Nathan Chen | Page 30 | Golden Skate

Nathan Chen

Well the red coat didn't help too much in the freeskate... I guess people would grab the opportunity to call him lazy artistically, if he keeps his programs which might be why he wants to change a bit. But he needs to keep the ballet theme. Those arms are dreamy.

Agree, while the red coat is grand and goes well with "Polovtsian Dance" Nathan skates to, it does not do justice to his dancing skills. Too much golden deco is a distraction. Nathan's body move is expressive, and his arms tell stories. But with that golden ring on his upper arms, audience only see him swing arms around.. :(

About Chinese names, as I understand, same pronunciation can trace to different characters? Patrick said it himself here: https://www.instagram.com/p/BLT28jRhZ2V/?taken-by=pchan31&hl=en :)

I believe Patrick was joking. Karen, Nathan and Patrick all have the same Chinese surname. The spelling and pronunciation are different due to the dialects they (or their parents) speak and where their parents come from, but the character of their surname is the same. (Chen is a very common Chinese surname.) Patrick's parents come from Hong Kong. Karen's parents come from Taiwan and Nathan's parents come from Mainland China. Chinese fans call them the Chen family siblings, (in the order of their age: Tiffany Chin, Patrick Chan, Nathan Chen and Karen Chen).

Nathan appears to becoming very popular in Japan. There was a noticeable uptick in the number of his Japanese Twitter fans after Worlds even though he only placed 6th.

Is he more popular in Japan than in the USA?

They can but in this case Patrick and Nathan do share the same Chinese surname.

Here are Patrick's, Nathan's, and Karen's full names in Chinese with their surnames in bold.

偉群 Patrick Chan
巍 Nathan Chen
楷雯 Karen Chen

Thank you sheetz and gsyzf for clarifying it, these characters sure do look the same!:)

It appears Nathan has agreed to the polar bear onesie!

Now Japanese fans are debating what he should wear at the Dreams On Ice show. Some want him in the polar bear onesie, while others want him in a yukata style kimono that has been traditional for the show. Still others want him in a "gakuran" boys' school uniform. I think Nathan has become the Japanese fans' new plaything!

I have to confess, I'm a little surprised at the instant fandom - I thought the Japanese fans might not like this latest threat to their two superstars! Nathan definitely does have a lot of personality though. I'm sure he will win a lot of people's hearts!...I vote for a kimono. Those look really cool!
