of Dai? Lucky you! :luv17:

Continue to enjoy yourselves and thank you for keeping us updated, girls!!! Although the electric atmosphere translates very well even through the TV screen, your first hand reports make it all the more exciting! :2thumbs::yay:

The person next to me said "Ok, you can breathe now" after Shoma was done. I think I was turning lavender at that point from being so anxious and not breathing. What a privilege to see all these skaters come out and really bring it when it counted! My love / hate relationship with the SP continues! :drama: Knowing you aren't going to win it with the short, but you sure can lose it! Incredible pressure.

The atmosphere in the arena was electric as the Lavender Prince (in blue) came out on the ice along with the other men for the introductions. BTW, I am loving that they do these introductions, especially with some of the lesser known skaters. Helps you get to know who's who. And I've already forgiven my grandson for wearing blue. I think it makes him look more mature. No "deer in the headlights" look for this Worlds. He definitely had the "I belong here this year" look.

And I want to add that I loved that during the introductions, Shoma and Jason were the only ones clapping as each competitor was introduced! The audience was SO loud for the final flight introductions.

I think second was a good draw for Shomita. Great that he didn't have to wait around and think too much! He received huge applause as he took to the ice. The rest, :jaw: 4F good, next jumping pass I was so nervous I couldn't even remember if it was 4T/2T or 3T - so excited that it was indeed 3T {{:yahoo:}}. He has done better 3As and this one didn't have the nice distance and flow out that he usually gets and free leg was a little low -- short program, just get it done! Of course at that point he could relax a teeny bit and now continue with his glorious footwork, Uncle Dai head rolls, and spins. I remember listening to a different broadcast of another event and Tracy Wilson saying "Now at this point, this is what the judges LOVE, where he presses down into the ice and skates with deep, deep edges and such soft knees. They will surely reward this." His speed, musicality, flair, wonderful feel for the music, use of body movements (yes, body movements are transitions). What can you say but :hap57: His glorious footwork and spins -- unbelievable. Tiny amount of travel on the final spin sequence, but not bad.

Not sure if you could hear it, but the audience was already applauding before he went into his spins. WHEW! And I lived through it to talk about it. Thank you God! He was SO happy! So glad he conquered his nemesis SP. Talk about bringing it when it counts!...Hope he can hold it together in the FS...Yes, lots of Japan flags waving, mine included!

It's in the archive, that's how I rewatched it. It's incorrectly labeled as Paarlauf Kür. There are two videos, the real Paarlauf Kür of about 3 hours and another that is 43 minutes. That's the correct one. ;) Sly old dog? No...sly puppy dog, perhaps, haha.

I was in the skaters hotel watching the ladies free (I didn't have tickets for the event) and I saw Shoma come in from practice. He is so miniature but so adorable. I didn't bother him though. I want him as well rested as possible, lol.

I'll be lucky if I can get a picture with him. I did get one with Shizuka Arakawa and Takeshi Honda so maybe it's possible?

As for the spotlights, I'm not really one to judge on it. I wasn't paying much attention to them, only the skaters' every move.

^^^Darn - so jealous! I'm at the opposite end and can't see Dai. Are they sitting in the first row of the press area?

ETA -- Thought I recognized Takeshi Honda.

Dang. The guy in front of me has binoculars. I may have to borrow them. I want to see him up close!!!

I just watched Shoma's SP again. It was truly, truly beautiful. I love the music, and he did full justice to it. So glad he didn't carry his practice Ice problems into the competition, and wishing him all the best for the FS! Arriba and Dani, you are so lucky to be there!

I guess it WAS like Sk Amer -- cruddy practice, stellar performance. Wonder if vice versa holds true?! :luv17: At Sk Amer, even his 6 min. warm up right before his skate wasn't too good and then he skated beautifully. Still have to remember - if he's 1st or 21st, I have enjoyed watching his growth this season so much. And I do have to remember to breathe, since 4 mins 30 secs is a long time to go without breathing. :drama:
