Yuzuru Hanyu: 2016-17 Season

They talked about how Yuzuru can have off days but when he is on, no one can beat him, that he has a style all of his own and a strong personality. That his fans revere him. Paul Dore loved Yuzuru's face after he finished his FS. And PJ mentioned that he had this expression in his face when he skated at 4CC that said 'wait, this is my town', a look of ownership. [Edit: And he had the same look before the FS at Worlds] And PJ mentioned that when Yuzuru came out of his FS he draped himself over her and was feeling very excited, even though no one knew then what the results would eventually be. And that everyone wants to mother him!

They also talked about the Japanese crowds who really went crazy for Yuzuru after his SP, and that the entire audience threw flowers at him and every single one of the flower kids had to go on the ice to pick everything up. And Paul Bore was amused that the first thing Yuzuru said after his FS at Worlds was that he needed to train harder and admired how humble and hardworking he is, even if he was kind of laughing in disbelief at this.

It reminds me about one of the commentator for yuzuru FS at world's 2012 (from cbc I think? Forget who..) She said that 'when yuzuru is on his jumps are sensational when he's off his falls are spectacular'

It was Tracy, before he came to them

That was Mama Tracy lol

It seems that many skaters confirmed already their participation in FaOI 2017.

There are already many from this to be honest (from the website)
Men : Oda, Javi, Plushy, Buttle, Lambiel, Deniss, Elladj, Weir
Ladies : Arakawa, Akiko, Miki, Marin, Rika, Kaori, Mai

Arakawa+Plushy+Miki are already headliner material imo, these casts are more headliner material than last season (with no Yuzu cast). As if they are gearing up/preparing if Yuzuru might really not go. (The attendance was not great last year iirc, there was even an article about it)

If until late April Yuzu does not confirm his attendance, I am inclined to think he will not attend, because if he intends to, he probably would have said yes by then (it is necessary for PR and ticket sales too, actually. There is not really any reason for FaOI organizer to delay the announcement for his participation if he has already agreed to it). I remember someone on GS here told me last year when we were still waiting in agony for Yuzu's participation in FaOI; the person said "I don't think he's going and that FaOI delayed the announcement for suspense. If he goes they would have already screamed it on the top of their lungs on a rooftop". Granted, last year he was unsure until the very last minute if he would attend, but eventually he did not go to any.

Yep, Tracy Wilson, back when Yuzuru was just that kid with the Pooh and the spectacular falls.

I can't believe it is his 6th year in Canada already... He moved at this time , It was April if I remember correctly. Since then Brian got old and chubby and his hair is thinner and thinner each year.

I don't think they would write something like X show has invited A person without some insider's information. Of course invitation is invitation and there is no guarantee that the person invited will agree. But this is not so different from pressuring Yuzuru from the outside media for Yuzuru to attend the show.
If this leaking is true, then they're too insensible since it's the summer before Olympic year. He needs time to prepare for the difficult and very long, stressful season. I do hope Yuzuru will put them aside and know where his top priorities are. He can do tons of shows after Olympic. Hopefully he knows he should refuse them this time.

Like sweetwater mentioned it's Nikkan which has never been nice to Yuzuru, to put it mildly.

Recently I rewatched 2012 Worlds and it struck me that Brian looked a lot younger and thinner then, with completely dark hair. It has been only 6 years :scratch2:.

Can't believe now he has to bring Pooh-san around when yuzu practicing.. It always amusing to see Brian holding Pooh-san :laugh2:

I absolutely love Brian carrying around Pooh. Who else among the top coaches could have done it? :p He never once complained!

He really looked much younger before Vancouver 2010 and then in the Olympic season he started to look older. No wonder though... with all the hard work, travelling and stress.

I think he did once, but it was very early on. I feel like in the K&C Yuzu gave him Pooh to hold and Brian was like "c'mon" or something.

I don’t know if it’s true or not, but I’ve seen so many baseless articles regarding/mentioning him after he became famous. I get wary when I find a sentence begins with “関係者によると (means “according to the people familiar with the matter” in Japanese)” which doesn’t specify the people’s name. It is possible for an organizer of an ice show to put pressure on a skater using the media to participate their show, but it is also possible for a media to write a baseless article mentioning famous person just to sell their newspaper/magazine or to earn some page views on internet.

Regarding show information in general, I think waiting for an official confirmation is the best to avoid troubles for us fans and for him. Last year many people bought tickets of Fantasy on ice in case he might be able to participate, and it must have been a huge pressure on him (although it is almost impossible to buy a ticket after official confirmation…)

any thoughts on the reporters/papers that are generally not yuzu-friendly, so we can be aware?

Well Eteri does it for Zhenya now
But there is nothing more amusing than looking back on how Brian was so reluctant of carrying Pooh around when he first starter coaching Yuzu and now he even looks after him at the Galas!
Well Pooh has proven to be a very reliable co-coach if you ask me ;)

I remembered some Nagoya reporters and Kansai reporters were not really nice when it comes to writing articles about him. Their words of choices are just... well... it could be taken the wrong way. :)
I often rolled my eyes reading the trans. There is one that is quite infamous for disliking Yuzu and trying to put him in a bad light I think. Can't remember the name.
