The ice shows schedules are coming and coming. They announced DoI, early july, don't think Yuzuru would be on it though.

I would not say he is the standard, pretty sure there are plenty russian ice dancers or pairs that could be defined as more "balletic". It is just that from I remember it is after don quixote people start to refer to the term balletic. Skaters before him are more stiff imo, with hunched back.

Fresca, it's so interesting to hear your takes on figure skating and ballet, and your open-mindedness towards different forms of movement. Thank you for sharing your expertise and unique point of view, your posts are always an interesting read that makes me appreciate dance, ballet, and figure skating even more. :)

I also can't thank everyone who has contributed live reports, translations, video sharing, rants , and everything else. It's always nice when this thread is bursting with positive energy. :)

Hey guys! Yuzu is keeping the streak alive. Been breaking a world record every year since he was 17

17 - Skate America 2012 SP / NHK Trophy 2012 SP
18 - GPF 2013 SP
19 - Olympics SP
20 - 2015 NHK Trophy SP/FS/Total
21 - 2016 GPF SP/FS/Total

The one thing that I never got is why many people considered Hanyu inconsistent. He's very consistent. I mean he's consistently on the podium for the past like five years. The only time he finished off the podium was in 2014 at the NHK trophy when he was in 4th. So far when Hanyu makes mistakes it hasn't cost him the podium it's just cost him the win.(examples: 2017 4CCs, 2016 Worlds.)
Other men make mistakes and fall right off the podium (Chan, Nathan, Fernandez,Shoma)
What I'm trying to say is that in terms of results Hanyu is the most consistent of the men.

At Men's no one is really consistent. The high level prevents it. So when Yuzuru had those magical two clean programs in 2015 and repeated them at the GPF that was something really special. But I have to correct you, Shoma was on the podium at every competition he entered this season, he doesn't fall right off the podium, even when he makes mistakes.

People who claimed Yuzu to be inconsistent are just dumb. He's in fact the most consistent one; see: SC silver medals collection on his bedroom wall hahaha
Joke aside, his pattern in every season is actually really consistent. He always bombed the 1st GP, gradually improved, peaked at GPF, exhausted at Nats and then worn out at Worlds. That's why this season Yuzu and his team were trying their best to shift his peak at Worlds bc well his pattern has always been the same since Sochi 2014 (I only became his fan after Sochi). I just don't get why people are still being dramatic about Yuzu not winning his 1st gp tbh. And how can u call someone inconsistent when he casually breaking the WRs every season????

A few words about BBC.

So Robin Cousins and the she who shall not be named.

After the skate was over - Shivers. That was sublime. It's going to get a huge, huge score. Talked about the 1 point deduction in the SP due to the time (I get the feeling he thinks that's bs, they mentioned it was the same as for a fall).
He said it was sensational. He said then, no one will, even Javi, will not have the delicacy of his jumping. That his technique is delicate, even if he's doing quads, they are light and elegant. Then he talked about no tension in his upper body when he jumps, or when he skates anyway. What command!

Don't worry Winnie! Gladi and I are downloading absolutely everything. We are on it!

Excerpts from articles:

Japan's Hanyu wins world figure skating title for second time
Hanyu had been trailing in fifth after the short programme, but pulled out a best-ever score in the free skate to reclaim the title he won in 2014.

Bears and gifts rained down on the ice after his performance at a capacity-packed Hartwall Arena in Helsinki and he wiped tears from his eyes as he watched his scores appear.

"After the short programme I was so disappointed and down, but the fans and team helped lift me," said Hanyu, who scored 321.59 points.
"I could hear the crowd roaring me on, not just the many Japanese in the crowd but everybody supporting me was very impressive," said Hanyu.

"I demonstrated everything I was capable of, my whole package. I wanted to do five quads but did not have enough energy."
"I have very warm memories about Finland as I won my first international competition here when I was a kid," recalled Hanyu after improving on his own world-record score in the free skate at the 2015 Grand Prix final by 3.72 points.

Olympic champion Hanyu wins world figure skating title
"After the short program, I was quite depressed. I was so deeply depressed," he said. "But the fans and the team believed in me."

Still, Hanyu suggested his struggles in Thursday's short program could foreshadow problems for his hopes of winning a second Olympic gold.

"I still feel it's very difficult to put out two clean programs," he said. "Toward the Olympic season, I think it's important to skate clean both in the short and the free, these two programs together."

Hanyu claims second career gold at worlds with spectacular comeback; Uno grabs silver
"I feel very regretful from my short program, so I have to train more and more," said Hanyu.

"Because I was concentrating for all I was worth on each and every element, it’s like I’ve forgotten how it went."

He added: "Finally, I can say I’ve worked hard, but maybe I need more (ahead of next year’s Pyeongchang Olympics)."

Hanyu reclaims world title with majestic free skate
"I was so depressed after the short program," Hanyu explained. "I'm grateful that my team and my fans kept believing in me. They helped me achieve this program."

As soon as he ended his performance, the 2014 Olympic gold medalist received a thundering standing ovation, and the ice surface was instantly filled with flowers and plush toys.

"My music is rather quiet -- it doesn't make people cheer -- but this time I could hear nonstop applause after my spin, and I was impressed to realize how much the whole crowd, not only the Japanese, supported me," Hanyu said.

WRAPUP 1-Figure skating-Hanyu dethrones Fernandez to win world title
After watching Hanyu draw a masterpiece on ice with his blades, Orser was caught mouthing "Wow", and it was a sentiment shared by the roaring Japanese fans who showed their appreciation by hurling an avalanche of Winnie-the-Pooh stuffed toys on to the ice.

Despite the record score, Hanyu ominously declared: "It's great to beat my own world record by three points but I can get even higher scores."

Dazzling Free Skate Lifts Yuzuru Hanyu to World Title
"Yuzu just went to another place today, and you can’t put yourself there," said Tracy Wilson, who coaches him in Canada with Brian Orser. "You just put yourself into the training and hope you end up there."
When something is taken away from you, that is so motivating," she said of Hanyu’s failure to win the gold medal in the last two world championships. "To be just 19 and Olympic champion, you’re learning lessons on the fly. And he’s remarkable in how he’s learned and in his strength of character in going after it and staying with it. Even with adding the quad loop and doing four quads, we talked to him about it and asked, ‘Do you really need it? Why not the quad loop with three quads and then add in?’

"And his answer was, ‘This is why I do this. I want to push the sport. I want to push myself.' "
"Scientifically, someone told me that five rotations in the air is a possibility, but the I.S.U. don’t even have scores for that," Hanyu said, referring to quintuple jumps and the sport’s governing body, the International Skating Union. "The reason we have so many types of quad today is because of Boyang. No doubt he’s the one who pushed us all, because he did the quad Lutz and a classic, clean performance, and we realized you can do the quad Lutz. It’s humanly possible. So he’s responsible for pulling us all up to the level we’re at today."

space kitten was intending to do a 5th quad dependent on how he felt after 3A-2T. He felt too tired. Guesses?

--------------------------------------
#badbrainmessytranslations

YH reviewed his performance, yet to have calmed down from the excitement of winning.

Q: It’s your first clean LP this season. What were your thoughts at the end of the competition?

YH: I thought I enjoyed the free at World Championship. I thought about doing a 5th quad if I felt good after 3A-2T, but I was too tired.

Q: Amidst the ups and downs of conditioning, how were you showing steady performance? (sorry #badtrans..)

YH: I thought it when I gave clean performances at NHK and GPF last season, but it’s hard to be clean. Mentally, and peaking of physical strength/stamina that must be matched to each competition. I feel that adjustment is difficult. In my current layout, it’s not that I can feel technically confident in the loop yet. Another step/level is difficult.

Q: It was a performance that flowed from beginning to the very end. What’s your consciousness towards the jumps?

YH About the 4S and 4T, I was very focused. As I was doing it, I felt like wind, as if I had jumped into a river… as if I am enveloped by nature. I was in a good, focused state.

Q: You controlled the amount of practice in this morning’s practice

YH I had regrets from SP, so I wanted to practice, but there wasn’t much time in between OP and the real thing, so Brian held me down. Although my legs felt tired at the 6-min warmup, I did a little final adjustment and managed to maintain my stamina.

I just listened to french eurosport commentary and it was actually pretty good ? They were all in awe, and I think there was Florent Amodio commenting, saying how it is Yuzuru who pushed the sport this last years while he could just have kept 2 quads and win everything effortlessly since Sochi... And Alban (I think ?) who didn't like H&L the whole season said that when it was skated like that it was just the most beautiful free program of all times.
I'll try to do a proper translation later, but now sadly (;) ) I have a family I musttake care of :)

Looks like CBC also posted their commentary-free video on youtube, together with Patrick's FS: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=MJ6A5X9HDZ0

talking about french commentary, france2 just shows the last men's group with our "mythic trio" Phillippe Candeloro, Nelson Monfort, Annick Dumont , Annick who was not feeling this LP at GPF ( she said that his EX was so much better than his free ^_^) just said here "this is one of the most beautiful program that we have ever see " she was so impressed and Philippe too . Then even interview Yuzu after and it was hilarious , with the not so good english from Philippe and Nelson who was translating in French at the same time Yuzuru was talking ...simply hilarious

I can add in France 2 Channel, Annick Dumont said it was the most beautiful FS of all the time. Candeloro did a very quick interview of Yuzu and said he is even above a god. If people are interested in hearing french commentary with Monfort, Candeloro and Annick Dumont, we can try to put his FS video.

I'll upload it into my google drive since I downloaded it.

Here is the video, but I'm afraid that it's geobloked:( http://www.rtve.es/alacarta/videos/programa/tdp-patinaje-japones/3964291/
Ok here we go:

- Paloma:Here it is Yuzuru Hanyu. He has 4 quads and even though he failed his jump combo at the SP, and because of this he is at the 5th place, but if he does the program well, he can obtain, as you see, more than 200 points. And I wouldn't discard him for the podium.
The program starts.
-Paloma: First, 4Lo
-Paloma: 4S. Masterly.
-Paloma: 3F
-Paloma : 4S3T. He goes for it!
- Paloma : YES! 4T. He didn't have anything to lose.
-Paloma : 3A2T!!
- Paloma : ( she's ecstatic) Bfff 3Alo3S. Yuzuru wants the title.
-Paloma : Ina bauer and triple luzt!!! UHHH
- Susana : UAAAU!! UAU! UAAAU!
- Paloma: This is incredible! Incredible!
-Susana :Ole!!
- Paloma :At your feet, Mr Hanyu. At your feet! (This is kinda a spanish expression like huge praise)
- Susana: What he has done!
- Paloma :What he has done! What a capacity of concentration, what he has done! What Yuzuru Hanyu has done!!
- Susana: And you've seen that I had no words, I have you saying all, because it was amazing.
- Paloma: Everything was perfect. All the scores are positive. Look at the tech score 125!! A boy who has earned at the GPF a score above 200 points, but here he's obtained almost 126 points.
- Susana: Perfect.
- Paloma: The place of the body in his jumps, all the elements executed, jumps, spins, footsteps, all of them with possitive GOE, almost hitting the 10 in interpretation. What a class and spirit, but above all, what mind!
- Susana: What a mind to support all the pressure of this group, starting first, of course he didn't have anything to lose and a lot to win, he's gonna win a lot, what a technique, the position, the jumps were all clean with the glide, the spins, the stepsq all of them level 4, of course, what a pleasure to watch!
- Paloma: Wonderful to watch a skating like that.
- Susana: Awesome!
- Paloma: And he opens this group from the 5th place, and now he has to wait, because I think this program is gonna be difficult to surpass. Everything was perfect, look at the recap, how he was super concentrated, controlling it,gliding, floating and besides in each jump, the body was in a perfect position.
- Susana: An incredible edge, 4S3T look what ease, with what serenity he exits the jumps, 4T perfect, he nails it.
-Paloma: The Ina Bauer, wonderful, wonderful. The best Yuzuru Hanyu, this boy never stops to amaze me. What a finesse, harmony, this boy transmits peace. And he always is so thankful to Brian Orser and Tracy Wilson, and beacuse now it isn't Javier turn, if not he would stay to watch Javier and he would ask for silence for Javier because they train together. Just beautiful. 223,20 points whoa. Look at his face, I don't know if he expected less points, but he's surprised. Look at him, poor thing, he's really excited and he goes to the first place and now they'll have to beat him.

Patrick's and Yuzuru's free programs. Probably already posted by someone else earlier in the thread. Yuzuru starts at about 7:56.

Was able to watch Yuzuru at around 10:00 a.m. EDT on YouTube, but that video has disappeared. :(

https://youtu.be/5WgLMlSKVWA My record of the six minutes practice before FS. Sorry for the shakiness and low quality. I m too excited. It is not fully focus on yuzu because my seating can't see the corner on the other end, so a small part of it is focus on Shoma kun.

An article in Finnish about Yuzu fans:
Hanyu hypähti vapaaohjelman ennätyspisteillä maailmanmestariksi –  nalleja satoi jäälle

Looks like our Alia Jackson was interviewed.

Google translate:
Hanyu jumped to a free program record for points World Champion - it rained teddy bears on the ice

Two different parts of the world, spreading from Winnie the Puhia decided to use adjacent seats on the Helsinki Arena on Saturday. Both Winnie Puhit was made in China, the second was come to sale in Toronto, the other in Singapore. First Pooh way was passed through Paris, Helsinki Arena, the other had traveled to a direct flight from Singapore, and both had the same objective: to get Yuzuru Hanyun lap.

Hanyu, 22, is a figure skating Olympic champion, world champion, the home country of Japan figure skating inspirer of enthusiasm - and the fans of Winnie the Pooh boost for FSF. Hanyu already brought in junior competitions once a teddy bear decorated with pictures amulet handkerchief package of good fortune and began to wait Judges points Winnie the Pooh soft toy under his arm.

- He's a great skater, very inspiring. And he is really cute, Alia Jackson said. Jackson had brought from Singapore Winnie the Pooh and himself "Yuzua" to encourage.

Beside him sat born in China but now lives in Brooklyn Cui in Toronto, which also was in his arms Winnie the Pooh.

- Yuzu is only a year older than me. It is difficult to find people of the same generation, who would be so inspiring. I believe that we are all very proud of the fact that we encourage him, Cui said.

Figure skating races, has traditionally been thrown onto the ice after the presentation of flowers, but in recent years plush toys have become increasingly popular. Hanyun after each competition performance on the ice to fly loads of Winnie Puheja.

"Makes very happy"

Every fan's dream is to own Winnie the Pooh would end up "Yuzun 'hands, but the competition for places in the favorite toy is merciless. World Championships race organizers, recruited by junior skaters gathered thrown onto the ice flowers and plush toys refuse sacks. Each sack was noted to whom the content is thrown, and skaters can go out picking what they want.

The majority of the world's ice thrown Winnie the speeches did not come close to Yuzua, but ends up in charity.

- Of course it would be great if Yuzu got my Puhini, but it does not matter even if it would not fly either. I know that they will go to the children, Jackson said.

Jackson said he was the first time in a remote way behind Hanyun, and not interest him by none other than men's race.

- I'm here for a week. The most important thing is to see Yuzu, the second most important thing to see Helsinki, Jackson said.

Cui told reporters earlier trip to Japan to toss the Pooh's favorite. Kisa There he realized that Yuzu had canceled its participation.

- It's ok, Cui acknowledged wasted trip.

Hanyu rolled his free program four successful neloishyppyä and took the men's world championship just over two points ahead of the husband shoma Uno. The competition was a complete management in Asia, as China Boyang Jin race reached the bronze medal.

After the short program competition led to the reigning world champion Javier Fernandez dropped a free program for fourth. Spain's double world champion fell a free program to numerous errors.

How it became soft toys?

When Hanyu still posed for the index finger erect the end of the program, and rushed Jackson Cui eighth katsomoriviltä the edge of the trough hurls their own Puhinsa among dozens of others on the ice.

Their fate was the same as everyone else's Puhien: they ended up instead Yuzun cylinder charity.

- I'm really glad that I can get so much Winnie Puheja. I picked them myself, but I feel the public's support and it makes me very happy, Hanyu responded to STT's to question the fate of Puhien.

From an interview with Stephan Lambiel
http://www.sport-express.ru/figure-...pokazal-nastoyaschiy-spektakl-na-ldu-1237563/

The technique is the most crucial factor now, along with athleticism and stamina - you can't jump quads without them. But the emotional factor and the artistic is just as important - you have to live through every single moment of your program, to feel it. And you have to combine it with executing a whole array of most difficult elements. It's hard work which only a few elect can do - that's why the leading group isn't so big. Only a very talented skater who was lucky to be born hard-working as well can cope with it.

And who do you think combines it best of all.
The result shows it's Yuzuru. He put up a whole theatrical performance on the ice both in his short and in his long programmes. He's such a talent in many aspect, he's a natural: he's incredibly musical, you can't teach that. He steps onto the ice, you look at him and forget about everything - about time, people around you, who's been performing before. It's incredible.

John Wilson Blades tweeted that Yuzu is the GOAT. #recognize

:eek:topic: Pooh is looking great! :luv17: He looks freshly dry-cleaned and so fluffy! I saw Yuzu giving him some soft squishes in the KnC when he was waiting for his score. So sweet.

Dazzling Free Skate Lifts Yuzuru Hanyu to World Title
“Yuzu just went to another place today, and you can’t put yourself there,” said Tracy Wilson, who coaches him in Canada with Brian Orser. “You just put yourself into the training and hope you end up there.”
“After the short program, I was quite depressed, so deeply depressed,” Hanyu said. “But I think my fans and the team believed in me, so I think that’s why I was able to pull off this performance today.”

He was alone on the ice, however, and also the one who, according to Wilson, made the big decisions that led to Saturday’s victory.

“When something is taken away from you, that is so motivating,” she said of Hanyu’s failure to win the gold medal in the last two world championships. “To be just 19 and Olympic champion, you’re learning lessons on the fly. And he’s remarkable in how he’s learned and in his strength of character in going after it and staying with it. Even with adding the quad loop and doing four quads, we talked to him about it and asked, ‘Do you really need it? Why not the quad loop with three quads and then add in?’

“And his answer was, ‘This is why I do this. I want to push the sport. I want to push myself.’”
Hanyu gave credit in particular to Jin, the powerful Chinese teenager, but also talked about what may come next.

“Scientifically, someone told me that five rotations in the air is a possibility, but the I.S.U. don’t even have scores for that,” Hanyu said, referring to quintuple jumps and the sport’s governing body, the International Skating Union. “The reason we have so many types of quad today is because of Boyang. No doubt he’s the one who pushed us all, because he did the quad Lutz and a classic, clean performance, and we realized you can do the quad Lutz. It’s humanly possible. So he’s responsible for pulling us all up to the level we’re at today.”
“If he skates a clean short and a clean long, I might think he might be unbeatable,” Fernández said of Hanyu.

A few moments later, Hanyu arrived in the interview area, hugged Fernández, removed the shiny new gold medal from his own neck and placed it around the Spaniard’s.

But there was no doubt on Saturday about where it really belonged.

;) we never had anyone who came back from 5th to win back a World Title. This win of Yuzuru is not just a normal win, it is historical. :drama:

Once again you proved , that you are great champion, coming back from 5th place to take the gold, congratulations Yuzuru!!! 💪🏻💪🏻💪🏻

Kurt was complimentary. Throughout the broadcast he has been talking about how perfect his landings were (vs, boyang's), how when he is in the zone he is unstoppable, even when he was bowing it was more like he was conducting the audience, rather than bowing... when he does a complete program like that the judges have to throw the marks at him etc.. He actually was pretty quiet throughout the program which I appreciated....

And did talk about shoma's pre rotation on the ice!!!

The NY Times posted an article about Yuzuru! So cool that such a prominent newspaper wrote about him ^0^ I love how humble Yuzu is despite just having the skate of his life.

According to this article, Yuzu will compete at WTT.

Worlds 2017 LP
Alexander Grishin and Fyodor Klimov
Gr: Now all your attention to the ice, please – best of the best. Yuzuru Hanyu from Japan, World Champion and Olympic Champion, is only the 5th after the SP, but it’s the FP which is decisive. The music is by Joe Hisaishi for this season for Hanyu. Let’s start.
Kl: An immaculately clean 4Lo! 4S.
Gr: He flies somewhere to the skies!
(then they fall silent and keep silent for a minute after the skate is done – for sheer shock, I think)
Kl: I think this needs no comments. Any person, even if he/she is no expert in FS, understands this was a genius skating. Everything was done ideally – there’s nothing to commentate here, everything was the highest level. And we along with the whole audience give him a standing ovation.
Gr: Everyone who’s present gives a standing ovation to the genius of world figure skating. I think I won’t be mistaken when I say that we won’t see anything like this even in this group. The fight for the first place isn’t yet over, of course – Hanyu wasn’t the first in the SP. But surpassing this skate will be nearly impossible. And after the competition, at home – either in Toronto or Japan – Hanyu will have around 90 per cent of global Winnie the Pooh resources
Kl: Yeah, we joked with our friends yesterday that today it will rain Winnie the Poohs…
Gr: Yes, it has rained and is continuing to rain… Hanyu can give one Pooh bear a day to charities and he’ll have enough to last him three years. Love Japanese anime? You’ll have a golden collection from the various competitions of World Championship dimension… Four quads, each one of perfect quality – a loop, 2 salchows and a toe-loop – that’s what Yuzuru Hanyu jumped in his LP. Brian Orser gave him such hugs. That was very touching and just what Yuzuru deserved. No, world records weren’t over with Evgenia Medvedeva’s skate – what Hanyu has shown here – I won’t use too many adjectives here like divine – but it was brilliant. So now we just remember and try to understand the figures which will come up on the boards now. He overcomes his own record by 3.5 points – that’s a new world record. Not the accumulated score, but he’s best in the LP score. 223.20. 321.50. It’s the first time I’ve seen a Hanyu record in the arena itself. A historic competition.

Yuzu is almost 1.000 points above the second place in the World Standings ranking (Shoma). I know it doesn't mean much but the numbers are lovely to see anyway.

Ok the Gala schedule is out. Yuzuru is the last to skate.

I am also going to giggle a bit at that list, excuse me now.

My friend Max at WC just told me this through message:
ALSO he passed by us for some reason, they were going somewhere...and he is about my height. He is about 1m76

TSL interview with Brian Orser. Some interesting Yuzu tidbits, which include Brian thinking 4Lz won't be necessary.

Brian said he got music selected for Yuzu already hmm.

ETA : But from this he said "I am not sure what Yuzu mindset is/what his plan is for moving ahead." (actually after re-listening, I do not know if Brian meant 1. what will Yuzuru's layout be for Pyeongchang or 2. Will Yuzuru keeps skating after Pyeongchang, But context-wise, looks like 1 because Dave was talking about 4F/4Lz beforehand). But Brian thinks he does not need 4F/4Lz to win, but then again from his tone it seems he is not against it. He just said it is better to do it after the olympics (from his tone he actually said it is actually necessary to train 4Lz after oly lol).
(Orser said he will go to Bali after singapore before going to Japan for WTT FYI lol so he will have a vacation in Bali instead of Japan. Good job, coach! Next season will be crazy have some free time. )

:hap57: Thanks very much for your kind words!

I did ballet for many years before trying different styles (mostly hip hop, jazz, contemporary and some ballroom). Once you move outside of ballet, the mindset that ballet should be the golden standard is very limiting even in jazz and contemporary which borrow plenty from ballet.

Also thanks to everyone for the updates and translations! I'm loving the reactions of different commentators to his FS and the follow-up news/interviews leading up to WTT. The ultimate icing on the cake would be to get some practice footage of 4A or 4Lz
