Yuzuru Hanyu: 2016-17 Season

Go clean and risk a BV over 10 points lower than, say, Nathan Chen? Who can also go clean with all his six quads, in a reasonable level of clean? What if Shoma adds a new quad too? There's not much GOE and PCS differentiation going on either lately. These are all big questions that Yuzuru needs to consider and yes, adding a 4Lz at least in his FS, even if he keeps a 4-quad program, will make a difference in his BV. We'll have to see if Yuzuru/Brian will share in this belief as well.

Plus, didn't he recently say in answer to (I'm paraphrasing) 'what do you do once you reach the full potential of your programs?' that the only solution was to go higher? 4Lz or bust, Yuzu!

He wanted to try 5 even at wc but did not have enough energy. 5 quad LP is a given for next season I am not even questioning if he will bring lz and do a 4 quad LP, 4 quads is finished case. I just think that he will use off season to make it stable and I feel they don't want to reveal their weapons early, before season start.

100% agree. If he brings 4Lz it will be for 5 quad LP.

ETA He already skated perfect 4 quad LP. One more reason to go further.

Oh yes, that is certainly very probable but honestly, I don't think anyone is going to be surprised by the 4Lz. I think they all know it's coming

I think the one true question mark in their heads is the 4A. Now that the word leaked he has done it, they've got to be wondering. It doesn't matter that realistically they know it's unlikely, but that niggle of doubt still remains. So I'm sure we won't see the 4A at all in public, until its ready, for maximum effect. And all the talk will do its work on its own.

Frankly, I have never questioned his ability to understand , analyse situation and do what is needed to win. He is the smart sportsmen with deep understanding of sport and entire system, one of the rarest I have seen watching this sport for decades, so I am not afraid and I don't question anything. I am sure he has analysed whole situation after Helsinki billion times already .Quad lz or quad axel, 5 quads or 6 quads he will try his best to his up his tes as much as it is possible for him. 18 years old Yuzu already knew what he needed to win in Sochi, 21 Years old Yuzuru knew that adding 4th quad was a good thing, even coach was against. So I am honestly not thinking about it. What I know is Yuzuru will bring whatever he needs and will bring it with better quality than others, if his physical state is satisfactory.

edit: and he already wanted 3 quad LP after Olympics, alas , loads of unfortunate events made him stop for one season.

7. Laurine skates her beautiful SP to its full potential, and therefore decides to keep it next year

Yeah, you guys are probably right. If 4Lz does come to play, it'll most likely be with 5-quads.

I'm ready to start biting all my nails off next season but for now we can relax a little. It's WTT time! Which I won't be able to watch live most likely (on Thursday I'll be out for work and on Friday I'll probably be very busy AT work. That leaves the weekend but Tokyo being 8 hours ahead of me puts everything in the very early to early morning for me and I'm not sure I care enough for the ladies at WTT to wake up too early on a Saturday. I will try to catch the gala on Sunday, though.

1. Perfect SP, so we will have a new one next season (please!!!)

Because he seemed to imply he hadn't enough stamina yet for a 5 quads program with the quality he wants. He won't do something he's not physically able to do...
and, as was proven some pages ago, a 4 quad layout with the Lutz is still a very good way to notably improve his BV and increase his improvisations possibilities in case of a botched combo. I think it's the best compromise, really, to improve both BV and consistency.

And he was in perfect condition and had a day of rest after SP. I really think 4 quad program with 4Lz is the best option. With 5 quad program he will have one double jump (3A-2T) unless he will do -3lo combination. It won't increase his BV that much. But on the other hand 4S-3T in the second half of the program also doesn't increase his BV that much...

Why do a riskier 5-quads layout when he can have almost the same BV with a much safer 4 quads layout ?
And have you ever seen Yuzu downgrading his layout ?
Starting with 4 quads and then upgrading to 5 is much more Yuzu than tarting with 5 and then downgrading to 4

Easier layout doesn't guarantee clean skate. Look at what happened to Javi.
