Madison Chock & Evan Bates

Most of the 4CC skaters went on vacation, at this point they're all trained and ready and need to avoid burn out. Taking some time off before the final push for worlds isn't going to hurt them.
 
Refreshed is a perfect word for it. This is a good picture as well showing them looking happy & relaxed. They seem to be in a really good place together.

I agree most teams/skaters seem to have taken time off; not many were in training last week judging from their social media accounts. At this point, they are all well-trained and a mental break probably is a big help. They will all be working hard from here on out.
 
Does anybody know what arrangement of Under Pressure Madi and Evan use? I really like it and I want to listen to it
 
Madison and Evan won the PSA' s EDI award for best ice dance program at US Nationals for their FD!

March 7, 2017 – The Professional Skaters Association is pleased to announce the winners of the EDI Awards for Best Performances at the 2017 Prudential U.S. Figure Skating Championships and the 2017 Synchronized Skating Championships.
One winner was chosen from each category; Men’s, Ladies, Pairs, Dance and Synchronized Skating to honor and recognize the outstanding efforts of these skaters.
The award is based on the "total performance" with an eye to costuming, presentation, music selection, choreography, style, and technique.
Winners were determined by a committee present at nationals that reviewed all long and short programs at the junior and senior levels for each discipline

I saw that a few days ago. Really well deserved and I'm very happy they are being recognized for that stellar performance.

As I understand it, their version of Under Pressure is something their team put together with some original music/arrangement done to enhance the original Bowie/Mercury track. If you listen to the original on Spotify, you'll see where they enhanced the music, adding drums, strings, and a quiet section.
 
I like that they are always working on ways to improve their programs and freshen them up so the judges (and they) aren't doing the same programs over and over all year. I'm looking forward to seeing the changes; I almost always like the changes they put in.
 
I was very happy for them today! It was awesome to see them do their best performance of this program here, where it matters most :cheer: They really do seem to be enjoying themselves A LOT out there this season too, it's just really awesome to see :hap10:
 
It was great to see them skate with such freedom and passion. Ice dance could use more of those qualities. Good luck to Madi and Evan in the FD.
 
Felt bad for C/B but here's their FD _ https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=NvIk-R2VNbg . I hope next season they will go back to doing lyrical classical programs and choose music that's classic, just instrumental no lyrics (very restrictive) ... softer and romantic to unleash the power, lyrical, and romantic quality of their skating. Stay away from avant-garde or offbeat choices. No need to explore the other unconventional and untested styles during Olympic season ... just stick to the familiar ... don't make a lot of changes in between competitions.

So sad for Madi and Evan. I would have loved to see them on the podium.

Anyway, they are still my favorite dance team. I so respect that they push themselves and take chances. But when you take risks, mistakes are more likely. It's a wild ride with Chock and Bates. They can thrill you or break your heart. :drama:

I'll be eagerly awaiting the opportunity to cheer them on again next season. :luv17:

Agree with you, Astrid56. They have good skating skills, they are fantastic ballroom dancers, great couple chemistry, Maddie's huge physical flexibility, so they don't need loud, disjointed, avant garde type of music to showcase themselves. Show off their great skating by just doing great skating. The French had similar music for the last 3 years, they even opens up with the same old stationary lift year in year out. So, just focus on skills and levels. This is a competition, you come here to win, so, give what the judges want. For the exhibition piece, you are free to go wild. When they first chose 'Under Pressure', I was nervous. It might be fun for Christopher Dean to choreograph to, but Ice Dancing has completely revolutionalised. Next year SD is Rhumba, stick to the really tradional Rhumba, get someone like Mark Ballas (someone mentioned this in the forum and I totally agree 100%) or Derek Hough (Davies & white had Derek to help with their Olympic Quickstep SP). They are already a HOT couple, so just focus on the dance. For the FD, something lyrical/classical, their Rachmaninov was well received by the judges. They are capable of much more than needing to use over the top loud vocal music.

I still love them and am now aching badly for them after this World Champs.

I share your view regarding choreographers _ I thought Mark Ballas would be great because he purposely learned to figure skate when he choreographed for Evan Lysacek and, yes, Derek's a very good Ballroom choreographer, too. I am thinking also Karina Smirnoff _ once the #2 Ballroom dancer in the world _ she's very good with lifts (ballet and gymnastic background) and is a very good Rumba dancer. She would also be great with helping them develop their FD. Their Rachmaninoff was well received but they need a real talented dancer to help choreograph a great FD. I haven't stopped admiring them as I see great potential. They should stick to dancing that cleverly blends ice-dance elements, lifts, fresh movements/forms (beautifully balletic), and step-sequences. Enjoyed their first FD to Chopin - they should return to that style. I've noticed Evan's a great dancer and Madison's so flexible and graceful _ they should focus on highlighting these skills/talents. The Olympic year/season is not the time for experimentation_ it's the right time to utilize to the fullest those wonderful skills and talents. Anyway, they should either solicit help from Mark Ballas (maybe for their FD _ if they choose something like their 2011-12 FD) or Karina Smirnoff for their SD (she performed great Rumbas with her former Ukranian partner).

Of course, it helps if they can solidify their dances early rather than making continual improvements _ use their precious rehearsal time to fine tune execution ... ensuring mastery of the different segments of the programs. If they can confidently perform their programs, they will be less prone to mistakes ... unwanted mishaps.
