I can't believe it's taken this long for Mishin to be inducted when Carroll and Tarasova have been there for years. Disgraceful.

That can be said about Yagudin who retired from competition in 2003. I'd thought why it took so long for Yagudin (14 years!), one of the all-time best skaters to be inducted. I looked up the list and found that he is the first Russian inductee as an Olympic champion in men's single discipline.

Coach Bin Yao is the pioneer of Chinese pair skating, but has not been inducted yet. Grishuk and Platov are the only two-time Olympic champions in dance, but I wonder when they are going to be inducted as well.

Strangely, Gordeeva and Grinkov were elected in 1995, the very next year after their Olympic gold medal in 1994. I had thought that there was a waiting period (5 years?)

Unless you count Nikolay Panin, who won Russia's first ever OGM in 1908 in Special Figures. This was the only time that Special Figures was contested as an Olympic event.

Maybe because their amateur and professional career were considered to be good enough for the accolade at that time?

Yes, I saw his name on the list (I never heard of him before) and he didn't participate and win the men's discipline after all while Ulrich Salchow (more famous for salchow jump than his impressive career) won the event. Though Panin is Russia's first OGM, but technically speaking he isn't the first Russian Olympic champion in men's single. Tricky, isn't it? Anyway, I'm super excited about my heroes and heroine, Yagudin and Shen/Zhao's induction to the Wall and they are the legends that made me fall in love with men and pair disciplines.

Mishin is a true Russian. He didn't want to move and work in US despite the fact he was invited. Tarasova lived there and she was the coach of one of the most popular female skaters in US.

Congratulations to everybody. All of them are legends.

LOL, and Tarasova isn't a true Russian? Because she decided to help skaters internationally instead of just sticking to her own? What say you of Mishin training Kostner?

Also, to say it's a disgrace Mishin wasn't inducted before Tarasova is rather far-fetched... she's coached more World and Olympic champions than anyone in history - and, unlike Mishin, across every discipline. Of course, Mishin has taught some of the best technique, but she has packaged numerous skaters and transformed them into winning champions. She is THE definitive Russian coach.

As for Carroll, he's coached a greater number of skaters to World and Olympic medals well before Mishin (and Mishin's primary successes have been Plushenko, Urmanov, Gachinski and Tuktamysheva).

Mishin's induction will come soon though, it would be ridiculous if he weren't.

Congrats to Yags and Shen/Zhao!! Three of my fave skaters ever!

Mishin is also elected now. But no one said that is disgrace Mishin wasn't elected before Tarasova. I just said Mishin's election was too late.
Yes, Yagudin was OG Champion and 3 times World Champion under Tat's coaching ( the first was under Mishin) but to deny that he learned the jumps and he used that jumptechnic in his whole career what he learned from Mishin is an untrue thing. Tat didn't change his jumps. And Yagudin was false when he said he became Oly champ because of Tarasova, solely.
You forgot about Urmanov. Mishin was his coach, too.

Tarasova isRussian, but she chose the greener field when she moved to US. And she could be elected earlier because of her coaching there.

Who are Tat's Oly champion pair and woman skaters? :scratch2: - oh, I checked..I thought Arakawa was Morozov's pupil, and I didn't know G/G's coach was also Tat .

Tarasova got in first because of excellence in all disciplines + programs that embody music and don't look a mess, unlike Mishin's.

Yeah, but she and Zaitsev was with TAT most of their career if I am not wrong?

I don't know. I just know Zaitsev was her second partner....

Zhuk was their coach when she skated with Ulanov- one OG champion title

Tarasova was their coach when she was paired with Zaitsev -two OG champ titles

The HOF members seem very North American-centric. Orser is there (in 2009, prior to coaching Yuna to OGM) but not Petrenko? Personally, I'd have anyone who won at least one OGM and one WGM there; Baiul, Lipinski, and Arakawa are deserving. Yamaguchi basically had two strong seasons like those skaters and is there (although she did win Worlds twice).

Here is an interesting fact. None of her partners were listed to the HOF, but Rodnina were solely inducted in 1989 while Arthur Dmitriev's both partners were elected together two years ago. I wonder whether Zaitsev who won two OGM together with Rodnina was really less deserving the induction than Kazakova who only competed with Arthur for 3 years.

Is this Hall of Fame in FS really important? It doesn't seem to be so.

Well, every time new inductees are announced, I've seen at least a couple of article from reputable media are published. :)

karne did in her post (you Thumbs Up'ed it, so I assume you'd read it?).

And yup, Arakawa and G&G (and Mao coming 2nd in Vancouver, with 3 triple axels, was an impressive feat that you know Tatiana was instrumental in).
