Yuna Kim

Olympic Flame for PyeongChang 2018 Starts Journey on October 24

Yuna Kim, PyeongChang 2018 Honorary Ambassador, also shared her experience as a torchbearer for Torino 2006 and Vancouver 2010 and mentioned, “It was a great honor to carry the Olympic torch for Torino 2006 and Vancouver 2010. It motivated me to work even harder towards winning a gold medal at the Olympic Winter Games. I am also excited and honored to take part in lighting the flame in Olympia Greece on October 24. I hope that many people can be a part of the PyeongChang 2018 Olympic Torch Relay and create a lifelong memory.”

So pretty! Love this shade of yellow on her

I am furious right now. a couple of People (the number is small but the loudest noice on this board) is trying to glorify/justify Sot's Sochi result again on this thread.
Actually, tech controllers/judges are significant biased towards Sots not only in stsq levels, edge calls and under-rotations (let us not mention PCS and GOE), but also in spin levels(yes, Sot has questionable spin levels)!!
I will elaborate on that when I got more time. this is just a reminder/place holder post for me.

There will always be those people who try to defend her. I don't think it is necessary to care about it. There are thousands of people who think the opposite. And what's more important, Yuna has a legendary status, and no one can take away that from her.

it seems like Yuna will be the first torch carrier not the one who light the torch.

Yes, she will be the first torch carrier, it will be on 24th October.
We don't know who will light the torch, but I am sure Yuna has a good chance to do it (or at least she will be one of the torch bearers in the arena during the opening ceremony).

Thank you so much. I like Yuzuru in all-back and doing elements like this

KOC and KSU whatever they’re just using Yuna to make the best use of promoting Pyeongchang. It’s already proven there was a blacklist for some people who work for culture and art. It’s a fact. In Korea the South Korean Ministry of Culture, Sports and Tourism is also dealing with sports. I think there is a blacklist for sports people. It’s very likely Yuna is also included for this list. Some media and people are very cautious about this because Pyeongchang is just one year away. Yuna refused to participate in Conservative Party Event. I heard Yuna was fingered as someone to watch. Even though President Park and the ministry is in jail now, people who work for them still hold a high position.

Considering a trip to South Korea this June... I'm not sure if I'll have time but does anyone know if Yuna will be skating at the ATS show then?

Infinity Challenge episode with Yuna is out with English subtitles. Yuna's segment starts at ~01:10:00, it's only 10 minutes but still it was nice interview. They mentioned Dabin and how Yuna helps Korean skaters :luv17: http://kshowonline.com/kshow/6710-[engsub]-infinity-challenge-ep.526

Thank you for the link. Yuna told it is highly commendable that Dabin took part alone and get two tickets for Korea. She also said she is helping young skaters in practicing their choreography. Yang se hyung is a very funny and smart comedian in Korea. He has lots of experiences in interviewing many people including politicians. He is not afraid of asking persistently in a very funny way. It’s a good interview and very entertaining.

What? She must light the torch!

I hope the country riots if she doesn't get to light the torch, seriously. I know that there are other important winter athletes in Korea but she was involved from day one in the bid for the Games and she always gave her support to the project. I really hope they make a considerate choice!

Thank you for posting this :thank: It's so good to see Yuna smiling and laughing so much, we don't see her in this way too much, do we? I hope to see her in similar shows like this.

I liked that she said nice words about Dabin and that she's proud of her. I can also see Yuna's influence in her or other Korean youngers' skating style, like the good flow over the ice, good height, distance of jumps, running edges, good use of arm-,and body movements, etc. I am sure she helps them as much as she can.

Who the hell do they have if not Yuna???

Literally, someone try to come up with one relevant name who made as big an impact on their sport as Yuna did in her's...someone who did not defect to another country like say, Russia for example.

The torch lighters are usually selected from the most successful athletes of the host country. In South Korea, these athletes have won the most Olympic gold medals at the Winter Olympic Games:

Chun Lee-kyung (short track, 4 gold medals from 3 Olympics),
Jin Sun-yu (short track, 3 gold medals from 1 Olympic Games),
Kim Ki-hoon (short track, 3 gold medals from 2 Olympics)
Lee Sang-hwa (speed skating, 2 gold medals from 2 Olympics)

(I don't count Victor Ahn now because of the known reasons)

However I don't think any other athlete had such a huge impact on her/his sport than Yuna had on figure skating - both in Korea and on the international level. Plus she's been an ambassador of PyeongChang since 2011, not to mention that she was one of the factors why PC was selected as the host country for the 2018 Winter Olympic Games. Also since 2011 she put enormous work into the organizing of the event. So yes, I don't see a reason why she would not be the chosen one :)
