Nathan Chen

Thank you, matmuh. You updated Nathan's competitive records up to 2017 World Championships.

glad to see someone checking OP :yahoo:  i still need to add articles and threads but feeling too lazy :slink: but its off season and will have a lot of time

Yeah, thanks for the hard work, matmuh! Nathan's official website is updated pretty regularly and has a couple of old videos I hadn't seen before. One is from the WIWA ice show he did in China and another one is an experimental program called, "Nathan and the Spider."

when i was updating his OP it was very easy compared to other threads that i have, cause his website and wikipedia page is so neat and updated, its very easy to find the info you are looking for :luv17: correct me if i am wrong but i think they was asked about his wiki page during TSL interview last year and he said his mom handles it, well done mom!!!

I think it might be his mom who does the wiki because the English is not quite perfect. ;)

On the other hand the English on his official page is fine so probably someone else takes care of that. At the bottom it says "written and produced by Nathan Chen" so it's possible he does it himself.

Ouch, both men's short and free events are in evenings, which is the worst time of a day with that jet lag. Hope Nathan doesn't fall asleep in the mid of his quads :scratch2:::noshake:

Has Nathan mentioned keeping his programs for next season? I love both of them (and the costumes) and I hope he keeps at least one

Nathan needs some extra special programs for the Olympic season. Although I like his programs, I have high hopes for something even better.

He should definitely keep his free program costume. Everyone knows red coats are the new blue dress :dance2:

All joking aside, I don't think it'd be very strategically wise to keep either of his programs for next season. If they keep the ballet variation angle Marina is perfectly capable of producing another clever and appropriate program. I think the key is to find something that projects well enough but allows Nathan to stay very focused on his jumps.

This is an interview I found on Weibo that Nathan did after 4CC. He hadn't decided on anything yet as far as programs for next season, but he thinks he might want to try for something a little different. He also talks a little about Boyang, Patrick, and Yuzuru. The questions are all written in Chinese so I'm not exactly sure what was being asked but I think that's the gist.

Thanks for posting that interview. :) I like listening to him talk - he's pretty succinct but very sure of himself. I thought it was cool - yesterday, Chelsea Clinton retweeted the Time Magazine article about him and called it incredible. :luv17:

Also, I'm definitely curious to see what he'll do next season. I anticipate Marina doing both programs because the short was so well-received, but I wonder if Rafael/Nadia will still do one of them. I would like to see him do something a little bit more modern - I don't think he's ready to perform like Josh Farris but something in the vein of his "Give Me Love" program would be awesome. Something that's just a little younger but could still be seen as mature.

^^^I think it was Nadia who did his Michael Jackson program, which I really liked. He really needs something that doesn't look like jumpnastics. He is SO talented and can rise to the occasion for whatever choreographic challenges they give him. I can't wait to see what they come up with!

Yeah, I loved the Michael Jackson one too. :) I know he liked it and I know Raf liked it (he mentioned it in the Ice Talk interview I think, talking about how he thought that was an amazing program.) I think when he has something a bit more fun and upbeat, he can perform it out a little more. Since he's gotten a few more years of maturity and experience under his belt, I think something along those lines would be good.

Well the red coat didn't help too much in the freeskate... I guess people would grab the opportunity to call him lazy artistically, if he keeps his programs which might be why he wants to change a bit. But he needs to keep the ballet theme. Those arms are dreamy.

Well, it wouldn't be exactly the same costume but he could do a Nutcracker program dressed as a wooden soldier. The Japanese fans wouldn't be able to resist the cuteness!

And his second program should be more modern. Just stay way from Michael Buble!

In case you are wondering what questions were being asked, here is a (literal) translation of the questions asked:

1. You landed 4 types of quads this season. How did you achieve that?
2. Starting from this season, you trained with Zoeva, how did she help you?
3. How did you decide on the music for this season's short program and long program?
4. Do you like figure skating the most?
5. Do you have any hobbies outside of skating?
6. Your view on Boyang Jin?
7. Is Boyang's presence some kind of pressure to you?
8. At this four continent championship, you beat Yuzuru Hanyu and won the gold medal, what do you think about that?
9. If you can gain a speciality from Yuzuru Hanyu, what would you like to gain?
10. What do you think about the "Lucky Chen" phenomenon in North America this year? (I think "Lucky Chen" is referring to Patrick, Nathan and Karen winning the national championships of Canada and USA this year and they all have the same last name Chen.)
11. What's your impression of China and Asia?
12. How are you going to prepare for the world championship after this?
13. Your current health state
14. What do you think about next season's music?
15. Do you plan to add any Chinese element to your future programs?
16. About 2022 Beijing Olympics

I think it is referring to Nathan & Karen. Not Patrick, whose name is "Chan." There were more athletes named Chen at U.S. Nationals, however. One of whom was Karen's brother, who won silver in intermediate dance. And another of whom--I believe--finished toward the bottom in novice dance.

Chan and chen are the same in chinese. They did a article about the chen family dominating North American nationals. Patrick was included since he also won his nationals.
