Thank you, that's very interesting. I've seen only negative articles from Nikkan so far. How is Kengo Abe written in Japanese? I will try to find and read his/her opinion on Yuzu.

阿部健吾
He seems to have moved to other sports, but had been writing about figure skating since 2011-2012 season till recently. Many of his articles ended with positive/supportive note even when the result was not good. I still have a scrap of this article he wrote after Worlds 2013.

Here you go, full translation. Polish commentary WC 2017 LP
PB - Przemysław Babiarz *likes to babble*
PS - Piotr Sobczyński *the focused one with some knowledge*
*any reference to butter - it means it's really easy*

PS - (You say) Yuzuru Hanyu will skate brilliantly, but he's skating first, Fernandez is going to skate last.
PB - And as we watch the six of them, only Fernandez is an European from birth, the rest of the contestants have Asian roots.
PB - Yuzuru Hanyu makes an Orthodox cross-sign. :palmf:
PB - And we spoke about Brian Orser coaching both Yuzuru Hanyu and Fernandez, so Orser's pupil will start and Orser's pupil will end the group. It seems that Orser will be the coach of World's Champion, the only question is who will it be?
(Yuzu starts)
PS - 4Lo with strong accent.
PS - 4S, goes like butter.
PB - 3F, thats second part of program? Oh, not yet.
PS - Now we have second part.
PS - In that second part we have 4S with 3T in combination.
PB - Take a look how much the score will go up.
PS - Nearly 20 points.
PS - One more quad, toeloop.
PB - Third different jump, we had Loop, Salchow and now Toeloop.
PB - 3A2T with arms up, looks like bread and butter compared to the quads and yet it's an Axel...
PB - One more 3A in triple-combination ending with 3S.
PS - 3Lz at the end.
(Yuzu ends)
PB - Madness, you're watching new world record for sure. It has to happen, because for TES he got around 125 points, adding Components to that his score must be over 220 and the record is currently 219.48.
PS - Regarding FS, and the world record for overall score is around 330.
PB - 330.43. He did everything he could, he set the bar so high and it's also a kind of pressure put on his colligue, Spaniard Fernandez, who will be closing this group. The point loss Yuzuru Hanyu had, the nearly 11 points, may be non-existent. Fernandez has to skate clean if he wants to win, has to hit the absolute peak of his abilities. Now the 11 points of loss no longer matter with that kind of performance.
PS - I wonder if Fernandez saw that or did he plugged his ears and hid in dark room.
PB - His (Yuzu's) form definietly fluctuated, he won GPF and Frenandez didn't do so well, on European Champs - he obviously couldn't be there and Fernandez won, on 4CC Fernandez, sorry, Yuzuru Hanyu lost to this amazing Nathan Chen from USA, here he made a mistake in SP and he's fifth. An suddenly he mobilizes himself to do a FS worthy an Olympic Champion he is. We had a record at Medvedeva's skate in Female solo's as well. He's just out of scale... he did everything so nicely...
PS - At 4T we just saw during recap, he got GOE +2.5 which means it was very close to perfection.
(K&C)
PB - Add Components to that.
PS - Same with 4S3T combination, there was +2.43 GOE added to the base value.
PB - If the Components will be above 9.5, he has to get more than 220 points and a record has to happen, as we said before. It's not settled yet, the cards are still covered for this few seconds.
PS - That was a fenomenal opening of the group full of pretenders (for the gold).
PB - Sometimes opening like that settles everything.
PS - And sometimes it's more of a challenge.
PB - Thats true.
PS - He beats world record and says "I'm waiting for the offers" *He means Yuzu's like a boss & waits for someone to challenge him*
PB - 223.20!
PS - Who's going to beat that!
PB - 223.20 points, he beats his record by 4 points. No one ever got such high mark for FS.
PS - 320 in total and there is space for more.
PB - Well, he didn't do well in SP. The world record for overal score belongs to him, will the 320 be enough for gold? He did absolutely everything he could to get the gold, now he can only wait.
PB - Kolyada shocked and clapping... and obviously Reynolds as well.
PS - What will Nathan Chen say to that? USA Champion, won with Yuzuru Hanyu at 4CC, is he able to win now?

Thank you so much! I red only recent articles, since 2015 or so.

I really love his perfectionism and extraness.

I have to confess, for years I only tolerated his costumes. I wished they were simpler. A switch flipped for me this year, and I realized figure skating costumes should be as extra as possible. Sparkle looks amaaazing in person. I love what the Fug Girls are calling the shoulder floof/handkerchief on holiday. It looks like seafoam at the crest of a wave.

Odd, from the start i thought that the costumes looked amazing on him, i always thought that only Yuzu can wear that  Probably because i like ruffles, ombre and sparkles too

well.. my taste in costumes is always extra due to my tradition and influenced by the upbringing of mostly female household of mine. I am a big fan of nearly all of his costumes.

the functioning of the shoulder floof thing in H&L during jumps is incredibly amazing to me. it is just beautiful. too bad for the people who can't see its beauty. :)

I plan to be at ACI again this year if he goes, it's in the same place as last year so it'll be nice and familiar for him. Thinking back on it now, I had the privilege of seeing him unveil both programs for the first time, and land the first ratified quad loop. Then I got to watch him in Helsinki too and see the journey this season from start to finish (well there's WTT, but that's more of an afterthought). His improvement across the season been remarkable. It started with this run-through of H&L in Montreal, he had skipped some of the choreography and spins, but landed all the jumps only to single his good friend 3Lz. Thinking back on it now, it was like a tiny preview of what was to come.

It's never too early! Stand ready!
Hello there! :handw:
You killed me ! [emoji7] Can't wait to get home and rewatch the SP.

Great! Not only were his landings successful this time, but his jumps look higher this year.

I haven't watched that FS either. But yesterday I rewatched the SP and EX. Those performances were so intense, but part of that was desperation and pain. Glad it's in the past.

I also rewatched GPF Seimei. That was such an intense love for me, and represented perfection at the time. It's surprising to me how much better he is now. A bigger difference than the points suggest ;)

Let the young guns come. His improvement isn't over.
I watched Boston FS only one time during the competition and never returned. But I keep rewatching the SP (the best Chopin for me) and the EX, trying hard not to think about the result. For me Requiem is still a prequel to H&L although they tell different stories.

It's the best description of the white ruffle I have ever heard! I had my doubts about this part of H&L costume, but now it totally makes sense.
And yes, sparkles are much better in person.
