2016-17 State of Russian Ladies skating

Exactly. She's been working so hard all this season. This is her life. It is like World ending for her. It's like people only want to see the pure joy of someone cheering after a great skate, but are embarassed when someone breaks down after a huge failure. Anna knew what that performance meant, she knows she is expendable in her own country. She isn't stoic or able to hold back her tears in that moment, and that breakdown was very genuine.

It's not like a Carolina Kostner break down, who has chance after chance, because of her nationality. Anna is an emotional girl capable of great emoting. I would've been very surprised if she just shrugged it off. But even then with her 'forced' smile in the KnC she knew the audience had her back. It was very heartwarming the way the cheered her up. Compare this to her other KnC after a bad skate. I think she's tougher than she's been in 2015. And if she doesn't make it to the Olympics, well, than that's horrible, but as a 20 year old she has matured. She will survive. And maybe even take the Gold at next years Championships if the Olympians don't compete.

She's actually 18

Elena R has good reason to hope for next season, but it's really time for her to get a new coach. Her packaging/choreo/movement needs an overhaul. When she's clean international judges will overlook her unrefined style because she's so charismatic, but she'd get more love with more refinement.

She doesn't need to change the coach necessarily but i'd spend few weeks with a former ice dancer / choreographer (Marina Zueva or Peter Tchernyshev) to work on the skating skills and the posture.

Peter did an amazing job with Maria, she is a completely different skater than last season.

Having said that, i was pretty much ready to not enjoy Lena's programs anymore, but i saw her ex program at TAT Anniversary and she was beautiful.

Maybe with a classical piano piece she could perform better.

Or something similar to her EX Imagine, it was really well received.

She may not have had the pressure to win but she did have tons of pressure all the same. She wasn't expected to win but I bet the fed. thought she should medal or at worse come real close. She knows that too and probably expected the same which is why she was so heartbroken at the end.

The competition in Russia is tough and a skater can be dropped fast. She can't afford to lose the support of the federation even by a little. She has a history of meltdowns and that was supposedly behind her and now it rears its ugly head again. The fed. know her history and her performance here will definitely not escape their eye. If it comes down to petty points at nationals next year this meltdown at worlds can easily make a difference.

As for her being 2nd best senior girl in Russia? That sounds more like fan opinion then fact and Russian nationals prove it. In their eyes its probably Evgenia #1 and then everybody else in a blood bath. It appears they personally like Sotskova over her as well. Anna has never been solidly on the team and there has always been somebody else of the moment above her. The only reason she has made it where she is is because of her fighting spirit and the downfall of others. A few youngsters coming up and Olympic eligible is not a good thing for her. Her position is not safe at all and she can easily be left off the Olympic team.

I agree I think Evgenia is no 1 everyone else blood bath. I do think Anna was no2 but not super strongly. However if I am the Russian fed, Sotskova would be high up my list. Because she's slightly more reliable.

Apparently the fed named Elena to WTT?!

I hope Anna comes back made of steel next season ugh 💔 They've been dying to push her aside and now feel justified in their actions.

Poor Anya but to be honest, maybe it's not a bad decision: she needs few weeks to recover from this while Elena was very close to make the world team replacing Maria Sotskova.

Hoping to be able to see Anna P have a way to finish her season at WTT with performances that make her feel satisfied so that she can turn the page into the Olympic season with no feelings of regret.

I think, a very smart move to send Radionova to WTT. She has had a weak season so far. She has 3 months of training since the Nationals. The question is if she is better than in December or not. If yes, and she gets at least to her last season's self then she is still in the contention for the Oly. If she fails it would be hard to imagine that a miracle happens between now and GP series. I frankly don't see such a miracle for Liza any more. But I root for Elena.

2 months, actually. You forgot that she participated at Winter Universiade 2017 in Almaty two months ago. Where she won but with the same bad skate as at Nationals. Maybe even worse.

Yes, you are right. If there is the time for her to start coming back this time has come.

I agree it is smart to give other skaters a chance, but they could have word it in a nicer and more encouraging way. Like Anna did really well this season and already had a long season, we think it would be in her benefit to take a break to prepare herself better for the new season, and would like to give our other great skaters a chance for the WTT.

Elena will go in with a more positive mindset instead of oh i am only here as a substitude because they are punishing Anna.

And what is your evidence that they punish Anna? She was on the list and was replaced the last minute? May be she is injured?

god.... how tough is it ...
I'm so happy for Elena :hap10:
in the same time
I am disappointed about Anna...

I read it on facebook, follow the link i added on top.

I looked up the fsrussia.ru and found the following:

After Helsinki the decision was taken to give time and opportunity to the athlete to recover from psychological injury and prepare for the new season. Fed's leadership and experts think that it would be hard for Anna to compete at WTT because too little time is between it and the worlds. There are no any other reasons that were given by the media. And moreover no one considered emotions and stress of the athlete right after the free program. This all can be expalined and clear from a human standpoint.

So, this looks more plausible than the "punishment". She had meltdowns before and not only she. There would have been "punisment", I think, if Russia had lost the third spot. But this did not happen.

That link leads only to a reporters opinion with unnamed "sources", and nothing official. I really wouldn't believe that so easily
